Changing your Riot ID in Valorant is fairly simple. Here’s how to do it.
In-game names, or IGN, combine letters, characters, words, or numbers that give you some sense of basic identity in many online games. While most games will allow you to change your in-game name from the settings menu, Riot’s tactical shooter will require you to go through a more involved process to change your display name.
This quick guide will show you how to change your Riot ID for Valorant.
What is a Riot ID?
When you first create your Riot Account, Riot will ask you to type in a combination of words or letters of your choice. This is your Riot ID; it is how other players find you in any of Riot’s titles, such as League of Legends or Valorant.
Riot Games’ titles do not offer the option to change your Riot ID within their games. As such, the Riot ID you come up with when creating your Riot Account will automatically serve as your in-game name or IGN in Riot titles such as Valorant.
However, that doesn’t mean players will be stuck with their initial name choice forever. Players have the option to change their Riot ID once every 30 days. In the next sections, we will show you how to find your Riot ID as well as how you can change it in Valorant.
How do I find my Riot ID in Valorant?
You can find your Riot ID in Valorant within the Riot Client or by logging in to your account on the Riot Games website.
- Click on the profile icon in the upper right corner of the Riot Client.
2. You can find your Riot ID and Tagline in the top part of the mini-menu.
Alternatively, you can find your Valorant Riot ID by logging in using your account on the Riot Games website and navigating to the Account Management section.
How to Change Riot ID
Logging in with your account on the Riot Games website is the only way to change your Riot ID. Follow the steps below.
- Login to the Riot Games website.
2. Type in your 2FA code (if applicable).
It is highly recommended that you enable 2FA or two-factor authentication for your Riot Account. Learn how to do that through our How to Enable Two-factor Authentication (2FA) in Valorant guide.
3. You can find your Riot ID at the top of the Account Management page on the Riot Games website. From there, you can change your Riot ID and Tagline.

Note: You can only change your Riot ID once every 30 days.
How many letters are in a Riot ID?
Your Riot ID can contain as many as 16 characters. You can use a combination of letters and numbers for your Riot ID and even special symbols and characters from other languages. You can view the website here.
A Redditor named u/WiizRDz created a website that shows you all the valid characters you can use on your Riot ID. You can also use the website to check whether your planned combination of characters is valid as a Riot ID.
Is your Riot ID the same as your username?
The terms username and ID are used interchangeably in many online games. However, things are slightly more complicated in Valorant or any Riot title.
When you create your Riot Games account, you will be asked to select a username, one of your login details, and your password. Initially, your Username will also serve as your IGN or in-game name for all Riot titles, Valorant included.
As shown in the guide outlined above, you can easily change your Riot ID and Tagline through the Account Management section on the Riot Games website.
Final Thoughts
Your Valorant Riot ID is the only way your friends and other players can find you in Valorant, so you must select one that’s easy to remember. If you’ve grown tired of your current Riot ID, you can also easily change it once every 30 days. Follow the steps outlined above to change your Riot ID.
