I’m not the biggest fan of Destiny 2‘s Trace Rifles. All of them are Exotics, and most of them are pretty unremarkable. One, however, is not boring. It’s the one that creates a Void orb when you kill and enemy that you can pick up and dunk to kill even more enemies. That’s right: I’m talking about Ruinous Effigy, by far the coolest Exotic Trace Rifle in the game. If you’re wondering how to get Ruinous Effigy, the process isn’t quite as complicated as it used to be. Let’s dive into how you can pick up the gun in the present day.

How to get Ruinous Effigy in Destiny 2

Ruinous Effigy was a Quest weapon from Season of Arrivals

Way back in 2020 before the Beyond Light expansion dropped, there was the Season known as Arrivals. And during that Season, Ruinous Effigy made an appearance as a weaponed obtained via an Exotic Quest. Now, of course, Season of Arrivals is gone, as is the content that it featured. So if you’re trying to do that quest, well — you can’t. It’s not possible.

Fortunately, there is a way for you to get Ruinous Effigy if you really want it. And since you’re here, I presume you do. So read on and you’ll find out where the gun now sits in the Destiny universe, and what you need in order to pick it up.

Ruinous Effigy can be purchased at the Monument to Lost Lights

Monument to Lost Lights

The Monument to Lost Lights is where you get all the weapons you no longer have access to via their original channels. If a piece of content isn’t in the game now, whether by the Season ending or because the Destiny Content Vault murdered it, you’ll find Exotics from that particular content phase in the Monument. This is where you’ll find Ruinous Effigy. You can buy it, but you’ll need a few things first:

Once you have all that prepared, head to the Monument and open the section called “Shadowkeep Exotics.” Look nine spots over from the left, and you’ll see Ruinous Effigy. Hover over it, press the button to buy, and you’ve got yourself the game’s best Exotic Trace Rifle (to me, anyway).

And that’s how to get Ruinous Effigy in Destiny 2

Ruinous Effigy is a whole lot of fun in Crucible. And I mean a LOT of fun. Imagine taking out an enemy, picking up the Void orb created from their disintegrated body, then using that to kill one or two of their teammates. Ultra satisfying. The best feeling. This perk works the same way in PvE, but you can kill most PvE enemies without trying all that hard, so it doesn’t feel as good. Take R.I. into PvP and you will not regret it. I promise.
