Resident Evil is no stranger to complicated puzzles. In fact, half of the game consists mostly of puzzles, and the other half is left for action-packed combat. One puzzle which frankly puzzles most, pun intended, is the sluice gate puzzle. From the main control room, you will have to open the gate using the buttons on the board. But even though there is a drawing of how the colors should be, it still doesn’t work.

When you have finished activating the main windmill with the unusual crank key, you can make your way to the Sluice control building. With the windmill there will be power going to the building.

Next to the buttons, you will see a picture of the full pattern of the puzzle. But even if you copy the same pattern on the panel, it still wouldn’t work. So, what’s the catch?

Well, to unlock the Sluice gate, all you need to do is turn the picture laying on the control panel sideways. So, the black-activated button is on the right (or on number 6 in numpad terms). Then, simply copy the rest of the pattern.

At the end you will have to have the following pattern:

  • 1,2,3: Blue, White, Orange;
  • 4,5,6: White, Orange, Black;
  • 7,8,9: Orange, Blue, Blue.

This is one of the most confusing puzzles in the game, as it is trying to fool you even after giving you the actual blueprint to the puzzle. It is one of the last puzzles in the game, and one could easily tell that it is.

If you’re having trouble finding the control building, it is located in Village 1F, in the Moreau Area.

Compared to other puzzles though, it is not that long or that challenging. It is just that the blueprint on the console is fooling many players.
