What is the Most OP Class in Baldur's Gate 3? - Answered

There are 12 classes and 46 subclasses in Baldur’s Gate 3. You can play as melee fighters, such as the Barbarian or Fighter, or assume the role of magic casters, like the Sorcerer or Bard. The game offers a variety of characters and playstyles to suit just about any type of player, and Larian Studios made sure to make all of them somewhat balanced so players don’t just go for the best class in the game.

With that being said, you’re probably wondering what the most overpowered class in Baldur’s Gate is right now. Read on to find out.

What’s the most OP Class in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The most overpowered class in Baldur’s Gate 3 is arguably the Fighter class, with its straightforward gameplay and high damage potential. The Fighter is also a very tanky class with high HP (second-highest health of any class in BG3) and Armor, allowing it to absorb tons of incoming damage in combat.

As a combat-focused Class that is only concerned with dealing the most damage possible, Fighters utilize various abilities to boost their combat prowess. Fighters can also utilize various weapons to help them deal damage from any range.

A Fighter you will encounter very early in Baldur’s Gate 3 is Lae’zel – a Githyanki Warrior who will help you get through enemies in the Nautiloid in the Prologue. You will be separated from Lae’zel after the Nautiloid crashes on the beach, but you can find and add Lae’zel to your party later on by freeing her from captivity.

What makes the Fighter Class OP?

The Fighter Class has two key abilities: Action Surge and Second Wind. Action Surge can significantly boost the Fighter’s decent damage output, while Second Wind allows the Fighter to Self-Heal once per combat (Level 1).

And then it has abilities such as Extra Attack and Great Weapon Master feat that allow it to deal damage multiple times (up to seven actions) in a single turn, further increasing the Fighter’s combat damage potential. The class’s ability to boost its damage output and deal damage to enemies multiple times allows it to slay most enemies in a single turn.

Fighters also boast some of the largest loadout selections in Baldur’s Gate 3. The Fighter Class can pick and use the many weapon types to suit close-quarters combat or long-range engagements, such as Simple Weapons, Martial Weapons, Longswords, short swords, Longbows, and Shortbows. This gives the Fighter Class the tools to deal with the verticality found in many dungeons in Baldur’s Gate 3.

It’s not all good news…

Unfortunately, there are no perfect classes in Baldur’s Gate 3, and while the Fighter might sound like the most OP Class in Baldur’s Gate 3 right now, the class has a few downsides that might steer you away from this powerful damage dealer.

One glaring downside to the Fighter Class is its lack of magic-based abilities (except if you decide to build your Fighter as an Eldritch Knight). And then there’s the Fighter’s gear dependence, which requires constant gear upgrades to keep the class’ competitiveness and effectiveness.

Nevertheless, if you can live with the Fighter’s lack of versatility and gear dependence, you will have a great damage dealer on your party who can quickly work even the most challenging enemies in the game.

What is the best starting class in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Fighter is not only the most OP class in Baldur’s Gate 3 but also the best starting class, thanks to its simple yet impactful gameplay characteristics.

As a Fighter, you can just focus on dealing and taking damage in battle; no need to worry about casting spells or using abilities to help your team – just pick your targets and kill them as quickly as you can to take the load off your party members.

A great starting class in Baldur’s Gate 3 will be easy to use and allow you to focus on the game’s gameplay and storyline. The Fighter fits the bill very well as arguably one of the easiest classes to play in the game, all while being relevant and impactful at any part.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Fighter Class is a combat-focused class that combines high damage potential with awesome durability. The Fighter’s generous HP will give you the confidence to aggressively engage any enemy without worrying too much about the repercussions.

At the same time, its high damage output should help you make short work of even the toughest foes in the game. The best part? You won’t have to worry about which spells or abilities to use in battle for the best results; just pick a target and attack away.
