One of the Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Suma Sahma Shrine or Suma Sahma’s Blessing. The Shrine itself is no challenge at all. As you enter the Suma Sahma Shrine, Link can access the shrine’s chest, and he can access the altar and talk to the monk immediately. The real challenge is completing the Secret of the Snowy Peaks Shrine Quest, which must be done before Link can access the shrine. In this guide, you will learn how to complete the Secret of the Snowy Peaks Shrine Quest, complete the Suma Sahma Shrine, obtain the chest inside, and claim the Spirit Orb.

Link will be rewarded with Spirit Orbs for completing Shrines. The Spirit Orbs obtained can be exchanged for more Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels. As there are 120 Shrines all over Hyrule, Link can get 120 Spirit Orbs. You can decide whether you want Link to have more Hearts or Stamina.

Link will not be able to access the shrine immediately. Still, the Suma Sahma Shrine will emerge from the ground a little bit south of the peak of Mount Granajh, which is west of the Oseira Plains of the Faron Grasslands in the southern area of Hyrule (the shrine can be found east of the Gerudo Desert and the South Lomei Labyrinth or south of the East Gerudo Mesa). The Suma Sahma Shrine is one of 12 shrines in the Wasteland Tower region.

As it is on top of a mountain, it is important to mention that it is very cold in the area, so make sure that Link has cold-resistant armor, food, or elixirs to survive.

Secret of the Snowy Peaks

As mentioned above, Link must complete the Secret of the Snowy Peaks Shrine Quest to access the Suma Sahma Shrine. To start this shrine quest, head to the southern edge of Mount Granajh (the location mentioned above where the Suma Sahma Shrine will emerge), and there, you will find the ruins of a cabin next to two shallow pools of water with a few snowballs.

In the cabin ruins, you will see a book on top of a rock. This book is a Mountain Peak Log written presumably by the person who stayed in the cabin. Read the Mountain Peak Log, and you will see that it is a log of the author’s findings concerning the shrine that can be found on the peak of a snowy Gerudo mountain. Continue reading, and Link will find that the author wrote about the author’s first day where they say that the author came to this snowy mountain for the purpose that they could find the ancient shrine that was written about in an old text which says:

“The shrine slumbers near the pedestal on a snowy Gerudo peak.”

The author believes they have arrived at the pedestal mentioned in the passage.

Continue reading, and Link will find that the author wrote about their seventh day, where the author ate through their food provisions more quickly than she anticipated. However, the author found an explanation in the source text that may be the key to finding the shrine.

“When the snowy mountain pedestal glows, cast a cold shadow onto its core.”

The author wrote that they noticed a glow on the pedestal that lasted for a short while each day. However, he does not understand the “cast a cold shadow onto its core” part.

After reading the Mountain Peak Log, the Secret of the Snowy Peaks Shrine Quest has started! Continue reading, and Link will find that the author has lost count of the days that have passed. The author wrote that they are very close to unlocking the secrets hidden within the pedestal and that the author is sure that “casting” and “cold” refer to a specific type of shadow. However, the author has run out of food and does not think they have what it takes to finish the job.

To complete this shrine quest, all Link has to do is cast the shadow of a snowball (the cold shadow referred to in the riddle) to the center of an ancient pedestal in the area at a certain time of day when it glows.

To do that, this is what Link must do:

  1. Before attempting to finish this shrine quest, make sure to defeat the enemies in the area first to eliminate possible nuisances.
  2. After that, wait for the time to be around 4-6 PM in the game. If that is still a long wait, Link can light the campfire near the Mountain Peak Log (this can be done by dropping a flint near the wood, then hitting it with a metal weapon, striking it with any fire-based weapons, or shooting a fire arrow at it) then sit by the campfire and wait until noon. Once it is noon, you would have to wait for a few real-life minutes until it is 4 PM in the game.
  3. Next, pick up a midsized snowball from one of the pools near the ruins of the cabin.
  4. While carrying the snowball, head to the southern edge of the area, and you will see an ancient pedestal on the side of Daval Peak. The ancient pedestal should be glowing yellow.
  5. After that, move Link so that the shadow of the snowball he carries is covering the middle of the ancient pedestal.
  6. After doing that successfully, the ancient pedestal will turn blue, and the Suma Sahma Shrine will emerge from the ground just a little bit north of the ruins of the cabin. The Secret of the Snowy Peaks Shrine Quest is now complete!

Now that Link has completed the Secret of the Snowy Peaks Shrine Quest, Link can now enter the Suma Sahma Shrine. This shrine will no longer have a challenge or puzzle inside as the puzzle was already on trying to access the shrine. Upon entering the shrine, this is what Link must do:

  1. Upon entering the Suma Sahma Shrine, head up the stairs and open the chest to obtain a Moonlight Scimitar.
  2. Then, just after the chest, continue ahead to the altar, talk to the monk, and claim your Spirit Orb!

As mentioned above, the Suma Sahma Shrine, or Suma Sahma’s Blessing, is one of 12 shrines in the Wasteland Tower region. The other shrines are the Kay Noh Shrine or the Power of Electricity, the Daqo Chisay Shrine or The Whole Picture, the Dako Tah Shrine or the Electric Path, the Jee Noh Shrine or the On the Move, the Hawa Koth Shrine or The Current Solution, the Dila Maag Shrine or Dila Maag’s Blessing, the Misae Suma Shrine or Misae Suma’s Blessing, the Kema Zoos Shrine or the A Delayed Puzzle, the Raqa Zunzo Shrine or Raqa Zunzo’s Blessing, the Korsh O’hu Shrine or Korsh O’hu’s Blessing, and the Tho Kayu Shrine or Tho Kayu’s Blessing.
