How to Beat Mimic Tear in Elden Ring

Long before your time as Tarnished, the now-lost people of Nokron, Eternal City, created Silver Tears. These are seemingly harmless enemies at first, considering how they’re literal blobs until you walk into their proximity. They can take on a human-like form and generate their weapons from almost nothing.

However, two specific Silver Tears were produced with the ability to copy their opponent, including spells, weapons, armor, and skills. This particular Tear became fittingly known as the Mimic Tear and one that drifted from the city, Stray Mimic Tear. In this guide, you’ll learn where to find the two existing enemies and how to defeat them.

Mimic Tear Elden Ring Overview

Mimic Tear as a foe is a simple concept: your literal shadow. However, the process of defeating it is more complicated. How do you win against an opponent that has all the same abilities and tools as you? Despite fighting against yourself, a few differences will make this fight significantly easier once you know of them.

For starters, Mimic Tear can heal, but just once; you are only limited to the number of Golden Seeds you collect (and there are many of them.) You also can use summons and multiplayer, while Mimic does not. In the pre-fight strategy, there will be suggestions about what kind of help you should employ and other ideas to consider. Also, despite the two, the game plan to defeat them is the same.

Is it possible to obtain Mimic Tear Ashes before this fight?

For the Mimic in Nokron, unfortunately, no. You have to defeat this boss to access the area where you can find the ashes. The only time you can is if you start a New Game+ and summon spirit for the fight. This is not possible in a normal New Game.

As for the other Tear in Haligtree, yes! You do not need to defeat the other one to reach this one. You can use the Mimic Tear Ashes to assist you in the fight against the second Mimic.

Elden Ring Mimic Tear Location

The first adversary can be found in Nokron, Eternal City. The closest Site of Grace is Nokron, Eternal City. To be able to enter this area, you’ll need to defeat Starscourge Radahn in Caelid first. Afterward, travel to the Fort Haight West Site of Grace in western Limgrave. Head to the field west of the site, just south of Mistwood, and you’ll see a massive crater. Proceed down into the crater to find Nokron.

Head east from that Site of Grace, and you’ll see a fog door just past a small bridge. Traverse the mist, and you’ll find Mimic Tear.

You’ll find them in the Hidden Path to the Haligtree for the second. You can access this area by obtaining the two Haligtree Secret Medallions following Latenna the Albinauric’s questline.

This one is a bit harder to get to, so let’s walk through the steps you’ll take to find it:

  • Once you have made it to the pathway using the medallions at the Grand Lift of Dectus, you’ll go into the building and take a left onto the stairs when you see it.
  • On the small balcony, once you reach the end of the first flight of stairs and before the second, you’ll see a piece of the broken railing. Drop straight down, and you’ll fall right onto an invisible pathway.
  • Turn right and walk forward until you see a doorway in the distance on your left. Walk straight to it and jump down to the platform on the left.
  • Go into the room from there, and you can defeat the enemies here or run around the Land Octopus to pull the lever behind it. Run to the other end of the room, through the hallway, and enter the dungeon. In the end, you’ll reach the fog door with the Mimic Tear behind it.

Pre-Fight Strategy

Win this fight by being smarter than your mirror.

Now that you know where to find Mimic Tear, it’s time to get into how you’ll prepare yourself to conquer this foe.

Allocate your flasks

As you know, Mimic can only heal once. If you’re not much of an FP user, consider adding a few more uses to your Crimson Tear Flasks for this fight. Typically, you should have at least 3, but raising that to 5 or higher will benefit you. You can use Golden Seeds to increase your number of flasks, which are found in various spots across the Lands Between. Here are a few spots you may have missed:

  • Fringefolk Hero’s Cave – Located just east of the Stranded Graveyard. You’ll need 2 Stonesword Keys to enter and obtain the seed; you’ll have to maneuver through the cave and defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit boss at the end. It’s one of the more difficult locations but one you more than likely missed.
  • Ravine-Veiled Village – Start by traveling to Testu’s Rise in the northern waters of Liurnia. Head northeast into the ravine until you reach the very end. You’ll see the shining tree near some Giant Land Squirts off to the left.
  • War-Dead Catacombs – After defeating Starscourge Radahn in far east Caelid, you’ll have entrance into this cave. To get the Golden Seed you’re looking for, you’ll need to defeat the boss Putrid Tree Spirit, and it’ll drop it as a reward.

Strategize your abilities

You know your skills best, so think over what has the most range, what does the most damage, and so on. If you have ranged abilities that can be dodged relatively easily, consider equipping those so you can roll out of the way. For physical abilities, take a look at what your build’s weaknesses are and exploit them. Stock up on any consumables that could be utilized to turn the fight in your favor.

Use summons to assist you

Considering this is a fight against yourself, it can be pretty tough. Give some thought to using spirits to put the odds in your favor. Mimic Tear cannot summon, so there’s no need to worry about them using it against you. The best way to pick a summon is to review the areas that can be taken advantage of. For general coverage of areas, here are some recommendations:

  • Black Knife Tiche – A quick, light-footed assassin that attacks her enemies with her Black Knife imbued with the Rune of Death. Her ashes can be obtained by defeating Alecto, the Black Knife Ringleader at Ringleader’s Evergaol in southwestern Liurnia. The closest Site of Grace is the Moonlight Altar southeast of the Evergaol—it costs 132 FP to summon.
  • Giant Rat Ashes – Summons 3 Giant Rats that spawn a little ways away from you and rush forward to start the fight. These ashes can be upgraded to +10 level, which will give the ability to have five rats each summon, which can be done by visiting Roderika at Roundtable Hold. The best part about these ashes is that they don’t consume FP to summon. You can find this help at West Windmill Pasture at Altus Plateau in the middle, stable with the rat enemies.
  • Skeletal Bandit Ashes – Used to raise a Skeletal Bandit to aid you in battle. The benefit of calling on this spirit is that since it lives in Death, it doesn’t die when its health bar is depleted. It sits out for a moment before reviving and stepping back into battle. The only way to finish it is to hit it once it’s down, which typically doesn’t happen in boss battles. You can obtain these ashes by defeating the Tibia Mariner Field Boss in Liurnia of the Lakes, slightly southwest of the Carian Study hall. The closest Site of Grace is the Artist’s Shack north of the Tibia Mariner. Skeletal Bandit has a small price of 22 FP to cast.

Mimic Tear Elden Ring Fight Strategy

Prepare for the battle against yourself.

Lastly, you’ll be ready to fight Mimic Tear after developing an in-battle plan alongside all the tools and knowledge in your arsenal. Let’s cover a few ideas you can consider.

Un-equip your armaments until the battle

One thing you can do is take off all of your weapons until you cross the fog gate. You re-equip your gear once you’re past it and start the fight. This tricks the system into thinking you’re going to fistfight Mimic, so it causes it to fight with its fists, and you’re brandishing weapons. This is a bit of a cheesier way to win, so it’s entirely up to you to utilize this option.

Try to time when you cast your summons

Initially, Mimic spawns as a blob with no real threat to it. It transforms into your mirror only when you get close enough to it. Walking across the fog, take a few steps into the area until the blob shows up. Once it does, summon your spirits and let them dash into the fight. The blob has significantly less HP and does less damage than Mimic Tear, so there is a chance your summons will kill it before it has the chance to change. The same goes for multiplayer.

Mimic Tear Elden Ring Rewards

The Mimic Tear battle is a true challenge for some, while it’s not so bad for others. Regardless, you’ll be given valuable winnings for both Mimics.

For Nokron Mimic, you get:

  • 10,000 Runes
  • Larval Tear x2
  • Silver Tear Mask

For Haligtree Mimic, you get:

  • 50,000 Runes
  • Blackflame Monk Amon Ashes

After defeating the Nokron Mimic, you can find the Mimic Tear Ashes within Night’s Sacred Ground, which will benefit you in the future. Overall, this is a fun adversary to conquer, and you get to experience it twice with awesome loot.
