Mantis Village in Hollow Knight

The Mantis Village is a sub-area that the Knight can find in the southern part of the Fungal Wastes area. This village is the home of the Mantis Tribe. They are a tribe of mantises that could withstand the Infection.

According to in-game lore, the Mantis Tribe has a long history. They even date back to the founding of the kingdom of Hallownest. The village’s perimeter is guarded with beast heads mounted on poles to prevent intruders and wanderers. Because the mantises rejected the technology from the Pale King, they built their structures out of sinew and bone.

In the Mantis Village, the Knight will only encounter two enemies: the Mantis Warriors and the Mantis Youths. However, on the southern part of the Mantis Village, the Knight will run into the Mantis Lords. They are an optional boss that the Knight can take on in the game.

The Mantis Warriors and Mantis Youths will attack the Knight when the Knight is in the area. After the Knight defeats the Mantis Lords, the Warriors and Mantis Youths will no longer attack the Knight. If the Knight attacks them still, however, they will also fight back.

The Knight can also get a few remarkable items in the Mantis Village. Among these are 10 Geo Deposits, one Geo Chest, one Hallownest Seal, a Lifeblood Cocoon with two Lifeseeds, the Mark of Pride Charm, and the very useful Mantis Claw ability. However, it is important to note that the Knight must first defeat the Mantis Lords to acquire the Mark of Pride Charm.

How to Get to Mantis Village in Hollow Knight

The Knight can get to the Mantis Village from two locations:

1. From Forgotten Crossroads

One of the ways that the Knight can reach the Mantis Village is from the north of Fungal Wastes. This method is from the Forgotten Crossroads.

Requirements

Before proceeding to the Mantis Village, the Knight must learn one unique ability. This is the Mothwing Cloak ability. This ability allows the Knight to dash forward horizontally for a short distance. After defeating Hornet in the Greenpath area, the Knight obtains this ability.

It is also crucial to mention that the player should be skilled at nail-bouncing. On the path to the Mantis Village, the Knight will have to Nail-bounce on a few purple mushrooms.

Enemies

On their way to the Mantis Village, the Knight will encounter numerous enemies. The Knight will specifically face Vengeflies, Goams, an Aspid Hunter, Fungoons, Shrumal Warriors, Shrumelings, Sports, a Fungified Husk, Amblooms, Mantis Youths, and Mantis Warriors.

Path to the Mantis Village

The Knight has to do the following to reach the Mantis Village:

  1. Proceed to the right from the Bench in the Forgotten Crossroads Stag Station to exit the room. Drop down the platforms to the right and proceed to the exit downwards. Head down the small platform on the left, then head to the ledge on the left below and exit on the left.
  2. Then, on the left, jump up the high platform. Wait for the Goam on the left to retract before dropping down to the safe spot on the platform. Wait for the next Goam to get underground on the left and swiftly jump to the next platform. Continue following the path after another Goam retracts. The Knight will encounter two Vengeflies to the left. Exit the room on the left at the end of the path.
