The Witcher 3 is one of the most popular games of our generation. It is the perfect mix of combat, crafting, exploration, decision-based story outcomes, role-playing, and open-world gameplay. With hundreds of awards under its belt, CD Projekt Red discovered a shaft of gold and fame through Geralt as he traverses the life of a Witcher.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt follows the story of the monster-slayer Geralt of Rivia as he crosses territories and encounters different creatures and deities while searching for his adopted daughter Ciri. As they are famously called, the Witchers are hired by people, from townsfolk to kings, to slay different kinds of monsters across the fictional Slavic-based country.
These monsters have different habitats, behaviors, powers, tendencies, and weaknesses. For this reason, players must equip Geralt with the right kind of weapon and armor depending on the expected enemies to face. In addition to this, Geralt must use a different sword when dealing with hostile humans since his silver sword is solely for fighting monsters.
Many armors and weapons are easily found and purchased in the Witcher world. They can be dropped as loot from enemies, sold by merchants, and even as quest rewards. But among the plethora of weapons and armors easily available at players’ disposal, there lies a set of unique weapon and armor pieces hidden across the land, only attainable when certain conditions are met. One of these unique items is the Basic Feline Witcher Gear, specializing in increasing attacks and inflicting bleeding to enemies.
Even more special are the weapon and armor pieces representing the six different Witcher Schools: School of Viper, School of Wolf (where Geralt hails from), School of Cat, School of Bear, School of Manticore, and School of Griffin. Basic Griffin School Diagrams
The Griffin Witcher Gear is one of the earliest Witcher Gear sets you will encounter in the game. While the basic diagrams are fairly easy to craft and locate, the enhanced, superior, and mastercrafted versions are different. The materials used to craft them are relatively easy to find. Still, the diagrams are the ones that require more effort in obtaining—like any witcher gear in the game, wearing it as a set increases bonuses with each upgrade. The School of Griffin is probably one of the most balanced stats for Witcher Gear, and when crated early, it will help Geralt get through the early stages of the game.
These diagrams are ones you will spend hours finding since the materials required to craft them are accessible to players through exploration, loots, and merchants. In addition to this, players must also find the right blacksmith and armorer to craft these items scattered throughout the Witcher World.
Players must have a considerable amount and variety of materials at this point. Should Geralt find himself lacking materials to craft the gear in the diagram, then spend more time looting, hunting, and exploring until you get all necessary items necessary.
Griffin Steel Sword Diagram
Travel west from Oxenfurt until you arrive at a small island with a couple of ruins. Find a way to go up these ruins until you encounter a nest of harpies. You can easily dispose of these enemies but avoid falling to your death. After you have rid yourself of the monsters and destroyed their nest, you will find a corpse that contains the Griffin Steel Sword Diagram. This basic version of the sword has the following specs:
- 87 – 107 Damage
- Sign Intensity +5%
- Bonus XP from Humans and Nonhumans +5%
The necessary materials required to craft the Basic Griffin Steel Sword are as follows:

Griffin Silver Sword Diagram
Travel to the northwestern tip of Velen until you find a lighthouse in Lornuk. A lifted drawbridge prevents you from crossing with a Level 14 wyvern at the end to greet you. However, you can go down to the shore, and when you see a Place of Power, you can dive to find an underwater cave and passageway that will lead you inside the Lighthouse. Climb a ladder to go on top of the abandoned building, and you will find a chest containing the Griffin Silver Sword Diagram. The basic version of the sword has the following specs:
- 162 – 198 Damage
- Sign Intensity +5%
- Bonus XP from Monsters +20%
The necessary materials required to craft the Griffin Silver Sword are as follows:
- 1x Leather Scraps
- 3x Silver Ingot
- 1x Fifth Essence
- 1x Monster Brain
Griffin Armor Diagram
The complete set of the Griffin Gear is listed together because they can be obtained altogether in one go. However, getting to them is a little tricky, involves a lot of walking, and even finding hidden rooms on top of killing many different monsters. We will explain exactly how to get to it, though, so do not worry.
Travel west of the Reardon Manor and Downwarren Village until you arrive at the Dragonslayer’s Grotto in a cave. There are a lot of treasures in this cave, but to get to the diagrams, you need to go straight ahead. You will be welcomed by a handful of Level 7 wraiths which will be tricky to kill. Use Yrden to make these wraiths materialize and hack away with your silver sword.
When you eventually reach the end of the cave, look to the left side to find a brittle wall that can be destroyed using Aard to reveal a secret room. This room is filled with flammable poison gas that will easily reduce your life to zero. You can use Aard to disperse the gas so you can pass through temporarily. You can also use Igni, but if you stand too close to the gas, the explosion from Igni will knock you back and deal considerable damage. Take note that you may still be battling with some more wraiths at this point.
Going further in, you will find a chamber where a Level 14 Ekimmara resides. Vampires like the Ekimmara are difficult to kill, even when you are at the same level, so be careful. Use Igni to counter this vampire’s attacks and always dodge when you see an impending attack coming. The Ekimamra turns invisible, so be wary of your actions, especially in the dark. After dealing with it, you will find your Griffin Witcher Gear Diagrams in a chest as a reward for overcoming the horde of enemies. The basic armor set has the following specs:
