Looking at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you can say that the franchise has definitely evolved from the very first AC game. Now Ubisoft is said to be returning back to basics with the next title.
According to j0nathan from Youtube (via GameSpot) the next Assassin’s Creed game will be titled Assassin’s Creed Mirage and will take place in Baghdad in the ‘800s. Here’s the post:
From ‘return to basics,’, I think we can assume that Mirage will focus on a more tightly structured narrative that will not be too open to player customization and collecting. Since the series also doesn’t have any leveling, we can probably say goodbye to the more convoluted skill trees and ability unlocks that have become a mainstay in the current AC games.
This should come as good news for some fans of the original. Though the newer games have been getting good reviews, a lot of critics have claimed that the over-expansive worlds have become too overwhelming, and that each collectible has kind of lost significance because of the huge variety. I, for one, am eager for a smaller-scale AC game that focuses on a tight storyline with some memorable characters and a reasonably-sized map.
With the story set in Baghdad though, I wonder how many people will be comparing the game to Prince of Persia, a franchise that was gearing up for a comeback, but has been significantly delayed. Who knows, maybe we can eventually see a clash of the two IPs next year (if PoP manages to release, that is).
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is expected to release sometime in 2023.
