Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is an open-world game where the player is a transferee in a huge school in the Paldea Region. In the game, the player and the player only gets to decide whatever they want to do: whether to defeat the nefarious Team Star, defeat all the Pokemon Gyms, become the champion, and become the very best like no one ever was, to track down Titan Pokemon, or simply just complete the Pokedex and catch them all!
Here, we will talk about defeating Star Bases, which are part of the ‘Starfall Street’ quest line, and about defeating the Schedar Squad, also known as the Fire Crew, Star Base!
Location
The Fire Crew Star Base can be found in East Province (Area One) just west along the path near the East Province (Area One) Pokemon Center (or north of Artazon, which is the first city east of Mesagoza City).
Grunt Battle
Upon arriving in the Schedar Squad’s Star Base, head towards the gate where the player will be greeted by one of the crew’s grunts who will say that the base belongs to Team Star and that if the player does not leave, then he will have to come at the player in self-defense. Confirm on the prompt that you are not turning back, and a battle against the Team Star Grunt will commence!
The Team Star Grunt will only use one Pokemon, a Level 25 Houndour. With that in mind, it is worth mentioning that Houndour is a Dark and Fire-type Pokemon which means that it has a weakness against Fighting type, Ground-type, Rock-type, and Water-type moves (super effective), a resistance against Dark-type, Fire-type, Ghost-type, Grass-type, Ice-type, and Steel-type moves (not very effective), and immunity to Psychic-type moves (no effect).
After defeating the Team Star Grunt, he will say that the player is very strong and ask the player if the player was the one who declared war on Team Star. Select any of the responses from the prompt, and the Team Star Grunt will leave to head back with the rest of his crew.
After that, a small cutscene will play out with Clive involving a Charcadet, who he says looks like it may have some connection to Team Star’s Fire crew. Then, another cutscene will play out where Cassiopeia will explain to the player that inside the base is Team Star’s Fire crew called the Schedar Squad, and their boss is named Mela, who is the best all-rounder of the entire team and who must be very angry because of Cassiopeia and the player’s declaration of war. Cassiopeia will explain that the player must quickly take down all the grunts inside the base.
Star Barrage
In this next part, the player must battle many Pokemon within the allotted time. To do this, the player would have to send out multiple Pokemon, specifically the first three Pokemon in the player’s party, using the R button and have them battle the Grunts’ Pokemon simultaneously. The player will lose if all of the player’s Pokemon get worn out to battle, or the timer runs out. The player can retreat and give up by pressing the Y button before the timer runs out.
As previously mentioned, this is the base of Team Star’s Fire crew, so all the Grunts in the base will use a Fire-type Pokemon. With that in mind, it is worth mentioning that Fire-type Pokemon have a weakness to Ground-type, Rock-type, and Water-type Pokemon (super effective), so ready up Pokemon with these types to trounce the grunts.
It is recommended that the player use Level 27 and above Pokemon to easily defeat the Grunts’ Pokemon inside the Fire crew’s base.
Once the player is ready, head towards the base’s gate, interact with the bell with the glowing button, and confirm on the prompt to challenge Team Star’s Fire Crew. Clive will then explain what will happen in the Star Barrage, and a Grunt will talk on the speakers and say that if the player can defeat 30 of the Fire crew’s Pokemon within 10 minutes, then their boss, Mela, might just honor the player an appearance. After that, the Star Barrage will start! The Team Star Fire crew Grunts in the base will use a lot of Torkoal, Houndour, Growlithe, and Litleo.
This Star Barrage is very easy to complete given that the player has three strong or super effective Pokemon against Fire-type Pokemon and granted that these Pokemon are on the recommended level or are strong enough.
When the player’s Pokemon are low on health, the player can head back to Clive near the entrance and talk to him so he can heal the player’s Pokemon, or the player can interact with any of the vending machines inside the base.
Fire Crew Boss Mela
After defeating 30 of the Fire crew’s Pokemon within 10 minutes, Mela, the Boss of Team Star’s Fire crew, will appear on top of a Starmobile. Mela will then say that the player challenged them so that they will beat the player down. Then, a battle against Mela will commence!
Mela will only use two Pokemon. The first one is a Level 27 Torkoal, which is also a Fire-type Pokemon that has a weakness to Ground-type, Rock-type, and Water-type moves (super effective) and resistance to the Bug-type, Fairy-type, Fire-type, Grass-type, Ice-type, and Steel-type moves (not very effective).
The second Pokemon that Mela will use is the Schedar Starmobile, a Level 26 Fire-type Revavroom. As the Schedar Starmobile is also a Fire-type, it also has a weakness to Ground-type, Rock-type, and Water-type moves (super effective) and resistance to the Bug-type, Fairy-type, Fire-type, Grass-type, Ice-type, and Steel-type moves (not very effective).
After defeating Mela, a flashback cutscene will play about Mela and the other Team Star crew bosses. Then, Mela will give the player a Star Badge for defeating Team Star’s Fire crew and TM038, which is a move called Flame Charge. Flame Charge is a physical Fire-type move in which, if used, the Pokemon raises its Speed stat by one stage. Flame Charge has 50 Power, 100 Accuracy, and 20 PP. Mela will then clarify that she is not giving the move to the player but to the player’s Pokemon.
After that, Clive will then arrive and tell Mela that there’s a Pokemon that Clive wants her to see. The Charcadet from earlier will then appear, who Mela will recognize as a Pokemon nicknamed Charlos. Clive will then explain that it seems that Charlos came to this base to look for Mela and that it is very attached to her. Mela will then explain that she used to play with Charlos every day back when she was still going to school, and she can tell what Charlos is thinking by looking at the way its flames move.
After a few more dialogues, Cassiopeia will once again call the player and reward the player with 6,000 LP, and the player can now make more kinds of TMs using the TM Machine. The TM Machine Recipes that are unlocked are TM132 or Baton Pass, TM128 or Amnesia, TM107 or Will-O-Wisp, TM104 or Iron Defense, TM081 or Grass Knot, TM076 or Rock Blast, TM075 or Light Screen, TM074 or Reflect, TM056 or Bullet Seed, TM054 or Psyshock, TM053 or Smart Strike, TM046 or Avalanche, TM045 or Venoshock, TM044 or Dragon Tail, TM039 or Low Sweep, TM029 or Hex, TM018 or Thief, TM014 or Acrobatics, and TM011 or Water Pulse. Then, Penny will arrive and give the player some TM Crafting Materials from Cassiopeia.
Now that the player has defeated Team Star’s Schedar Squad and their boss, Mela, the player is one step closer to completing the ‘Starfall Street quest line and Operation Starfall!
