George R.R. Martin may have given us the lore of Westeros, but now he’s teamed up with FromSoftware to deliver the story of their highly-anticipated game—Elden Ring. The game is set to launch on the 25th, and we have a new trailer to give the title that final hype push before it comes out.
Watch this:
Though the Dark Souls franchise is considered to be finished, a lot of fans consider Elden Ring to be its spiritual successor. It definitely has all the earmarks that make a Souls game “Soulslike” but this time around, we should expect it to be the golden standard for the genre when it comes to this new generation of consoles.
Going back to the lore though, we should probably expect something incredibly extensive since this is coming from the guy who wrote A Song of Ice and Fire. Say what you will about the Souls games, but besides being difficult, they have been known for their attention to the lore. Add some GRRM flair to that, and you have one of the most anticipated games of the year.
Here’s the official description:
The Golden Order has been broken.
Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between.
In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered.
Marika’s offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.
And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.
And become the Elden Lord.
Elden Ring launches for PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Feb. 25.
