Link can wear different armor or clothes that give special effects in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Many different sets are available, one of which is the Phantom Set. This guide will teach you how to obtain the Phantom Set in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild!

How to Get the Phantom Set in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Some armors/clothes give special bonuses when Link wears the whole set. An example is the Climbing set, composed of the Climbing Bandana, Climbing Gear, and Climbing Boots, which will raise Link’s climbing speed but, as a set, will raise Link’s climbing jump stamina, especially when upgraded.

The Phantom Set

Before Link can obtain the Phantom Set, it is important to note that this armor set is only available if the player has purchased The Master Trials DLC.

The Phantom Set comprises the Phantom Helmet, the Phantom Armor, and the Phantom Greaves. Obtaining this set is part of the EX Treasure: Phantasma side quest in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This armor set is based on the Phantom armor from The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.

Wearing the Phantom set will grant Link a boost in attack. However, the player cannot enhance any of the items in the Phantom Set from the Great Fairy Fountains. Additionally, all of the items in the Phantom Set are not dyeable in the Kochi Dye Shop in Hateno Village.

Misko’s EX Journal

According to in-game lore, Hyrule’s royal family collected historically significant outfits. Some were phantasmal armor but were stolen by a bandit named Misko. Misko has a journal that tells the locations of the treasures.

Misko’s EX Journal, which can be found on top of a broken shelf in the southernmost building in the Outpost Ruins (slightly east of the Great Plateau Tower or west of the Bosh Kala Shrine), will give Link clues as to where each of the items in the Phantom Set can be found.

Misko’s EX Journal says fierce phantoms wear armor that even heroes fear. You can find this powerful set in the ruins of Hyrule Field. The journal will then give clues on where to find each item in the Phantom Set:

Phantom Helmet”…at a battleground, where brave souls tested their skill…”
Phantom Armor”…at ceremonial grounds where royal guards are honored…”
Phantom Greaves”… at the ruins where the soldiers of Hyrule gathered.”

All of these items and locations can be found around Hyrule Field. Here is where to find each item in the Phantom Set:

Phantom Helmet

The Phantom Set headwear, the Phantom Helmet, has a base defense of 8 and will boost Link’s attack once worn.

To find the Phantom Helmet, the clue in Misko’s journal is a battleground where people’s skills are tested. This refers to the Coliseum Ruins, slightly east of Outskirt Stable and Rota Ooh Shrine or southwest of Central Tower and Kaam Ya’tak Shrine.

It is important to note that the Coliseum Ruins are filled with many monsters on the upper levels and, the scariest of them all, a white Lynel in the middle of the Coliseum. Make sure to stock up on healing items, powerful weapons, and shields when taking on the Lynel. After all, as everybody knows, they can be very challenging.

If you don’t mind using one, Link can fire a single Ancient Arrow at the Lynel to defeat it instantly. If you’d rather not fight it, Link can wear a Lynel Mask so it won’t attack. You can purchase this mask from Kilton’s shop called Fang and Bone. The Lynel, however, will see through the disguise after some time and attack Link, so still, be cautious.

The chest to find the Phantom Helmet is stuck on the ground in the northeastern corner of the lowest floor of the Coliseum Ruins. To remove it from the ground, press and hold the up directional button, select the Magnesis Rune ability, press the L button to aim, aim at the chest, press the A button to activate Magnesis on it, then pull the chest out of the ground. Finally, open the chest to obtain the Phantom Helmet!

Phantom Armor

The Phantom set chest plate, the Phantom Armor, has a base defense of 8 and boosts Link’s attack when worn.

To find the Phantom Armor, the clue in Misko’s journal is a ceremonial ground where royal family guards are honored. This refers to the Sacred Ground Ruins northeast of the Central Tower or southeast of the Katah Chuki Shrine. It is worth mentioning that there are several Guardians around the Central Tower and the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins near Katah Chuki Shrine.

Upon arriving in the Sacred Ground Ruins, Link can find a chest underwater in the southeastern corner of the grounds. To get the chest, press and hold the up directional button, select the Magnesis Rune ability, press the L button to aim, aim at the chest, press the A button to activate Magnesis on it, then pull the chest out of the water. Finally, open the chest to get the Phantom Armor!

Phantom Greaves

The Phantom Suit leg armor, the Phantom Greaves, has a base defense of 8 and raises Link’s attack once worn.

To find the Phantom Greaves, the clue in Misko’s journal is a place where soldiers gathered. This refers to the Hyrule Garrison Ruins, slightly southeast of the Central Tower or northeast of Kaam Ya’tak Shrine. It is important to mention several Guardians are around Central Tower, and a single Guardian in Hyrule Garrison Ruins.

Upon arriving in the Hyrule Garrison Ruins, Link can find a chest stuck on the ground next to an inactive Guardian and a broken-down wall on the southeastern side of the ruins. To remove the chest from the ground, press and hold the up directional button, select the Magnesis Rune ability, press the L button to aim, aim at the chest, press the A button to activate Magnesis on it, and pull the chest out of the ground. Finally, open the chest to get the Phantom Greaves!

Final Thoughts

As each item in the Phantom Set has a Base Defense of 8, wearing it as a set will give Link 24 Defense, making the Phantom Set the most defensive DLC-exclusive set available.

Now that Link has the Phantom Set, he can use this armor set in pursuing the Breath of the Wild’s myriad of main quests, side quests, and shrine quests to get an Attack Up boost!
