Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set in olden times in the Pokemon world when it was rare to find harmony between people and Pokemon. Set in the Hisui region, modern-day Sinnoh, you will join the Galaxy Expedition Team (Galaxy Team for short) as a member of the Survey Corps stationed in Jubilife Village. You will be tasked to meet every Hisui region Pokemon to complete the region’s first-ever Pokédex.
The Galaxy Team will task the player with missions in the game. Various people will also request help from the player. One of these requests is Request 73, titled ‘Which is the Real Burmy?’. This guide will teach you how to complete the ‘Which is the Real Burmy?’ request.
Which is the Real Burmy?
To unlock this request, the player must first receive ‘The Slumbering Lord of the Tundra’ Mission, the twelfth mission in the game where the player must quell a frenzied Noble Hisuian Avalugg.
After doing the requirements mentioned above, you can now start this request! To do that, head to the west side of the Jubilife Village on the right side of the farm (near the left row of houses), and there the player will find three villagers named Duna, Lief, and Tarush.
Talk to Leif, the man in the blue shirt, and the player will overhear them arguing. Leif will say that Burmy is the Pokemon with a cloak made of leaves to which Duna will then disagree and say that Burmy’s cloak is made up of minerals like sand and rock, but then Tarush will interject and say that if it is not covered in the trash, then it is not a Burmy.
Leif will then question Duna and Tarush if they saw a Burmy and not some other Pokemon, to which Duna will question Lief back and tell him that they could ask him the same thing. Tarush will then mention that he has seen a Burmy here in the Hisui Region, and he has seen one back in his region, and both of the Burmy is covered in the trash, to which Duna will reply that maybe he just got confused somehow.
Lief will then point out that they are all just repeating the same arguments over and over, so they will all turn to the player, and Leif will say that they could figure out which of them is correct if someone brought an actual Burmy. So, Leif will ask the player to catch one and show it to them. Then, the ‘Which is the Real Burmy?’ Request has started!
To complete this request, the player must catch the three forms of Burmy to show Leif, Duna, and Tarush. Now it is time to find the three forms of Burmy!
Burmy can be found by striking shaking trees by throwing one of your Pokemon at it in the Obsidian Fieldlands (Plant Cloak form), the Cobalt Coastlands (Trash Cloak form), and the Coronet Highlands (Sandy Cloak form). Even though it is not guaranteed that a Burmy will drop down from the tree, it is recommended to check the trees in Deertrack Path, Deertrack Heights, and Nature’s Pantry near the Heights Camp in the Obsidian Fieldlands for the Plant Cloak form in Crossing Slope, Ginkgo Landing near the Beachside Camp, and Veilstone Cape in the Cobalt Coastlands for the Trash Cloak form, and in Celestica Ruins, Celestica Trail, and Fabled Spring in the Coronet Highlands for the Sandy Cloak form. Burmy and their respective forms can be found in these locations at all times of day and in every weather condition.
After the Burmy drops from the shaking tree, the player would have no choice but to battle the Burmy before catching it, which means it is important to note that Burmy is a Bug-type Pokemon with a weakness in Rock-type, Fire-type, and Flying-type moves (super effective) and resistance to Fighting-type, Grass-type, and Ground-type moves (not very effective).
After catching a Plant Cloak form, Trash Cloak form, and Sandy Cloak form of Burmy, head back to Duna, Lief, and Tarush, still on the west side of the Jubilife Village on the right side of the farm, and talk to Lief then show him the Burmy in the Plant Cloak form (green) by selecting it on the prompt. Lief will then confirm that it is a Burmy. Duna will then mention that it does look similar, but it must be a different species, but Tarush will say that he is not buying it and it is not a Burmy. Because of this, Lief will say that he thinks they would need to look at the “fake” Burmy too if the “real deal” will not convince them, so he will ask the player to show them the Burmy that Duna and Tarush were talking about.
Next, talk to Duna and show her the Burmy in the Sandy Cloak form (yellow/white) by selecting it on the prompt to which Duna will say it is the real Burmy. Lief will disagree that it is the Burmy, but he agrees that it does look similar. Tarush will agree with Lief and look for its trash. Because of this, Duna will ask them how they can still disagree after seeing it up close. So, she will ask the player to show them the Burmy the others were talking about.
After that, talk to Tarush and show him the Burmy in the Trash Cloak form (pink) by selecting it on the prompt that Tarush will say is the real Burmy. However, Lief and Duna will both disagree. Lief then says they still can’t agree on anything even after seeing all of Burmy’s three forms. So, Lief will say that they should refer to Professor Laventon and whichever Burmy he chooses to put in the Pokedex will be considered the real Burmy. After that, Lief will ask the player to show them Burmy’s Pokedex entry once the player has completed it.
Now it is time to complete Burmy’s Pokedex entry! To complete Burmy’s Pokedex entry, all the player has to do is to reach Research Level 10 by accomplishing Research Tasks. After the player has caught all three forms of Burmy from trees, Burmy’s Research Level in the player’s Pokedex is most likely on Research Level 8. So, the easiest way to get it to Research Level 10 is to defeat one using a Flying-type move.
This can immediately complete Burmy’s Pokedex entry fast because catching Burmy for the first time raises the Research Level by two, catching a Burmy for the third time raises the Research Level by another two, and catching all three forms of Burmy raises the Research Level by two, encountering a Burmy after it leaps out of trees for the first time raises the Research Level by one, encountering a Burmy after it leaps out of trees for the third time raises the Research Level by another one (all of the instances mentioned above can be done after catching all three forms of Burmy from trees), defeating a Burmy for the first time raises the Research Level by one, and defeating a Burmy using a Flying-type move for the first time raises the Research Level by one which will all result to Research Level 10.
Just so there is no confusion, the player does not need to do all the Research Tasks for each form of Burmy as there is only one Pokedex entry for Burmy.
After completing Burmy’s Pokedex entry, head back to Duna, Lief, and Tarush, still on the west side of the Jubilife Village on the right side of the farm, and talk to any of them again to show them Burmy’s completed Pokedex entry. They will realize that all the Burmy they are referring to is indeed real Burmy and that Pokemon of the same species can come in different forms. Tarush will then mention that it turns out they were all right, and they wasted their breath arguing. So, they will all apologize to each other, and the player then thank the player for help in clearing out the confusion.
Finally, they will reward the player with one Leaf Stone and three Exp. Candy M for your efforts!
Now that you have completed the ‘Which is the Real Burmy?’ request, you can now try to complete other requests, complete missions, or complete Arceus’ task for you, which is to catch ’em all!
