Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is an open-world game where the player is a transferee in a huge school in the Paldea Region. In the game, the player and the player only gets to decide whatever they want to do: whether to track down Titan Pokemon, defeat all the Pokemon Gyms, become the champion, and become the very best like no one ever was, to defeat the nefarious Team Star, or simply just complete the Pokedex and catch them all!
Here, we will talk about defeating Pokemon Gyms, which are part of the ‘Victory Road’ quest line, and in this guide, we will talk about defeating the Grass-type Pokemon Gym in Artazon City!
Artazon Gym
The Artazon Gym can be found in, well, Artazon City, which is the first city in the east of Mesagoza City, just ahead of the path of South Province (Area Three) (or can be found southwest of Levincia City or southeast of East Province Area One).
Gym Test
Before the player can start battling against the Gym Leader of a Pokemon Gym, there is a new mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet where the player must first complete a Gym Test to prove that the player can take on the Gym Leader. Every Pokemon Gym has its own Gym Test, and the Gym Test in the Artazon Gym is the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek!
To start the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek Gym Test, let the player head inside the Artazon Gym and talk to the receptionist just ahead of the entrance then the receptionist will tell the player that the player must first complete the Gym Test to face the Gym Leader, Brassius, which means taking on the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek. The receptionist will then explain that Artazon City is a city of artists and that the artwork made by the people of Artazon is mostly inspired by nature and the sun that nurtures it. The receptionist will continue that the Sunflora, which are Pokemon that look like sun-shaped flowers, embody these concepts, so the people of Artazon try to gather and take good care of them. Then, the receptionist will explain how to complete the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek, which is by finding all of the Sunflora throughout Artazon.
After talking to the receptionist, exit the Artazon Gym, head to the southeastern part of Artazon City (or directly on the right side of the Artazon Gym), and there the player will see a lawn with two Sunflora statues on both sides of its entrance called the Sunflora Lawn with a person just outside asking if the player is ready to gather up some Sunflora.
Talk to the attendant, who will say that she will start to ask the Sunflora to spread themselves around Artazon. Then, she will say that the Sunflora is ready for the player and that the player’s Gym Test has begun. She will further explain that the player must find 10 Sunfloras and bring them back to the Sunflora Lawn. And, just like that, the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek Gym Test has started!
The Sunflora Hide-and-Seek is actually very easy to beat as Artazon is a small city, so it is easy to find 10 Sunfloras who will follow the player around once the player finds them. There are actually more than 10 Sunfloras around Artazon. However, now that you are already reading a guide for it, you might as well give the locations for each of the Sunfloras:
- There are three Sunfloras just in front of the Sunflora Lawn.
- A Sunflora can be found on the left side of the house on the Sunflora Lawn.
- There is a Sunflora just beside the path on the southern part of the middle structure (the Pokemon Battle arena with a windmill) of Artazon. The player would have to chase this Sunflora. After catching up, the player would have to battle and defeat this Sunflora.
- There is a Sunflora near the stairs that serve as the entrance on the northern side of the middle structure of Artazon.
- There is a Sunflora right in the middle of the Pokemon Battle Arena in the middle of Artazon. The player would have to battle and defeat this Sunflora.
- There is a Sunflora near the pond across the path on the northern part of the middle structure of Artazon.
- A Sunflora can be found if the player follows the wooden path on the right side of the previous Sunflora (the northern part of the middle structure of Artazon) and then takes the next wooden path to the left. The Sunflora can be found at the end of this wooden path.
- There is a Sunflora in the middle of an art structure on the right side of the wooden path.
- There is a Sunflora on a flower pot just beside a statue of a Sunflora and a couple of benches on the northwestern end of the Amazon.
- There is a Sunflora near the flowers on the western end of Artazon near the Pokemon Center. The player would have to chase this Sunflora too, and after catching up to it, the player would have to battle and defeat this Sunflora too.
- There is a Sunflora in the southwestern end behind a building in the southwestern end of Artazon.
- A Sunflora can be found under the kids’ play area in the southeast of the Artazon Gym.
- There is a Sunflora on a flower pot directly behind the Artazon Gym.
- A Sunflora can be found directly on the western side of Artazon Gym, which looks like it is playing a game similar to hopscotch.
- There is a Sunflora facing a vending machine near the southeastern end of the pool just southwest of the Artazon Gym.
- There is a Sunflora near one of the food carts on the northwestern end of the pool just southwest of the Artazon Gym.
- A Sunflora can be found near the flowers on the eastern end of Artazon near the Pokemon Center.
- There is a Sunflora on the left side of the middle building just slightly north of the previous Sunflora.
As the player would have to battle a few Sunfloras, it is worth noting that Sunflora is a Grass-type Pokemon which means it has a weakness to the Bug-type, Fire-type, Flying-type, Ice-type, and Poison-type moves (super effective) and resistance to Electric-type, Grass-type, Ground-type, and Water-type moves (not very effective).
After finding 10 Sunfloras, head back to the Sunflora Lawn on the eastern side of the Artazon Gym the Sunfloras will run inside the Sunflora Lawn, and the attendant will say that the player has completed the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek Gym Test!
Gym Leader Brassius
After completing the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek Gym Test, head back to the Artazon Gym then talk to the receptionist once again the receptionist will congratulate the player for completing the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek Gym test and say that the player has now earned the right to challenge the Artazon Gym Leader, Brassius the Verdant Virtuoso! Confirm on the prompt that the player is ready to challenge Gym Leader Brassius, and the player will now be brought to the battle court, which is the building structure in the middle of Artazon City with the windmill.
After that, the player will meet Gym Leader Brassius, introducing himself as an artist specializing in Grass-type Pokemon and the Gym Leader in Artazon City. As previously mentioned, the Artazon Gym is a Grass-type Gym which means that Gym Leader Brassius will mostly use Grass-type Pokemon.
Gym Leader Brassius will use three Pokemon: a Level 16 Petilil, a Level 16 Smoliv, and a Level 17 Sudowoodo with a Grass Tera type. Gym Leader Katy will use these Pokemon in this order and terastallize Sudowoodo, changing it from a Rock-type to a pure Grass type.
With that in mind, it is worth mentioning that Petilil is a Grass-type Pokemon which means it has a weakness to the Bug-type, Fire-type, Flying-type, Ice-type, and Poison-type moves (super effective), and resistance to Electric-type, Grass-type, Ground-type, and Water-type moves (not very effective), Smoliv is a Grass and Normal-type which means it has a weakness to the Bug-type, Fire-type, Fighting-type, Flying-type, Ice-type, and Poison-type moves (super effective), a resistance to Electric-type, Grass type, Ground-type, and Water-type moves (not very effective), and immunity to Ghost-type moves (no effect), and Sudowoodo, because of its Tera type and as Gym Leader Brassius will terastallize it, will become a Grass-type Pokemon which means it has a weakness to the Bug-type, Fire-type, Flying-type, Ice-type, and Poison-type moves (super effective), and resistance to Electric-type, Grass-type, Ground type, and Water-type moves (not very effective).
After defeating Gym Leader Brassius, the player will then receive the Grass Badge and TM020, which is a move called Trailblaze. Trailblaze is a physical Grass-type move where, if used, the Pokemon using the move raises its Speed stat by one stage. Tailblaze has 50 Power, 100 Accuracy, and 20 PP.
Now that the player has defeated Gym Leader Brassius and completed the Artazon Gym, the player is now one step closer to completing the ‘Victory Road’ quest line and becoming the Champion in the Paldea Region!
