How to Learn the Dash Slash Nail Art in Hollow Knight

In Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight, the Knight has many charms, abilities, attacks, and Nail Arts. One of these Nail Arts is the Dash Slash. This guide will teach you how the Knight can learn the Dash Slash Nail Art.

Taught by Nailmaster Oro, Dash Slash is a Nail Art taught to the Knight. With the Dash Slash, the Knight will unleash a long-ranged melee attack at the end of the Knight’s dash. The attack will extend far in front and roughly two-thirds as far behind the Knight.

The Dash Slash can be performed by holding the assigned ATTACK button until fully charged and then releasing it while dashing with the Mothwing Cloak or the Shade Cloak. This attack deals with 2.50 times the base damage of the Knight’s Nail.

As mentioned above, the Dash Slash’s damage depends on the Nail the Knight is using. The Knight’s Dash Slash will deal 12 damage performed with the Old Nail, 22 damage if performed with the Sharpened Nail, 32 damage if with the Channelled Nail, 42 damage if with the Coiled Nail, and 52 damage if performed with the Pure Nail.

Charms can also boost the Dash Slash attack. The Knight can use charms like the Sharp Shadow Charm, which allows the Knight to deal damage to enemies while dashing through them with the Shade Cloak while also increasing Shade Cloak’s dash length; Dashmaster Charm, which is a charm the Knight can use to decrease the cooldown of the Mothwing Cloak and allows the Knight to dash downwards, Nailmaster’s Glory Charm, which is a charm the Knight can use to decrease the time needed to charge Nail Arts, and the Fury of the Fallen Charm, which is a charm the Knight can use to increase the Knight’s Nail damage by 75% when on 1 Mask.

Some Charms will not affect the Dash Slash Nail Art, like the Fragile Strength Charm or Unbreakable Strength Charm. The Mark of Pride Charm or Longnail Charm does not affect its range.

The attack will be canceled if an enemy hits the Knight in the middle of the Mothwing Cloak’s dashing animation. However, it is possible to perform the Dash Slash with the Shade Cloak to dash through an enemy.

Location

As mentioned above, Dash Slash is taught by Nailmaster Oro. The Knight can find Nailmaster Oro in the eastern part of Kingdom’s Edge, and the Dash Slash Nail Art can be purchased for 800 Geo.

Kingdom’s Edge can be accessed in two different ways. But, this first way is the easiest. This is what the Knight must do to reach the Kingdom’s Edge:

  1. First, ride the Stagway to King’s Station and take the exit to the left just after the Bench (use the Bench if you want to heal and save your game).
  2. Then, drop to the bottom (kill the enemies in the area if you want some Soul and Geo) and take the exit on the right, which will have another Stagway sign.
  3. Upon entering, the Knight will see a broken Bench in half, a flooded Stagway Station, and two Vengeflies. Kill both Vengeflies and drop down on the water.
  4. Next, keep swimming to the right, where the Knight will go through a hidden passageway.
  5. Upon entering, you will immediately encounter a dive-bombing Belfly, so dodge or hide below an elevated platform to avoid being damaged.
  6. Then, go all the way to the right and take the exit.
  7. Upon entering, you will be on the central cliff of Kingdom’s Edge!

The other way of reaching Kingdom’s Edge is by taking the Tram from Ancient Basin or Deepnest. To reach Kingdom’s Edge using this method, this is what the Knight must do:

  1. From Deepnest or Ancient Basin, enter the Tram and interact with the glowing button in the rightmost part of the Tram (if you started from Deepnest, interact with the glowing button twice to reach Kingdom’s Edge).
  2. Next, exit the Tram and proceed to the right, where you will encounter spike pits, which you can easily jump and dash over, and Hivelings. Once you reach the right, use the exit right above.
  3. Upon entering, you are now in Kingdom’s Edge. But, to reach the central cliff, proceed upwards using the platforms while evading or killing the Booflies and Hivelings and take the exit on the top left.
  4. Then, proceed a little bit to the right, and before you reach the pool of acid, jump up the platform and again jump to the next platform right above it.
  5. Go to the right, where three Hivelings are found above an acid pool. Kill the Hivelings and jump and dash over the pool of acid to reach another platform.
  6. Continue to the right to see a wooden barrier after killing two more Hivelings.
  7. Break the wooden barriers and exit, and the Knight will be at the bottom of the central cliff!

Upon reaching Kingdom’s Edge, continue down the central cliff’s small platforms until you reach the bottom of the giant chasm. Then, continue to the right until you reach the exit. In this area, the Knight will encounter enemies called Hoppers, fast-moving enemies that hop along their areas at set intervals. Hoppers can be dashed under to avoid or kill them as you continue to the right. Then, near the end of the area, you will find a house/room and discover Nailmaster Oro inside.
