Ron Gilbert had delivered an all-time favorite point-and-click adventure with The Secret of Monkey Island back in 1990. Though we’ve had special editions released recently of the sequels, a brand new Monkey Island game has been announced with Gilbert back at the helm.
Here’s the announcement for Return to Monkey Island:
Announcing Return to Monkey Island, the long-awaited follow-up to the legendary Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge by Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games, coming 2022.
Though we have several different point-and-click adventure games today, Monkey Island had helped define the genre, and we can see its influence when it comes to the other narrative-based games.
With the recent releases being remakes of the classic Monkey Island games, it’s going to be great to get our hands on a brand new story from Gilbert. Hopefully he’s been up-to-date when it comes to the newer games because I’m sure that fans will want more of the same, but would also love if we got some new, more modern elements with this next entry.

No specific release date has been announced for Return to Monkey Island, but it does promise a release sometime in 2022. In the meantime, you can check out the special editions of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge now available on PC.
