Learn everything that you need to know about Rika from the Elite Four in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet!
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is an open-world game in which the player assumes the role of a transferee in a huge Paldea region school.
The player is the only one who may decide what to do in the game: dismantle the villainous Team Star, complete the Pokedex and catch them all, find the enigmatic new Titan Pokemon, or defeat all of the Pokemon Gyms, become champion, and become the best like no one ever was!
Near the end of the Victory Road questline, the player will attempt to become the Champion by entering the Pokemon League, where the player will have to battle and defeat the Elite Four and the Top Champion, Geeta. In this guide, you will learn how to defeat the first member of the Elite Four, Rika in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet!
Location
Rika and the other members of the Elite Four can be found in the Pokemon League, which is northwest of Mesagoza (or southwest of the Great Crater of Paldea) in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet.
The Pokemon League can be accessed by heading to Mesagoza, on the southern edge of the Great Crater of Paldea. Head to the northwest from the Mesagoza (West) Pokemon Center, go up the stairs beside the sandwich shop, enter the cave with a gate, and follow the path to the northwest; then, the player will find the Pokemon League building and a Pokemon Center.
Before attempting to battle Rika and the Elite Four in the Pokemon League, the player must first defeat all eight Pokemon Gyms scattered throughout the Paldea Region and obtain their Gym Badges.
After defeating all of the Pokemon Gyms, proceed to the Pokemon League. As you approach the entrance of the Pokemon League building, a cutscene will play in which Champion Geeta is standing near the entrance and informs the player that the Pokemon League is the final test the player must pass to become a Champion, will take place in the building.
Once ready, approach the Pokemon League Staff in front of the entryway, who will inquire if the player is ready to face the Pokemon League’s Champion Assessment.
Select ‘Yes’ on the prompt, and the Pokemon League Staff will check to see if the player has gathered all eight Gym Badges from the Pokemon Gym Leaders throughout the Paldea region.
If so, the Pokemon League Staff will admit the player inside the building.
Before the player can start battling against the Elite Four in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, Rika will ask the player a bunch of questions to answer correctly to continue.
After answering the questions correctly, select the Pokemon you want to use against all of the Elite Four, stack up on healing items, and then, once ready, head to the door just behind Rika, where the player will now face the Elite Four starting with Rika herself!
Elite Four: Rika
Rika, the first member of the Elite Four, will be using five Ground-type Pokemon: a Level 57 Whiscash, a Level 57 Donphan, a Level 57 Dugtrio, a Level 57 Camerupt, and a Level 58 Clodsire.
Whiscash
Whiscash is a Ground and Water-type Pokemon, which means it is weak (super effective) to Grass-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Fire-type, Poison-type, Rock-type, and Steel-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Electric-type moves.
Rika’s Whiscash will be using the following moves:
- Muddy Water is a Water-type special move with 90 power and 85 accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has a 30% chance of lowering the opposing Pokemon’s accuracy by one stage.
- Earth Power is a special Ground-type move with 90 power and 100 accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has a 10% chance of decreasing the special defense stat of the enemy Pokemon by one stage.
- Blizzard is a special Ice-type move with 110 Power and 70 Accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has a 10% chance of freezing the enemy Pokemon and enhanced accuracy when used during a snowstorm.
- Future Sight is a Psychic-type special move with 120 power and 100 accuracy that will hit the target Pokemon two turns after it is used.
Donphan
Donphan is a Ground-type Pokemon, which means it is weak (super effective) to Grass-type, Ice-type, and Water-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Poison-type and Rock-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Electric-type moves.
Rika’s Donphan will be using the following moves:
- Poison Jab is a Poison-type physical move with 80 power and 100 accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has a 30% chance of poisoning the opposing Pokemon.
- Iron Head is a Steel-type physical move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy that, in addition to dealing damage, has a 30% chance of making the opposing Pokemon flinch.
- Earthquake is a physical Ground-type move with 100 Power and 100 Accuracy that will hit all Pokemon on the battlefield and even double the damage if a Pokemon uses Dig.
- Stone Edge is a physical Rock-type move with 100 Power and 80 Accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has increased the Critical Hit ratio by one stage.
Dugtrio
Dugtrio is also a Ground-type Pokemon, meaning it is weak (super effective) to Grass-type, Ice-type, and Water-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Poison-type and Rock-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Electric-type moves.
Rika’s Dugtrio will be using the following moves:
- Sucker Punch is a physical Dark-type move with 70 power and 100 accuracies that can only hurt the opposing Pokemon if it is about to perform a damaging move.
- Rock Slide is a physical Rock-type move with 75 Power and 90 Accuracy that, in addition to delivering damage, has a 30% chance of making the enemy Pokemon flinch.
- Earthquake is a physical Ground-type move with 100 Power and 100 Accuracy that will hit all Pokemon on the battlefield and even double the damage if a Pokemon uses Dig.
- Sandstorm is a Rock-type status move that causes a sandstorm for five turns.
Camerupt
Camerupt is a Ground and Fire-type Pokemon. Hence, it is weak (super effective) to Ground-type and especially Water-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to the Bug-type, Fairy-type, Fire-type, Poison-type, and Steel-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Electric-type moves.
Rika’s Camerupt will be using the following moves:
- Flash Cannon is a Steel-type special move with 80 power and 100 accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has a 10% chance of decreasing the opposing Pokemon’s special defense stat by one level.
- Earth Power is a special Ground-type move with 90 power and 100 accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has a 10% chance of decreasing the special defense stat of the enemy Pokemon by one stage.
- Fire Blast is a special Fire-type move with 110 power and 85 accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has a 10% chance of burning the opposing Pokemon.
Clodsire
Clodsire is a Ground and Poison type Pokemon. Still, Rika will terastallize Clodsire, which will change it into a pure Ground-type because of its Tera type, so it will be weak (super effective) to Grass-type, Ice-type, and Water-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Poison-type and Rock-type moves, and immune (no effect) to Electric-type moves.
Rika’s Clodsire will be using the following moves:
- Liquidation is a physical Water-type move with 85 Power and 100 Accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has a 20% chance of lowering the opposing Pokemon’s Defense stat by one stage.
- Toxic is a Poison-type status move with 90 Accuracy that poisons the opposing Pokemon.
- Earthquake is a physical Ground type move with 100 Power and 100 Accuracy that will hit all Pokemon on the battlefield and even double the damage if a Pokemon uses Dig.
- Protect is a Normal type status move that shields the Pokemon from attacks except for a few specific actions.
Aside from its moves, Rika’s Clodsire has an Ability called Water Absorb, which allows the Pokemon, who can, instead of receiving damage when hit with Water-type moves, restore up to 25% of its maximum HP. Because of this, it would be better to attack Rika’s Clodsire using Grass-type or Ice-type moves.
Tips
Because Rika’s Pokemon range from Level 57 to 58, it is recommended that the player use Pokemon that are Level 59 and higher.
It is advised that the player’s Pokemon have Water and Ice-type moves to comfortably defeat Rika and her Pokemon, as almost all of Rika’s Pokemon are weak against these moves. Rika, however, will counter these with Fire-type and Steel-type moves from Donphan and Camerupt.
Pokemon like Gyarados can be great to use against Rika’s Pokemon. Gyarados can deal super effective damage using their Water-type or Ice-type moves while immune to Ground-type moves.
After defeating Rika and all of her Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, the player is one step closer to completing the Pokemon League and becoming a Champion in the Paldea Region!
