Max Payne was a hit game series when it came out back in the early 2000s—even spawning a movie back in 2008 starring Mark Wahlberg. Now it looks like the original studio Remedy is going to be remaking the first two games, and they’re going to be funded by Rockstar no less.

Remedy Entertainment Announces Remake for First Two Max Payne Games

As per their official announcement, Remedy Entertainment will be remaking Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. Founder of Rockstar Games Sam Houser had this to say about funding the remake:

“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games… We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

As for Remedy’s part, their CEO Tero Virtala said, “Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same… We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

Though we haven’t gotten any new Max Payne games lately, its influence can be seen with several shooter games that have been coming out. Besides the noir atmosphere and the storytelling, we’re also getting a lot of that ‘bullet-time’ gunplay that the series made so popular.

No release date has been set for the Max Payne remakes, but the project has been announced to be in the concept development stage.
