The Last of Us came out way back in 2013, and almost a decade later, the game is still celebrated as one that set a new standard when it comes to video game narrative. A remake had been announced after the release of Part II, and though we have no official confirmation from Naughty Dog, word is going around that the modern remake of TLOU could be coming out later this year.
Journalist Jeff Grubb had told the Kinda Funny Gamescast (via GamingBolt) that The Last of Us remake could be coming out sometime during the holidays this year. We don’t have any specifics, but if it’s going to come out in such a short time from the sequel, then maybe we can expect not much to change when it comes to the actual game.
If anything, The Last of Us still holds up pretty well when it came to the last-gen. Sure some of the graphics may appear outdated, but the narrative and gameplay are just so top-notch that I’m sure the experience is still pretty solid.
Besides the graphics upgrade, I don’t know where else Naughty Dog can improve the game. Maybe they can work on some gameplay elements, but it’s possible we could have a new chapter as well. What about a chapter where we follow Joel in his days right during the start of the outbreak? It sounds great in theory, but maybe it could mess with the whole narrative structure; then again, it’s just a pitch.
No release date has been officially announced for The Last of Us remake, but you can check out the game now available on PlayStation.
