Silent Hill 2 Remake has a soft-lock glitch in Brookhaven Hospital, causing players to be stuck and unable to progress through the game.
Players often encounter errors and glitches during gameplay, and most developers release a wave of bug fixes on their first patch. However, despite Silent Hill 2 Remake being out for over two weeks, the soft-lock bug in Brookhaven Hospital remains unresolved.
Silent Hill 2 Players players have taken it upon themselves to warn others about the glitch in Brookhaven Hospital, advising fans to save their progress frequently in different slots. This precaution gives players the option to reload an earlier save and avoid getting trapped by the unresolved bug. Here’s a spoiler-free summary on how to avoid the glitch.

The Glitch in Brookhaven Hospital
During your playthrough of Silent Hill 2 Remake, you’ll encounter a sealed door on the 3rd floor of Brookhaven Hospital. If you look through the porthole, you’ll spot Laura running away from James. Next to this porthole is a save point.
Later in the game, after a cutscene on the Brookhaven Hospital rooftop, James will be on the opposite side of the porthole door where you previously saw Laura. If you look through the porthole again from this side, you’ll incorrectly see the empty hall you’re currently standing.
Once you exit the porthole view, you’ll be standing on the wrong side of the door (with the save point), causing a soft-lock that prevents you from progressing further into the game.
How to Fix and Avoid Brookhaven Hospital glitch?
The only fix for the Brookhaven Hospital glitch in Silent Hill 2 Remake is to reload your game. Fortunately, after the rooftop cutscene that leads you to the empty side of the porthole, the game autosaves your progress.
Simply Load your autosave, and it should place you back on the correct side of the secure door, allowing you to continue your progression.
To prevent this glitch from occurring again, avoid looking through the porthole and focus on your mission to find Laura instead. Hopefully, the Bloober Team will release a patch to address this issue, alleviating distress for both longtime fans and new players.
