Hollow Knight: All Mister Mushroom Locations

Team Cherry’s Metroidvania action-adventure game, Hollow Knight, follows the journey of a nameless warrior called the Knight as he travels through Hallownest, now a kingdom in ruins because of a supernatural disease. As the Knight journeys through Hallownest, he will encounter various characters that will help fully unravel the story in the game. One of these characters is a talking mushroom named Mister Mushroom.

Mister Mushroom, who will appear after the Knight has defeated all three Dreamers, can be heard babbling from a distance and speaking gibberish once the Knight finds and talks to him. To understand what Mister Mushroom is saying, the Knight must first equip the Spore Shroom Charm, head back to Mister Mushroom, strike him once so that he will face forward, and talk to him. This must be done so that Mister Mushroom leaves and goes to a different location.

After finding Mister Mushroom throughout Hollownest, a secret cutscene will be unlocked after beating the game.

To get a hint of Mister Mushroom’s locations, there is a glowing glyph called Riddle Tablet found inside a secret room in the southeastern part of Kingdom’s Edge that, if the Knight reads it with the Spore Shroom Charm equipped, will give clues as to where the Knight can find Mister Mushroom, who the Riddle Tablet refers to as Master Herald. But, to save you some time trying to solve the riddles of the Riddle Tablet (and you are also reading a guide about it anyway), it would be better to tell you where the Knight can find Mister Mushroom: in Fungal Wastes, in Kingdom’s Edge, in Deepnest, in Howling Cliffs, in Ancient Basin, in Fog Canyon, and King’s Pass.

In this guide, the player will learn to find Mister Mushroom all over Hallownest!

Fungal Wastes

A screenshot of one of Mister Mushroom's locations

As mentioned above, the Knight must first defeat all three Dreamers, found in the Teacher’s Archives in Fog Canyon, in the Watcher’s Spire in the City of Tears, and the Beast’s Den in Deepnest, before the Knight can start finding Mister Mushroom.

The first location where the Knight can find Mister Mushroom is in Fungal Wastes, and Mister Mushroom can be found inside a room that can be accessed through a narrow path in the western part of the middle of Fungal Wastes.

The Knight will encounter many enemies in Fungal Wastes, but the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to Mister Mushroom: a Fungoon and two Funglings.

Before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in Fungal Wastes, it is recommended that the Knight has the Mothwing Cloak ability, which allows the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forward. And the Monarch Wings ability allows the Knight to perform a double jump in mid-air. Finding Mister Mushroom in Fungal Wastes will be no challenge with these abilities.

To find Mister Mushroom in Fungal Wastes, this is what the Knight must do:

  1. Starting from the Bench in the Queen’s Station Stagway Station, take the exit on the right to leave the room, jump up the small platforms on the left side of the middle part of the room, then take the exit on the top right.
  2. Next, the Knight has now arrived in the Fungal Wastes area. Head to the right, jump across the gap with a pool of acid, head to the right where the Knight will encounter a Fungoon, jump across the gap, head to the right where the Knight will encounter two Funglings, drop down the gap, then take the exit in the middle below.
  3. Then, head to the left, drop down the gap, head to the bottom using the small platforms, head to the right, drop down the gap, head to the left through a very narrow pathway, and, finally, at the end of the path the Knight will find Mister Mushroom!

After talking to Mister Mushroom with the help of the Spore Shroom charm, Mister Mushroom will leave and proceed to his next location, Kingdom’s Edge!

Kingdom’s Edge

A screenshot of one of Mister Mushroom's locations

As mentioned above, before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in Kingdom’s Edge, the Knight must first find Mister Mushroom in Fungal Wastes.

The second location where the Knight can find Mister Mushroom is in Kingdom’s Edge, and Mister Mushroom can be found inside an opening on the wall on the left of a shaft in the southwestern part of Kingdom’s Edge.

The Knight will encounter lots of various enemies in Kingdom’s Edge. Still, the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to Mister Mushroom: A Husk Hornhead, a Husk Dandy, a Gluttonous Husk, Vengeflies, Belflies, Booflies, and Hivelings.

Before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in the area, the Knight must purchase the Lumafly Lantern from Sly in Dirtmouth to light up very dark rooms. Additionally, it is recommended that the Knight has the Mantis Claw ability, which allows the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them, the Mothwing Cloak ability, which allows the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forward, and the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a double jump in mid-air. Finding Mister Mushroom in Kingdom’s Edge will be no challenge with this item and these abilities.

To find Mister Mushroom in Kingdom’s Edge, this is what the Knight must do:

  1. Starting from the Bench in the King’s Station Stagway Station, take the exit to the left; the Knight will be in a room where they will encounter a Husk Hornead, a Husk Dandy, and a Gluttonous Husk, drop to the bottom, and take the exit on the right which will have another Stagway sign.
  2. Upon entering, the Knight will see a broken Bench in half, a flooded Stagway Station, and two Vengeflies. Kill both Vengeflies and drop down on the water.
  3. Next, keep swimming to the right, where the Knight will go through a hidden passageway.
  4. Upon entering, you will immediately encounter a dive-bombing Belfly, so dodge or hide below an elevated platform to avoid being damaged.
  5. Then, jump up the platform, head to the right, where the Knight will encounter two separate Belflies, and take the exit at the end of the path.
  6. Upon entering, the Knight will be on the central cliff of Kingdom’s Edge! Head to the right, where the Knight will encounter a Boofly above, drop down on the gap on the right, and head down the room using the small platforms where the Knight will encounter four more Booflies (be careful not to fall to the pool of acid at the bottom), just before the pool of acid at the bottom head to the path on the left, then take the exit.
  7. After that, head to the left, jump across the gap where the Knight will encounter two Hivelings, continue to the left where the Knight will encounter three more Hivelings above a pool of acid, jump across the pool of acid and towards the platform above on the left, continue to the left, drop down the next gap where the Knight will encounter another Hiveling, at the bottom head to the left, then take the next exit that leads below.
  8. Next, drop down the small platform on the right, where the Knight will encounter a Boofly; drop down the next platform below on the right, where the Knight will encounter two more Hivelings. Jump towards the small platform on the left, where the Knight will encounter another Boofly, and drop down the slightly wide platform below it on the left, where the Knight will start to hear Mister Mushroom babbling, which means he is nearby.
  9. Then, drop down on the small platform below it on the right where the Knight will encounter another Boofly, drop down the next small platform below on the left where the Knight will encounter another Boofly, and jump towards the opening on the wall on the left.
  10. Finally, head to the left, and the Knight will find Mister Mushroom!

After talking to Mister Mushroom with the help of the Spore Shroom charm, Mister Mushroom will leave and proceed to his next location, Deepnest!

Deepnest

A screenshot of one of Mister Mushroom's locations

As mentioned above, before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in Deepnest, the Knight must first find Mister Mushroom in Fungal Wastes and Kingdom’s Edge.

The third location where the Knight can find Mister Mushroom is in Deepnest, and Mister Mushroom can be found in the bottom left corner of a room near the middle of Deepnest.

The Knight will encounter lots of various enemies in Deepnest. Still, the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to Mister Mushroom: Garpedes, Wandering Husks, Husk Hornheads, Deephunters, Husk Bullies, and Galien, who is a Warrior Dream boss. Fortunately, the Knight does not have to defeat Galien to find Mister Mushroom in the area.

Before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in the area, it is required that the Knight has the Mantis Claw ability, which allows the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them, and the Mothwing Cloak ability, which allows the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forward. The Knight must also purchase the Lumafly Lantern from Sly in Dirtmouth to light up dark rooms. Although not required, it would help if the Knight has the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a double jump in mid-air. Finding Mister Mushroom in Deepnest will be no challenge with this item and these abilities.

To find Mister Mushroom in Deepnest, this is what the Knight must do:

  1. Starting from the Bench inside the Tram in the southeast of Deepnest, exit the Tram, head to the left, and take the exit.
  2. The Knight is now in Deepnest and will be in a room that looks like a maze filled with Garpedes. Head slightly to the left, wait for the Garpede to pass through on the path above, quickly jump to the platform above, head to the right, then jump to the next platform above.
  3. Next, head to the left, wait for the Garpede above to pass through, jump to the platform above, run to the left, and drop down on the next path downwards.
  4. After that, head slightly to the left, wait for the Garpede below to pass through, quickly drop down, run to the right, and drop down on the next path downwards.
  5. Then, head to the left, jump across the spikes with the help of the Monarch Wings or the Mothwing Cloak ability, and take the exit on the left.
  6. Next, continue heading to the left, where the Knight will find a Bench next to a hot spring. Sit on the Bench to heal and save your progress, then stand in the hot spring to regenerate the Knight’s Soul. After that, continue heading to the left and take the exit.
  7. Then, head to the left, jump up the platform where the Knight will encounter a Wandering Husk, jump up the small platform above the spikes, jump up the platform above on the right where the Knight will encounter a Husk Hornhead, head to the path on the right, then jump up the next platform at the end of the path where the Knight will encounter a Deephunter.
  8. After that, head to the left, head up the wall on the left with the help of the Mantis Claw ability, where the Knight will encounter another Husk Hornhead and another Deephunter. Head to the left, where the Knight will encounter a Husk Bully and another Deephunter above on the ceiling; at the end of the path, heads up the shaft with the help of the Mantis Claw ability, then take the exit on the left at the top.
  9. Next, head to the left, drop down three gaps, drop down the next gap, and dash to the path on the left with the help of the Mothwing Cloak ability so that the Knight will fall on the spikes below (be careful not to hit the spikes above the path), head to the left, jump, and dash with the help of the Mothwing Cloak ability towards the platform above on the left, drop down the platform, jump across the spikes, head to the left where the Knight will encounter another Deephunter, with the help of the Mantis Claw ability head up the wall on the left of the big opening of where the Deephunter was found, head to the right where the Knight will encounter two Husk Bullies and another Husk Hornhead, head up the next shaft with the help of the Mantis Claw ability, head to the right, then take the next exit above.
  10. Then, head to the left, jump across the spikes and towards the wall on the left, head up the wall with the help of the Mantis Claw ability where the Knight will encounter two separate Deephunters, then at the top, take the exit on the left.
  11. After that, head to the left, jump across the gap, drop down the platforms, and jump up the next platform to continue heading to the left, where the Knight will find the corpse of Galien, who is a Warrior Dream boss, and, at the end of the path, the Knight will find Mister Mushroom!

After talking to Mister Mushroom with the help of the Spore Shroom charm, Mister Mushroom will leave and proceed to his next location, Howling Cliffs!

Howling Cliffs

A screenshot of one of Mister Mushroom's locations

As mentioned above, before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in Howling Cliffs, the Knight must first find Mister Mushroom in Fungal Wastes, Kingdom’s Edge, and Deepnest.

The fourth location where the Knight can find Mister Mushroom is in Howling Cliffs, and Mister Mushroom can be found on the right side of Nailmaster Mato inside his hut at the top of Howling Cliffs.

The Knight will encounter various enemies in Howling Cliffs, but the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to Mister Mushroom: Crawlids, Tiktiks, and Vengeflies.

Before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in the area, it is required that the Knight has the Mantis Claw ability, which allows the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them, and the Mothwing Cloak ability, which allows the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forward, or the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a secondary jump in mid-air. The Knight must also purchase the Lumafly Lantern from Sly in Dirtmouth to light up dark rooms. Finding Mister Mushroom in Howling Cliffs will be no challenge with this item and these abilities.

To find Mister Mushroom in Howling Cliffs, this is what the Knight must do (this is assuming that this is the player’s first time heading to Howling Cliffs):

  1. From the bench in the middle of Dirtmouth, head to the left, then, upon reaching the wall, jump and climb up the wall with the help of the Mantis Claw’s ability. At the top of the wall, use the Mothwing Cloak ability to dash towards the platform or the Monarch Wings ability to perform a secondary jump towards the next platform, then take the entrance on the left.
  2. Upon entering the room, the Knight is back in the King’s Pass area, the first area in the game. Head to the left, drop down on the next gap, head to the right, drop down to the gap, continue dropping down to the platforms below the left, and head to the bottom on the right side of the spikes.
  3. Next, continue to the right of what looks like a wall, and the Knight will be in a hidden part of the area. Continue to the right, jump over the spikes with the help of the Monarch Wings ability to double jump or the Mothwing Cloak ability to dash forwards in mid-air, and drop down on the gap where the Knight will start using the Lumafly Lantern to light up the area, and head to the left where you will find a Geo Chest which, after hitting it, will give off the Fury of the Fallen charm and not Geos.
  4. After that, head to the left, then drop on the narrow gap, continue to the left where the Knight will encounter a Crawlid, continue to head and jump on the platform on the left where the Knight will encounter another Crawlid, jump across the gap, and head to the left until the Knight reaches a large area.
  5. Next, continue to the left of what looks like the end of the path, and the Knight will be in a hidden part of the area with a Geo Deposit. Head up the narrow shaft with the help of the Mantis Claw ability (watch out for the spikes!), then take the exit at the top.
  6. Then, head to the next platform above with the help of the Mantis Claw ability to cling to the wall on the right and jump up, then continue to the left, where you will find a wooden structure holding up a wall on the other side. Strike the wooden structure several times to destroy it and open the path.
  7. After that, continue to the left and up the platforms, where the Knight will encounter another Crawlid. The Knight has now arrived in Howling Cliffs! Continue to the left, where the Knight will encounter another Crawlid, then drop down on the gap and head to the bottom of this area.
  8. At the bottom, a narrow path leads to the right on the right side of the spikes. Head to the right, and you will see an entrance to a house. Enter the house, and you will see a Bench (this is also the only Bench in Howling Cliffs). Sit on the Bench to heal and save your progress.
  9. After that, head to the right, and, finally, just ahead of Nailmaster Mato, you will find Mister Mushroom!

After talking to Mister Mushroom with the help of the Spore Shroom charm, Mister Mushroom will leave and proceed to his next location, which is in Ancient Basin!

Ancient Basin

A screenshot of one of Mister Mushroom's locations

As mentioned above, before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in Ancient Basin, the Knight must first find Mister Mushroom in Fungal Wastes, Kingdom’s Edge, Deepnest, and Howling Cliffs.

The fifth location where the Knight can find Mister Mushroom is in Ancient Basin, and Mister Mushroom can be found near a wall on the western side of Ancient Basin.

The Knight will encounter various enemies in Ancient Basin. Still, the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to Mister Mushroom: Shadow Creepers and the Broken Vessel. Fortunately, you have probably already beaten the Broken Vessel this late in the game, as this is also the path to the Monarch Wings ability.

Before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in the area, it is required that the Knight has the Crystal Heart ability, allowing the Knight to fly and dash continuously and horizontally until the Knight hits a wall, hits an enemy that was not killed by the hit, or if the player intentionally stops the dash.

Although not required, it will also help if the Knight has the Mantis Claw ability, allowing the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them; the Mothwing Cloak ability, allowing the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forward; and the Monarch Wings ability, allowing the Knight to perform a secondary jump in mid-air. Finding Mister Mushroom in Ancient Basin will be no challenge with these abilities.

To find Mister Mushroom in Ancient Basin, this is what the Knight must do:

  1. From Deepnest or Kingdom’s Edge, enter the Tram and interact with the glowing button in the rightmost (or in the leftmost if you start from Kingdom’s Edge) part of the Tram to go to the Ancient Basin.
  2. Next, exit the Tram, head to the left, and drop down the exit on the floor.
  3. Then, drop down from the small platform, head to the left, jump across the gap towards the platform below on the left, continue heading to the left, and 4drop down the next shaft where the Knight will encounter a Shadow Creeper on the wall on the left, at the bottom the Knight will encounter another Shadow Creeper, head to the left, drop down the next gap, continue heading left upon landing, drop down the next shaft where the Knight will encounter another Shadow Creeper on the wall on the left, then take the exit on the right upon landing.
  4. Next, head to the left and jump up the platform where there is a Bench. Sit on the Bench to heal the Knight and save your progress.
  5. After that, head to the left, where there will be a big opening with spikes on the bottom and the ceiling; use the Crystal Heart ability to dash and fly to the right, and cancel the Crystal Heart ability by pressing the assigned JUMP button once the Knight is on the long platform near the end of the path so that the Knight will not hit the spikes on the wall, head to the left, jump up the platform above the spikes, then take the exit on the left.
  6. Next, head to the left, jump across the gap where the Knight will encounter another Shadow Creeper, continue heading to the left, jump up the next platform where the Knight will encounter another Shadow Creeper, drop down the platform on the left, continue heading to the left, jump across another gap, continue heading to the left where the Knight will be in a large area where the Broken Vessel was fought and defeated, then take the exit on the left.
  7. Then, head to the left and drop down the next gap, where the Knight can start hearing the babbles of Mister Mushroom, which means that he is nearby. Drop down the gap on the left, drop down another gap on the left, and, finally, the Knight will find Mister Mushroom near the wall on the right!

After talking to Mister Mushroom with the help of the Spore Shroom charm, Mister Mushroom will leave and proceed to his next location, Fog Canyon!

Fog Canyon

A screenshot of one of Mister Mushroom's locations

As mentioned above, before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in Fog Canyon, the Knight must first find Mister Mushroom in Fungal Wastes, Kingdom’s Edge, Deepnest, Howling Cliffs, and Ancient Basin.

The sixth location where the Knight can find Mister Mushroom is in Fog Canyon, and Mister Mushroom can be found in the room below the entrance to the Overgrown Mound on the western side of the Fog Canyon.

The Knight will encounter lots of various enemies in Fog Canyon, but the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to Mister Mushroom: Oomas, Uomas, and Mossflies

Before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in the area, it is required that the Knight has the Shade Cloak ability (the upgrade to the Mothwing Cloak ability), allowing the Knight to dash through enemies and their attacks as well as Shade Gates. Although not required, it will also help if the Knight has the Mantis Claw ability, allowing the Knight to cling to walls and jump off them.

The Monarch Wings ability allows the Knight to perform a secondary jump in mid-air, and the Isma’s Tear ability allows the Knight to swim in pools of acid without taking any damage. Finding Mister Mushroom in Fog Canyon will be no challenge with these abilities.

To find Mister Mushroom in Fog Canyon, this is what the Knight must do:

  1. Starting from the Queen’s Station Stagway Bench, take the exit on the right, jump up the platforms, head to the top, and take the exit on the left.
  2. The Knight has now arrived in Fog Canyon. In this room, the Knight will encounter a lot of Uomas and Oomas. Be careful when attacking Oomas; it will pop its shell, and its orange core will explode on the Knight. Head to the very top of the room and take the exit on the left.
  3. Next, head to the left, jump across the gap with a pool of acid where the Knight will encounter an Ooma, jump across another gap with a pool of acid where the Knight will encounter another Ooma, and jump towards the small platform above on the left where the Knight will encounter an Uoma, jump up the ledge on the left, jump up the small platform above on the right, jump up another platform above on the right where the Knight will encounter another Ooma, jump up towards the platform above on the left, head up the platforms on the left, then take the exit on the left.
  4. In this next room, the Knight will encounter a lot of Charged Lumaflies and a pool of acid below. Head to the left, wait for the Charged Lumaflies to be inactive, jump across the gap towards a small platform, wait for the next Charged Lumaflies above on the left to be inactive, jump up the small platform on the left, then drop down the platform below on the left, wait for the Charged Lumaflies above on the left to be inactive, jump up the small platform above on the left, jump up another small platform above, wait for the Charged Lumaflies above on the left to be inactive, jump up the platform above on the left at the top of the thorns, then drop down the small platform below on the left.
  5. After that, drop down the platform below, wait for the Charged Lumafly on the left to be inactive, quickly jump and cross the thorns with the help of the Monarch Wings ability or the Mothwing Cloak ability, head slightly to the left, wait for the next Charged Lumafly on the left to be inactive, jump towards the small platform below on the left, wait for the next Charged Lumaflies above on the left to be inactive, quickly jump up the small platform above on the left then jump towards the slightly long platform below on the left, wait for the final Charged Lumaflies on the left to be inactive, quickly jump towards the next platform on the left, head to the left, then take the exit. It is worth noting that with Isma’s Tear ability, the Knight can swim in the acid below to pass through all the Charged Lumaflies and spikes without damage.
  6. Next, head to the left, drop down the platforms where the Knight will encounter a Mossfly, jump towards the small platform below on the left, drop down the smaller platform on the left where the Knight will encounter another Mossfly, drop down the to the bottom platform where a metal gate blocks the path on the right. A Shade Gate blocks the path on the left, heads to the left, and passes through the Shade Gate with the help of the Shade Cloak ability, where the Knight will start hearing the babbles of Mister Mushroom, which means that he is nearby.
  7. Finally, drop down the gap on the left, jump up the ledge on the left, jump up the platform on the left, head to the left, and the Knight will find Mister Mushroom!

After talking to Mister Mushroom with the help of the Spore Shroom charm, Mister Mushroom will leave and proceed to his next location, which is in King’s Pass!

King’s Pass

A screenshot of one of Mister Mushroom's locations

As mentioned above, before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in King’s Pass, the Knight must first find Mister Mushroom in Fungal Wastes, Kingdom’s Edge, Deepnest, Howling Cliffs, Ancient Basin, and Fog Canyon.

The seventh and last location where the Knight can find Mister Mushroom is in King’s Pass, and Mister Mushroom can be found in the middle of the room in the southwesternmost part of King’s Pass, which is in the west of Dirtmouth.

The Knight will encounter many enemies in King’s Pass, but the Knight will specifically only encounter a Crawlid on the way to Mister Mushroom.

Before the Knight can find Mister Mushroom in the area, it is required that the Knight has the Mantis Claw ability, allowing the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them. The Mothwing Cloak ability allows the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forward, or the Monarch Wings ability allows the Knight to perform a secondary jump in mid-air. The Knight must also purchase the Lumafly Lantern from Sly in Dirtmouth to light up dark rooms. Finding Mister Mushroom in King’s Pass will be no challenge with these abilities.

To find Mister Mushroom in King’s Pass, this is what the Knight must do (this is assuming that this is the player’s first time heading to Howling Cliffs):

  4. After that, head to the left, then drop on the narrow gap, continue to the left where the Knight will encounter a Crawlid, continue to head and jump on the platform on the left where the Knight will encounter another Crawlid, jump across the gap, and head to the left (where the Knight will eventually hear the babbles of Mister Mushroom which means that he is nearby) until the Knight reaches a large area.
  5. Finally, head to the middle of the large area, and the Knight will find Mister Mushroom!

Now that the Knight has found Mister Mushroom’s seventh and final location, the Knight can strike him once so that he will face forward and talk to him. It will seem like Mister Mushroom is talking to someone else or himself at first, but then he will finally acknowledge the Knight and say that the Knight has been following him around, and he hopes that his travels have not confused or distracted the Knight.

He will then say that a wandering journey still has meaning as the journey is where people find purpose, and the stops in the middle are lovely things from transcendent plateaus to vast ancient kingdoms. Finally, Mister Mushroom will say that his duties are finished and bid goodbye to the Knight. After that, he will leave and fly away.

Now that the Knight has found all of Mister Mushroom’s locations all over Hallownest, all the Knight has to do next is to beat the main story of the game, and a secret cutscene will play just after the credits along with unlocking the Passing of the Age Achievement.
