Daily Lives of High School Boys
I am really surprised at this anime. At first glance, it doesn’t look at that interesting as they lack “female characters” and all that fan service stuff. But boy, the creators really know how to craft funny jokes and situations. I don’t think I have laughed harder at some of the jokes in the series. The anime is also a short series of 12 episodes, so you can literally do a marathon and finish it in 4-5 hours. Another surprising factor is that the supporting cast gets a good amount of show time as well, which they will also grow into you.
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu
Ah, nothing much more enjoyable watching the “dumb” students take on the “smart” ones in order to have better school facilities. I will admit, the anime is pretty idiotic but it does deliver funny and brainless nonsense. This type of humor isn’t for everyone, but it did made me laugh my butt off for quite a good portion of the show. Add on to the silly super powers and the typical harem for the male lead makes it a pretty good anime to watch.
Sket Dance
Helping students solve problems is the name of the game for Sket Dance. 3 people come together to form a club to help their fellow students solve all kinds of problems. This is where the funny stuff comes in. The jokes from the anime are very easy to understand unlike the “East vs West humor” which you won’t have a problem with. My favorite character from the anime is Bossun due to his childish traits and he can suddenly become serious when he concentrates on something. His facial expressions are also priceless!
Fruits Basket
I love anime with “special curses” where certain characters can’t do a specific thing or they will get punished for it. Fruits Basket is a perfect example. All the boys from the show suffer from a curse where if they where to hug females, they will be turned into Chinese zodiac animals. The anime does a great job at narrating each character’s situation. It is cruel and funny at the same time. The only unfortunate thing is that the anime is kinda cut short at the ending and many things are left hanging.
Is This a Zombie?
The main character gets killed and becomes a zombie. He gets revived by a female necromancer and ends up serving her as a guard. The anime humor shines in a sense that it is over the top and outrageous. Any situation gets exaggerated to the max and I can definitely appreciate this kind of humor. However, as I get older, this type of humor doesn’t appeal to me but let’s not take away how good some of the scenes are from the anime. If you want to see the main character cross dress and do silly things, you should watch it now!
The Familiar of Zero
Ah, the very standard magical anime with plenty of romance comedy. I think the main pairing Saito and Louise is a very accurate representation of most teen couples. The guy is extremely dense and gets into awkward situations. Plenty of the scenes revolve around Saito’s mishaps with Louise and their funny interactions. I won’t spoil the ending for you and you will need to watch it to find out.
School Rumble
The classic triangle love is present in this anime. The 2 main characters of the show are stuck in this complicated triangle love which makes some really funny and awkward situations. There are also a lot of other couple pairings and funny scenes that doesn’t include the 2 main characters which I found was pretty refreshing. There are plenty of characters with unique personalities which will grow on you. My favorite character is Hanai as I think he always tries to impress people but fails horribly every time.
Slam Dunk
This is probably my favorite comedy anime of all time. I guess its because I watch it during my early teen years and I have fond memories of it. The main character(Hanamichi) joins his school’s basket ball team to impress a girl he likes. He ends up liking the sport and also made a rival due to him being a much better basket ball player.
The story revolves around Hanamichi’s rise to stardom and his quest to win the basketball championships. The best part about the show is the funny jokes and scenes that occur during their basket ball practices and matches. The anime is old(1990s) I think even if you were to watch it in 2010s you will still find the humor relevant today.
Naruto
Naruto is THE MOST popular anime for kids in the 2000s, For the 1990s, it was Dragon Ball. What sets Naruto apart from Naruto Shippuden is the humor and also the goofy personality of Naruto. The underdog Naruto always wants to show off and beat his rival Sasuke and plenty of funny scenes occur. The most memorable moment for me was the first appearance of “Sexy no Jutsu”. I think I laughed so hard that I re-watched it many times. Unfortunately, Shippuden fails to recreate the humor for me but I think it is also because the jokes get recycled and it kinda gets old after a while.
