All New Mobs in the Minecraft 1.20 Update

Learn which mobs will be released along with the new update in Minecraft, the 1.20 Trails & Tales Update.

All New Mobs in the Minecraft 1.20 Update

And one of the most exciting things about the annual major Minecraft updates is the upcoming new mobs that come with them. During Minecraft Live, they held a mob-voting event to vote for the best ones to be added to Minecraft. Players had three choices to choose from what’s the best.

The winning mob or biome will then be added to the game in the next exciting update, and last year’s mob vote winner was the sniffer, which is scheduled to be released with the Minecraft 1.20 Trails & Tales update. The sniffer is not the only mob in this update to be released; camels will also be added in the latest update. Both of these awesome mobs are present in the latest snapshots and betas.

The Trails & Tales update has already been set to be released later this year. With this latest update, there will be many new features, like armor trims, mobs, and archeology, with the new mobs being the key highlight.

So far, two new mobs are coming in Minecraft 1.20: the Minecraft camel, which Mojang chose as a new desert-dwelling mount, and the Minecraft sniffer, which won last year’s community mob vote. Learn what they are all about:

1. Camel

Minecraft is bringing camels to the game. Camels were announced and added to the betas and snapshots earlier than the sniffers. As we detailed earlier, Camels in Minecraft 1.20 are rideable passive mobs that spawn in desert villages. They are one of the tallest mobs in the game, even taller than the Endermen. Most of the time, you will find camels casually sitting on the desert village floor.

Behavior and spawning

Players will encounter a passive mob in the desert biome, specifically in the villages. It wanders around aimlessly and will, from time to time, sit down for a few seconds. As you might expect, they are one of the largest mobs in the game. They also keep you out of hostile mob reach while riding it. But remember that, unlike horses, camels are much slower than horses in complex terrains.

Taming, breeding, and drops

Like horses, camels can also be ridden and tamed by placing a saddle on them. While being ridden, camels can walk forward and cover distances of up to twelve blocks forward and one block upward. Players can also breed them by giving cacti to two adult camels.

Another cool thing about riding camels is that they are tall enough not to let hostile mobs, such as zombies and vindicators, attack the player. However, spiders, slimes, and other mobs capable of jumping can still reach the player. Like sniffers, camels in Minecraft do not drop anything when killed. However, they may drop a saddle if they are equipped with one.

2. Sniffer

The Sniffer was introduced before Minecraft Live 2022 as part of the event’s yearly Mob Vote. It had to compete with the Tuff Golem and Rascal but won the lion’s share of the player vote, becoming the desired pick to be included in version 1.20.

The Sniffer is one of the first prehistoric creatures introduced to the game and is unique in appearance and behavior. Although announced as an ancient creature, the sniffer looks nothing like one as it has vibrant colors.

Behavior and spawning

This mob walks around slowly and will randomly start sniffing the ground. The behavior of the sniffer is to dig up torch flower seeds or pitcher pods. Being an extinct ancient creature, the sniffer doesn’t spawn commonly in the game’s world.

Players in survival mode will have to locate their eggs and hatch them. Sniffer eggs can be found in suspicious sand blocks that generate in warm ocean ruins. Hatching sniffer eggs is quite easy as players only need to place the egg on a solid block, which will automatically hatch in twenty minutes.

The waiting time can be cut in half by placing the egg on a moss block instead. Fortunately, the Sniffer doesn’t appear to be hostile, and it should be quite beneficial for players who enjoy gardening and farming. Little is known about the Sniffer past and its love of flowers and greenery, but players may learn more about the mob in future trailers provided by Mojang.

Breeding

Like many other passive mobs, When two sniffers are bred with torch flower seeds, they produce a baby sniffer known as a snifflet. This progeny is somewhat smaller than its full-grown parents, and oddly enough, there is a size discrepancy between Minecraft editions.

Drops

Slaying sniffers can be sad to see, as the mob has items and experiences drops like many of its in-game counterparts. Upon death, sniffers drop one to three experience points when killed by a player or a tamed wolf.

However, killing a sniffer in this way also has a 10% chance of the sniffer dropping a moss block. This small percentage chance can be increased with the Looting enchantment. Since moss blocks are typically only found within lush caves, sniffers present a new way to collect moss blocks in Minecraft’s Survival Mode.

Players cannot benefit from slaying this vibrant ancient creature as it does not drop anything aside from negligible experience points. The only items that can be obtained from the sniffer are the seeds and pods.

Minecraft 1.20 may present even more mobs in future trailers and preview snapshots/betas. Once additional content is on its track to completion, Minecraft fans may learn even more about the update’s new mobs and even those they haven’t seen thus far.

The community should also learn quite a bit more about camels and the sniffer as the next major update for the game approaches. Surely, the initial trailer for update 1.20 is only the beginning, as Mojang is proficient in releasing these awesome feature updates bit by bit as their development cycle continues.
