This guide will unravel how to enter the Tower of Love in Hollow Knight. We will provide the knowledge and insights to embark on this captivating journey.
The Tower of Love in Hollow Knight
The Tower of Love is a sub-area in the easternmost part of the City of Tears. In this sub-area, the Knight can find and battle the Collector. This hidden boss is a Void who enjoys capturing and storing creatures in glass jars.
According to in-game lore, the Collector is interested in preserving other creatures. It captured the Grubs from their colony in the Forgotten Crossroads and then mapped where it stored them across Hallownest. Despite its focus on Grubs, the Collector only has three in its tower. Also, the Collector is linked to the prior owner of the key to the tower, who was a Hallownest aristocrat bug.
In the Tower of Love, the only remarkable things that the Knight finds are three Grubs and the Collector’s Map. The latter is an item that labels every single (all 46) Grub on any map that the Knight has purchased. The Knight must first eliminate the Collector to release the Grubs and retrieve the Collector’s Map.
In addition to the Collector, the Knight will face a few more foes in the vicinity. The Knight will encounter Baldurs, Vengeflies, and Aspid Hunters in particular.
How to Get into the Tower of Love in Hollow Knight
Before entering the Tower of Love, the Knight must get the Love Key to unlock and enter the area.
The Love Key
The sole purpose of the Love Key is to open the door to the Tower of Love. The Knight can find this item near the southeasternmost part of the Queen’s Gardens area. A corpse holds the Love key at the end of the room.
Requirements
Before the Knight can go to the Queen’s Gardens and find the Love Key, the Knight must have a few abilities. The first requirement is Isma’s Tear ability. This ability enables the Knight to swim in acid pools without getting damaged. The next requirement is the Mantis Claw ability. This ability enables the Knight to stick to vertical surfaces and jump off them.
Lastly, the Knight must also have the Mothwing Cloak ability. This ability allows the Knight to execute a dash forward. Although not essential, it would be advantageous if the Knight had the Monarch Wings ability. This allows the Knight to perform another jump in mid-air.
Enemies
The Knight will face a variety of enemies in the Queen’s Gardens. On the path to the Love Key, the Knight will run into the following enemies: Oomas, Uomas, Spiny Husks, Fool Eaters, Mossflies, Mantis Petras, and Mantis Traitors.
Path to the Love Key
The Knight must do the following to find the Love Key in the Queen’s Gardens:
- Start from the Queen’s Station Stagway Bench. From there, take the right exit, head up the platforms to the top, and exit the room on the left.
- The Knight has made his way to Fog Canyon. The Knight will come across several Uomas and Oomas in this area. Attacking Oomas will cause its shell to pop, and its orange center will pursue the Knight and explode. Jump up the platforms to head up the room. Keep to the left side of the room as you ascend, and take the next exit on the left. This exit is in the middle of the room.
- Then, proceed to the left, where an acid pool and a thorny wall exist. Drop into the acid pool and swim below the thorn wall to the left (using the Isma’s Tear ability). Head up to the next platform, where there is a gate. This part of the room is now filled with greenery. Continue to the left, jump up the platforms, and exit the room on the left.
- The Knight is now in the Queen’s Gardens! Go to the left, where the Knight will come across a Spiny Husk. Drop down a few platforms where the Knight will come across a Mossfly. Keep going to the left, where the Knight will come across two Mossflies, a Spiny Husk, and another separate Spiny Husk.
- As the Knight moves to the left, you’ll notice that a section of the floor is covered with thorny vines. Jump over the thorns using the Monarch Wings or Mothwing Cloak abilities. Then, move to the left and exit the room on the left.
- Next, keep going to the left, where the Knight will come across a Mantis Petra. Fall on the gap on the left and go down using the small dropping platforms. Here, the Knight will face another Mantis Petra and two Mossflies. Ensure not to fall to the thorny vines at the bottom of the room. Go to the exit on the bottom right of the room.
- Afterward, proceed to the right, where various stable and dropping platforms have thorny vines on the bottom. While following this path, the path back and forth will eventually close. To continue, the Knight must eliminate the foes in the room. The Knight will have to beat three Mantis Petras.
- After eliminating all of the Mantis Petras, proceed to the right and drop down the gap. Proceed to the right, go down another gap with a closed exit on the right, and proceed to the left. Fall the gap to a dropping platform and jump towards the next dropping platform on the left. Ensure not to get hit by the thorns on the ceiling and below the floor. Dash to the safe ground on the left. Here, the Knight will come across a Fool Eater.
- Next, dash to the next lowering platform on the left. Jump and dash to the safe platform on the left. Here, the Knight will come across another Fool Eater. Jump down the shaft on the left, where another Fool Eater is at the bottom.
- Then, jump and dash to the dropping platform on the right. Jump, then dash to the safe ground on the right, where the Knight will encounter a Mantis, Petra. Then, jump and dash again to the dropping platform on the right. Jump and dash again to the platform on the right with a lever. Hit the lever to unlock the way to the exit above.
- Then, jump and dash to the platform on the right. Jump up the right wall and climb the shaft using the Mantis Claw ability. At the top on the left, the wall is being held up by wooden barriers. Attack the wooden fence multiple times to break it and reveal a path. Head up to the platform above and exit the room on the right.
- After that, move to the right and dash across the gap. Keep going to the right and head down the gap. Continue down using the dropping platforms. Here, the Knight will run into two Mossflies. Exit the room on the right.
- Next, go to the right, where the Knight will find a Mossfly. Drop down the small platform below on the right, where there is another Mossfly. Head down another small platform below on the left, where the Knight comes across another Mossfly. Fall the small platform below on the right and jump to the platform on the right. Here, the Knight will find a Geo Deposit.
- Following that, jump up the elevated platform on the right. Go to the right, then drop and swim in the acid pool to the right through the shallow ceiling. Head up the platform and go to the right. Here, the Knight will run into two Mantis Traitors.
- Finally, proceed to the right, where the Knight will uncover a corpse holding a glowing item. When the Knight inspects the glowing object, the Knight will acquire the Love Key!
Finally, the Tower of Love
The Knight can enter the Tower of Love after obtaining the Love Key from the Queen’s Gardens. As previously stated, the Tower of Love is a sub-area in the easternmost region of the City of Tears. However, this area is initially accessed through the Kingdom’s Edge.
Requirements
Aside from the Love Key, the Knight must have a few abilities to reach the Tower of Love. First is the Mantis Claw ability. This enables the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them. Another is the Mothwing Cloak ability. This allows the Knight to execute a horizontal dash. Though not required, it is recommended to have Isma’s Tear ability. This allows the Knight to swim in pools of acid. The Monarch Wings ability is also recommended, which enables the Knight to perform a secondary jump in mid-air.
Enemies
The Knight will face several enemies in the City of Tears and Kingdom’s Edge. On the route to the Tower of Love, the Knight will meet the following enemies: a Husk Hornhead, a Husk Dandy, a Gluttonous Husk, Vengeflies, Belflies, Booflies, Hoppers, and Primal Aspids.
Path to the Tower of Love
These are what the Knight must perform to reach the Tower of Love:
- Begin at the Bench at the King’s Station Stagway Station. Exit the room on the left, and the Knight will be in a room with a Husk Hornead, a Husk Dandy, and a Gluttonous Husk. Fall to the bottom of the room and exit the room on the right with another Stagway sign.
- Upon entering, the Knight will find a shattered Bench, a flooded Stagway Station, and two Vengeflies. Drop into the water and continue swimming to the right, where the Knight will enter a secret path.
- When you first come in, the Knight will be attacked by a dive-bombing Belfly. Evade or hide beneath an elevated platform to prevent damage. Proceed up the platform, then to the right. Here, the Knight will come across two separate Belflies. Exit the room at the end of the pathway.
- The Knight will be on the center cliff of Kingdom’s Edge as soon as they enter! If the Knight has not learned Isma’s Tear ability, the Knight must take the exit on the bottom right of the room, then the next exit that leads up, and then continue heading upwards. If the Knight can learn Isma’s Tear ability, go to the right from the entrance to Kingdom’s Edge’s central cliff, where the Knight will face a Boofly, and follow the path up until you reach the next ledge and exit the room on the right. Keep going to the right and drop down the acid pool. Swim to the right through the narrow opening.
- Then, head up towards the small platform and go upwards of the room using the ledges and platforms. Here, the Knight will encounter a Primal Aspid, a Boofly, another Primal Aspid, another Boofly, and another Primal Aspid. Exit the room on the left.
- The Knight will be back on the central cliff, although higher than previously. Go to the left, where the Knight will encounter a Hopper and a Boofly. Jump to the small platform below on the left. Here, the Knight will run into a Primal Aspid and a Belfly. Head to the small platform below on the left, then jump to the small platform on the left, then jump to another small platform on the left, then jump to the small platform on the left once more. Head to the platform on the left, where the Knight will run into another Belfly.
- Following that, proceed to the left and descend the platform. Go down the shaft on the left, where the Knight will come across another Hopper. Take the enormous exit on the left.
- Finally, the Knight has arrived at the Tower of Love’s entryway! Go to the left and jump over the gap. Here, the Knight will find a large door. Inspect the locked door and select “Yes” on the prompt to use the Love Key. After that, the Knight can now enter the Tower of Love!
It is recommended to unlock the shortcut by going down the previous shaft before the door to enter the Tower of Love. There, the Knight must strike the switch on the right side near the bottom of the area. Through this, the Knight does not need to follow the above steps. Simply use the path above before entering Kingdom’s Edge from King’s Station. It should be noted, however, that this route requires the Knight to have the Mantis Claw ability.
Now that the Knight knows how to get to the Tower of Love, they can locate and fight the Collector. After that, the Knight can also locate and save three Grubs and acquire the Collector’s Map!
