Learn every elixir recipe in Tears of the Kingdom!
In the mystical kingdom of Hyrule, a land steeped in legends and dangerous adventures, a new chapter unfolds in the mesmerizing world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Undoubtedly, as Link traverses treacherous landscapes and faces formidable foes, cooking plays an important role.
Within this enchanting world, the creation of elixirs becomes a vital skill. All in all, this enables Link to bolster their strength, restore their stamina, and other various effects. In general, the path to triumph lies in the delicate balance of ingredients, the mastery of recipes, and the unwavering determination to overcome the challenges that lie ahead.
For this reason, in this guide, we’ll cover how to make elixirs and every elixir recipe in Tears of the Kingdom. Finally, the legend awaits; let the brewing of elixirs commence!
What are Elixirs in Tears of the Kingdom?
Like in Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom also has the cooking mechanic. Through this mechanic, Link can cook items that will help him in his journey exploring the land, skies, and depths of Hyrule. Cooking allows Link to use various ingredients and items found all over Hyrule to make consumable items. Finally, one category of these items is Elixirs.
Elixirs are similar to potions that give Link different abilities and improvements every time he drinks one. For example, among the different effects given by Elixirs are an increase in attack, increase in defense, restore stamina, restore hearts, increase in movement speed, increase cold resistance, increase heat resistance, increase shock resistance, increase stealth, increase slip resistance, and the ability to glow.
For those reasons, because of the effects mentioned above, Link can use the help of Elixirs to defeat and survive challenging enemies and areas in the game. These Elixirs can especially be helpful during the early parts of the game when Link does not have certain armors yet.
For example, Link can consume Elixirs with an added cold or heat resistance to traverse very cold or hot climates without cold or heat resistant armor.
How to Make Elixirs
The most basic recipe to remember is to cook critters and monster parts together in a cooking pot to cook up Elixirs.
Furthermore, press the + button to open Link’s inventory and the L or R button to navigate to the Materials page. After that, press the X button to start holding materials. At this point, the player can add the critters and monster parts they want to cook up. After that, press the B button to return to the game, approach a cooking pot, and press the A button to start cooking!
It is important to mention that the player should not add an ingredient that is not a critter or a monster part. Instead, this will result in the elixir becoming dubious food.
Critters
Link will find a lot of different critters all over the land, sky, and depths of Hyrule. These critters generally consist of frogs, lizards, and various bugs all over Hyrule, like dragonflies and crickets. Overall, Link can find critters in ponds, caves, forests, and various landscapes and climates. Also, mentioning that these critters are nimble and will run away if they notice Link is important. Because of that, it is recommended to use stealth to catch them.
The critters in the recipe represent the effect that the Elixir will give Link. Cooking multiple critters with similar effects will produce an Elixir with stacked/improved effects. Also, it is important to mention that the effects of the critters added to the ingredients that Link holds should all have similar effects. Otherwise, the effects will cancel out.
Aside from their effects, some critters also add to the duration that the effect is active when consumed.

Monster Parts
After that, the other ingredient needed to brew Elixirs is monster parts. As you can probably tell from what they’re called, Link can get monster parts from defeated monsters found all over Hyrule. In the game, monster parts serve two purposes: making elixirs and upgrading armor and weapons.
In making Elixirs, monster parts represent the duration that the effect will last once Link has consumed the Elixir. The more monster parts added as an ingredient, the longer the Elixir’s effect lasts.
The following are the monster parts that Link can farm in the game and the duration they add to the Elixir:

Cooking Pot
Link must find a cooking pot to cook meals or brew elixirs. Link can generally find cooking pots in stables and settlements around Hyrule. There are also cooking pots in various camps all over the map. Also, the fire under them must be lit for you to cook using cooking pots for cooking using cooking pots.

Link can do this using a lot of different methods. However, the most common is dropping a piece of Flint next to the wood and striking them using a metal weapon.
Aside from that, Link can also use a Portable Zonai Pot to cook meals and elixirs. It is worth noting that Link can only use a single Portable Zonai Pot once. Then, after cooking a meal or making an elixir using the Portable Zonai Pot, it will disappear. Also, Link does not have to create fire for this pot as it will be ready to use after placing it in the overworld.
Furthermore, Link can get Portable Zonai Pots from Zonai Gacha Gumball Dispensers. Specifically, these dispensers can be found in the Great Sky Island, the Hyrule Ridge Sky, the Faron Grasslands Sky, the Hebra Mountains Sky, southwest of Hyrule Field, and the Death Mountain Depths.
Every Elixir Recipe in Tears of the Kingdom
All in all, from all the critters and monster parts in the game, Link can create a total of 14 kinds of Elixirs. The following are all the Elixirs that Link can cook up in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom:
Hearty Elixir
Firstly, one of the Elixirs in the game is the Hearty Elixir. Link can cook a Hearty Lizard and a few monster parts to create this elixir.
This elixir will restore Link’s hearts and add extra temporary hearts. As a matter of fact, at the very least, the Hearty Elixir will restore all of Link’s hearts and add four temporary hearts. Additionally, the amount of hearts that Link will get depends on the number of Hearty Lizards added as ingredients.
Fairy Tonic
Another example is a Fairy Tonic. To make this, Link must add one or a few Fairies and cook them in a pot. Compared to what was mentioned above, Fairy Tonic is the only exception to the rule that monster parts must be added to create an elixir.
This item will restore at least seven of Link’s hearts. Also, the more Fairies are added, the more hearts the Fairy Tonic will restore.
Energizing Elixir
Another is the Energizing Elixir. To make this elixir, Link must cook an Energetic Rhino Beetle and/or Restless Cricket and some monster parts.
This elixir will restore Link’s stamina wheel. In addition, the amount restored depends on the number of critters added as ingredients.
Enduring Elixir
After that, the next elixir is an Enduring Elixir. Link can cook a Tireless Frog with some monster parts to make this elixir.
In essence, the Enduring Elixir will restore Link’s stamina and add additional temporary dynamism. Moreover, the number of Tireless Frogs added to making the elixir dictates the amount of stamina Link will receive.
Mighty Elixir
Next, another example is the Mighty Elixir. Link can cook a Blade Rhino Beetle with some monster parts to create a Mighty Elixir.
This elixir will boost Link’s attack, allowing Link to deal more damage. Furthermore, the more Blade Rhino Beetles added to the elixir, the higher the boost in attack. Also, the duration that Link will have an increased attack depends on the monster parts added to the concoction.
Tough Elixir
To create a Tough Elixir, Link can cook a Rugged Rhino Beetle and some monster parts.
In this case, the Tough Elixir will boost Link’s defense, which will lessen the damage that will receive from enemy attacks. Further, the Elixir will give a higher boost in defense when more Rugged Rhino Beetles are added as ingredients. Additionally, how long the effect is active depends on the number and type of monster parts added to make the elixir.
Hasty Elixir
Link must cook a Hightail Lizard and/or Hot-Footed Frog and monster parts to create this elixir.
The Hasty Elixir will boost Link’s movement speed, which is Link’s running, climbing, and swimming speed. The first thing to remember is that increased speed depends on how many critters are added to the concoction. Additionally, how long Link’s movement speed is increased depends on the type and number of monster parts added as ingredients.
Sneaky Elixir
After that is the Sneaky Elixir. Link must cook a Sunset Firefly with a few monster parts to make this elixir.
This elixir will boost Link’s stealth, decreasing the noise that Link will generate while moving. For this reason, this helps sneak up on enemies and various creatures in the wild without Link being detected. In addition, the duration that the effect is active depends on the monster parts added as ingredients.
Spicy Elixir
Link must cook a Summerwing Butterfly and/or Warm Darner with some monster parts to make this elixir.
This elixir will give Link cold resistance. For this reason, this is useful for traversing the snow-covered areas of Hyrule or even traversing the desert at night. Also, the duration that this effect is active depends on the number and type of monster parts added.
Electro Elixir
After that, we have the Electro Elixir. Link can add an Electric Darner and/or a Thunderwing Butterfly with some monster parts to make an Electro Elixir.
In essence, this elixir will give Link electricity/shock resistance. In other words, this will decrease Link’s damage from electrical attacks. Additionally, the monster part ingredients dictate how long the effect is active.
Chilly Elixir
To create a Chilly Elixir, Link must cook a Cold Darner and/or a Winterwing Butterfly and a few monster parts.
In this case, the Chilly Elixir will give Link heat resistance. This elixir is useful for traversing hot environments like the desert during the day. In addition, the type and number of monster parts used to make the elixir dictate the duration that the effect is active.
Fireproof Elixir
To make this elixir, Link can add a Fireproof Lizard and/or a Smotherwing Butterfly and a few monster parts and cook them in a cooking pot.
The Fireproof Elixir will prevent Link from catching fire. This elixir is especially helpful in traversing the volcanic areas of Hyrule.
Bright Elixir
After that, we have a Bright Elixir. In this case, Link must cook a Deep Firefly and some monster parts to make a Bright Elixir.
This elixir will make Link light up and make a ring of light around him. This is especially helpful in traversing dark areas like the Depths. Also, Link’s glowing duration depends on the number and type of monster parts used in creating the elixir.
Sticky Elixir
To create a Sticky Elixir, Link should cook a Sticky Frog and/or a Sticky Lizard along with some monster parts.
In essence, the Sticky Elixir will give Link slip resistance. This helps climb up surfaces during the rain or icy surfaces. Additionally, how long Link will have slip resistance depends on the type and number of monster parts added to make the elixir.
Conclusion
As can be seen, elixirs can greatly help Link explore the vast world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Because of that, it is recommended to keep collecting the critters and monster parts the player will encounter, even if they are not immediately needed.
Doing this will remove the need to farm items when Link needs a specific elixir. When the need arises, Link can immediately cook some up.
