In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the player can do many things throughout its main storyline. These include finding and defeating the newly-surfaced Titan Pokemon, defeating the mysterious Team Star, beating all the Gym Leaders in the region, competing in the Pokemon League to become the Champion and become the very best like no one ever was, and completing the Paldea region’s Pokedex by catching all Pokemon.
Even after accomplishing these and watching the end credits, there are still plenty of things for the player to do. These options include challenging the Gym Leaders, former Team Star members, and bosses to a rematch. One noteworthy event worth participating in is the Academy Ace Tournament.
This guide will teach you how to defeat Top Champion Geeta in the Academy Ace Tournament!
The Academy Ace Tournament
To commemorate the player’s triumph of becoming a Paldea region Champion, Nemona and the Pokemon League have organized the Academy Ace Tournament. However, Top Champion Geeta requests the player’s help before participating in the tournament. She needs the player to challenge all the Pokemon Gym Leaders in the region again to verify their capabilities. The Academy Ace Tournament will only commence after the player defeats all Gym Leaders in the region once more.
The Academy Ace Tournament consists of four back-to-back battles against fellow Pokemon Trainers, either faculty members or students of the academy. The player must win all four battles to earn the title of academy ace and become the ultimate champion. To enter the tournament, the player must speak to the staff member dressed in blue. They can be found next to a Gengar in the Entrance Hall of the Academy in Mesagoza.
On the first attempt at the Academy Ace Tournament, the player faces a predetermined group of Trainers: Arven, Jacq, Dendra, and Top Champion Geeta. However, in subsequent attempts, four different Trainers will be randomly selected from a pool of Trainers. The pool includes Arven, Jacq, Dendra, Hassel, Tyme, Miriam, Raifort, Saguaro, Salvatore, Penny, Director Clavell, and Nemona.
While competing in the Academy Ace Tournament, the player cannot change the Pokemon in their party once the tournament has begun. Nevertheless, the player’s Pokemon will be fully healed, and the player’s Tera Orb will be recharged after each round.
Rewards
Winning all four rounds of the Academy Ace Tournament on the first try offers not only money and EXP points but also unlocks a Sporty Cap (Pokemon League) and grants the player access to 6-Star Tera Raids (if the player has finished at least ten 4-Star Tera Raid battles).
After the first victory, the player will receive a random prize for each subsequent win of the entire tournament. The player may be awarded up to 10 Rare Candies, a maximum of three Nuggets, one Big Nugget, up to three PP Ups, a PP Max, three random Vitamins, three random Tera Shards, a rare Apriball (a Beast Ball, a Dream Ball, a Fast Ball, a Friend Ball, a Level Ball, a Lure Ball, or a Moon Ball), a random nature Mint, a Bottle Cap, a Gold Bottle Cap, or a very rare Ability Patch.
Top Champion Geeta
Prepare for an exciting battle with the Chairwoman of the Pokemon League, Top Champion Geeta, as she faces the player once again in the ultimate and concluding stage of the player’s initial try in the Academy Ace Tournament!
Top Champion Geeta does not have a type specialty. She will use six Pokemon: a Level 69 Espathra, a Level 69 Gogoat, a Level 69 Veluza, a Level 69 Avalugg, a Level 69 Kingambit, and a Level 70 Glimmora.
Geeta’s Espathra
Espathra is a Psychic type Pokemon which means that it is weak (super effective) to Bug-type, Dark-type, and Ghost-type moves and resistant (not very effective) to Fighting-type and Psychic-type moves.
Top Champion Geeta’s Espathra will use the following moves:
- Lumina Crash is a special Psychic-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. Alongside causing damage, it lowers the Special Defense stat of the opposing Pokemon by two stages.
- Dazzling Gleam is a special Fairy-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy.
- Reflect is a Psychic-type status move that decreases the damage from physical attacks to its side for five turns.
- Quick Attack is a physical Normal-type move with 40 Power and 100 Accuracy. It has a Speed priority of 1, allowing it to go faster than most.
Geeta’s Gogoat
Gogoat is a Grass-type Pokemon which means that it is weak (super effective) to the Bug-type, Flying-type, Fire-type, Ice-type, and Poison-type moves and resistant (not very effective) to Electric-type, Grass-type, Ground-type, and Water-type moves.
Top Champion Geeta’s Gogoat will use the following moves:

- Play Rough is a physical Fairy-type move with 90 Power and 90 Accuracy. Alongside dealing damage, it has a 10% chance of lowering the Attack stat of the opposing Pokemon by one stage.
- Bulk Up is a Fighting-type status move that raises the Attack and Defense stats of the Pokemon using the move by one stage.
Geeta’s Veluza
Veluza is a Psychic and Water-type Pokemon which means it is weak (super effective) to Bug-type, Dark-type, Electric-type, Ghost-type, and Grass-type moves and resistant (not very effective) to Fighting-type, Fire-type, Ice-type, Psychic-type, Steel-type, and Water-type moves.
Top Champion Geeta’s Veluza will use the following moves:
- Aqua Jet is a physical Water-type move with 40 Power and 100 Accuracy. It has a Speed priority of 1, allowing it to go faster than most.
- Liquidation is a physical Water-type move with 85 Power and 100 Accuracy. Alongside dealing damage, it has a 20% chance of lowering the Defense stat of the opposing Pokemon by one stage.
- Psycho Cut is a physical Psychic-type move with 70 Power and 100 Accuracy with a 1-stage increased Critical Hit ratio.
- Ice Fang is a physical Ice-type move with 65 Power and 100 Accuracy. Alongside dealing damage, it has a 10% chance of freezing or flinching the opposing Pokemon.
Aside from that, Top Champion Geeta’s Veluza has the Mold Breaker Ability that allows the Pokemon to use moves without being affected by the opposing Pokemon’s Ability.
Geeta’s Avalugg
Avalugg is an Ice-type Pokemon which means it is weak (super effective) to Fighting-type, Fire-type, Rock-type, and Steel-type moves and resistant (not very effective) to Ice-type moves.
Top Champion Geeta’s Avalugg will use the following moves:
- Avalanche is a physical Ice-type move with 60 Power and 100 Accuracy. It deals twice the damage if the opposing Pokemon received damage in the same turn.
- Crunch is a physical Dark-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. Alongside dealing damage, it has a 20% chance of lowering the opposing Pokemon’s Defense stat by one stage.
- Earthquake is a physical Ground-type move with 100 Power and 100 Accuracy that hits all Pokemon on the field. If a Pokemon is in the middle of the move Dig, it takes double damage.
- Body Press is a physical Fighting-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy where the amount of damage dealt is based on the Pokemon’s Defense stat instead of the Attack stat.
Geeta’s Kingambit
Kingambit is a Steel and Dark-type Pokemon which means that it is weak (super effective) to Ground-type, Fire-type, and especially Fighting-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Dark-type, Dragon-type, Flying-type, Ghost-type, Grass-type, Ice-type, Normal-type, Rock-type, and Steel-type move, and immunity (no effect) to Poison type and Psychic-type moves.
Top Champion Geeta’s Kingambit will use the following moves:
- Iron Head is a physical Steel-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. Alongside dealing damage, it has a 30% chance of causing the opposing Pokemon to flinch.
- Zen Headbutt is a physical Psychic-type move with 80 Power and 90 Accuracy. Alongside dealing damage, it has a 20% chance of causing the target Pokemon to flinch.
- Kowtow Cleave is a physical Dark-type move with 85 Power that never misses.
- Stone Edge is a physical Rock-type move with 100 Power and 80 Accuracy. Alongside dealing damage, it raises the Critical Hit ratio by one stage.
Aside from that, Top Champion Geeta’s Kingambit has the Supreme Overlord Ability that boosts the Pokemon with the Ability’s Attack and Special Attack stat by 10% for each fainted Pokemon in its party.
Geeta’s Glimmora
Glimmora is a Poison and Rock-type Pokemon, but Top Champion Geeta will terastallize Glimmora. It will then change into a pure Rock-type because of its Tera type. Hence, it is weak (super effective) to Fighting-type, Grass-type, Ground-type, Steel-type, and Water-type and resistant (not very effective) to Flying-type, Fire-type, Normal-type, and Poison-type.
Top Champion Geeta’s Glimmora will use the following moves:
- Tera Blast is a special Normal-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. When used while the Pokemon using the move is Terastallized, it changes the moves type to the Pokemon’s Tera Type. It will become a physical move if the Pokemon’s Attack exceeds its Special Attack.
- Sludge Wave is a special Poison-type move with 95 Power and 100 Accuracy. Alongside causing damage, it has a 10% chance of inflicting Poison on the opposing Pokemon.

- Dazzling Gleam is a special Fairy-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy.
Aside from that, Top Champion Geeta’s Glimmora has the Toxic Debris Ability. When hit by a physical move, the Pokemon with the Ability will scatter Toxic Spikes on the opposing side’s field. However, the effect of this Ability can only be activated a maximum of two times.
Tips
Because Top Champion Geeta’s Pokemon are Level 69 to 70, it is recommended that the player use Pokemon that are Level 63 and higher with Bug-type and Fighting-type moves as Bug-type moves deal super effective damage to Top Champion Geeta’s Espathra, Veluza, and Gogoat and Fighting-type moves deal super effective damage to Top Champion Geeta’s Avalugg, Glimmora, and especially Kingambit.
The player should watch out for Top Champion Geeta’s Kingambit because it has the Supreme Overlord Ability. Supreme Overlord boosts the Pokemon’s Attack and Special Attack stat by one stage for each previously defeated Pokemon.
Because of that, it is advised to beat Top Champion Geeta’s Kingambit before it can improve its stats. With that in mind, it is worth mentioning again that Kingambit is weak against Ground, Fire, and especially Fighting-type moves.
After defeating Top Champion Geeta, the player won the Academy Ace Tournament and was declared the academy’s ace! The player will also be rewarded the Sporty Cap (Pokemon League) and can access 6-Star Tera Raids!
