Hollow Knight: How to Find Cornifer in Fungal Wastes

Team Cherry’s Metroidvania action-adventure game, Hollow Knight, follows the journey of a nameless warrior called the Knight as he travels through Hallownest, which is now a kingdom ruined by a supernatural disease. As the Knight journeys through Hallownest, he encounters various characters that will help fully unravel the story in the game.

Hollow Knight: How to Find Cornifer in Fungal Wastes

In order to fully explore and navigate through Hallownest, the Knight must have the maps for the different areas in the game. To obtain maps, the Knight must purchase them from the humming cartographer named Cornifer. Cornifer is working on mapping the entirety of Hallownest so he can be found in every area and sell the area’s map to the Knight.

In this guide, the player will learn how to find Cornifer in Fungal Wastes!

Fungal Wastes

Cornifer’s location in Fungal Wastes is inside a room that can be accessed through a narrow path in the western part of the middle of Fungal Wastes.

The Knight will encounter lots of various enemies in Fungal Wastes but the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to Cornifer: an Aspid Hunter, a Leaping Husk, a Wandering Husk, Fungoons, Amblooms, Shrumelings, Shrumal Ogres, Sporgs, a Fungified Husk, a Husk Hornhead, and Funglings.

Before the Knight can find Cornifer in the area, it is required that the Knight has the Mothwing Cloak ability, which allows the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forwards. Although not required, it would help if the Knight has the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a double jump in mid-air. With these abilities, finding Cornifer in Fungal Wastes will be no challenge at all.

In order to find Cornifer in Fungal Wastes, this is what the Knight must do (this is assuming that it is the Knight’s first time in the area):

  1. Starting from the Bench inside the Ancestral Mound in the Forgotten Crossroads, head to the left to exit the Ancestral Mound, head to the left, drop down the gap, at the bottom, head to the right, drop down the gap, head to the right, then exit the area.
  2. Next, head to the left, drop down the gap, head to the right, drop down the gap towards the small platforms below, head to the bottom before the spikes, and take the exit on the right.
  3. Then, head to the right, drop down the gap, head to the right where the Knight will encounter an Aspid Hunter and a Leaping Husk, drop down the gap, head to the left on the path below the previous platform where the Knight will encounter a Wandering Husk, then take the exit on the left.
  4. After that, head to the left, jump towards the platform above on the left with the help of the Mothwing Cloak ability or the Monarch Wings ability, continue heading to the left, drop down the gaps on the left, at the bottom head to the right, then take the exit that leads downwards.
  5. Next, the Knight has now arrived in Fungal Wastes. Head to the right, where the Knight will encounter a Fungoon, drop down the gap on the left towards a small platform where the Knight will encounter another Fungoon, drop down the gap on the left towards another small platform where the Knight will encounter an Ambloom on the left, drop down towards the platform below on the right where the Knight will encounter another Ambloom, jump towards the small platform on the left where the Knight will encounter another Fungoon, drop down the gap on the left, drop down the next gap on the right and land on a small platform, continue heading down using the small platforms where the Knight will encounter another Fungoon (be careful not to fall on the pool of acid below), and head to the platform on the left of the pool of acid.
  6. Then, drop down the gap on the right, land on the small platform, drop down towards the next small platform below on the right, drop down the gap on the right, and land on a platform on the right side of another pool of acid, jump across the pool of acid below on the right and head towards the platform on its right side, drop down the shaft on the right, and land on a small platform. It is worth mentioning that there is a Bench next to Leg Eater on the next exit on the right where the Knight can heal and save your progress.
  7. After that, jump across the pool of acid below and head towards the small platform on the left of the pool of acid, drop down the gap on the left, drop down the next gap on the left, land on a small platform, drop down the gap on the right, drop down another small platform, drop down the gap on the left, land on a platform on the left side of another pool of acid, drop down the gap on the left, land on a small platform, drop down the gap on the right, land on another small platform, jump towards the next small platform below on the right just above the pool of acid, jump towards the platform on the right of the pool of acid, drop down the gap on the right, head down using the small platforms, at the bottom head to the left while jumping across the gaps of the pool of acid, then take the exit on the left.
  8. Next, continue heading to the left, where the path to continue and back will be closed, and the Knight will encounter two Shrumal Ogres and a bunch of Shrumelings. The Knight must defeat these enemies to continue.
  9. Then, after defeating them, head to the left, drop down the platforms, then take the exit below.
  10. After that, head to the left, strike the huge lever on the ceiling to open the path on the left, continue to the left, drop down the gap, head to the right where the Knight will encounter another Ambloom, drop down the platforms on the right, drop down the next gap on the right, head to the left where the Knight will encounter a Sporg, drop down the gap on the left, head down using the small platforms where the Knight will encounter two more Sporgs, at the bottom head to the left, jump across the pool of acid, then take the exit on the left.
  11. Next, continue heading to the left, jump towards the next platform below on the left, drop down the gap where the Knight will encounter a Fungified Husk, head to the left where the Knight will encounter another Fungoon and a Husk Hornehead, continue to the left, jump up the platform near the end of the path, jump up through the opening above where the Knight will encounter another Fungoon, head to the left where the Knight will encounter two Funglings, drop down the gap where there will be a piece of paper which means that Cornifer is nearby, then take the exit in the middle below.
  12. Then, head to the left, drop down the gap, head to the bottom using the small platforms, head to the right, drop down the gap, head to the left through a very narrow pathway, and, finally, at the end of the path the Knight will find Cornifer!

Now that the Knight has found Cornifer, the Knight can now purchase the map of Fungal Wastes for only 75 Geo. After that, the Knight can now navigate the Fungal Wastes area better!
