Rather than competing in Pokemon Gyms and becoming a Champion like in other mainline Pokemon games, the player in Pokemon Legends: Arceus will join the Galaxy Expedition Team, also known simply as the Galaxy Team, to be a member of the Survey Corps and learn about the Pokemon found in the Hisui region. One of the main responsibilities of the player is to complete the Pokedex by capturing and researching every Pokemon in the region.
This guide will discuss everything you need to know about Scyther!
Scyther
Scyther, the 72nd Pokemon in the Hisuian Pokedex, is a Bug and Flying type Mantis Pokemon that has a green and cream-colored body that looks like that of an insect, a pair of arms that resemble white scythes, a pair of cream-colored wings with green top edges, spikes on both of its thighs, a pair of feet with three white claws on each foot, a head that resembles a reptile, a pair of triangular eyes, and three horns on top of its head. According to its Pokedex entry in the game, Scyther’s scythes on its forearms are incredibly sharp and are fearsome weapons. Also, Scyther’s agile movement always thwarts its prey’s attempts to escape.
Basic Information
Scyther is a Bug and Flying type Pokemon. Hence, it has a weakness to Electric-type, Fire-Type, Flying-type, Ice-type, and especially Rock-type moves (super effective), a resistance to the Bug-type, and especially Grass-type and Fighting-type moves (not very effective), and an immunity to Ground-type moves (no effect).
Scyther’s base stats are 70 HP, 110 Attack, 80 Defense, 55 Special Attack, 80 Special Defense, and 105 Speed for a total of 500.
Scyther can be evolved to a Scizor using a Metal Coat or a Kleavor using a Black Augurite.
Springy Mushrooms, Hearty Grains, Dazzling Honey, and Plump Beans are Scyther’s preferred foods, and they are great to throw at it before catching or battling it or simply feeding it.
When a Scyther is captured or defeated in the wild, it drops a Spoiled Apricorn and a Wood, which the player receives.
Location
The player can find a Scyther in these areas:
In the Obsidian Fieldlands: around Grandtree Arena.
In the Coronet Highlands: southwest of Primeval Grotto.
Scyther can be in these areas at all times of the day and in every weather condition.
It is worth noting that an Alpha Scyther can be found south of Grandtree Arena in the Obsidian Fieldlands and can also be found here at all times of the day and in every weather condition. The Alpha Pokemon that can be found here is Level 42.
Scyther can also be found in Massive Mass Outbreaks in the Obsidian Fieldlands and inside Space-Time Distortions.
Research Tasks
The following are the Research Tasks in Scyther’s Pokedex entry:
Multiplier | Research Task | Objectives |
x2 | Number caught | 1/2/4/10/15 |
Number defeated | 1/2/4/10/15
Number you have defeated with Rock-type moves | 1/2/4/6/10
Times you have seen it use Air Slash | 1/3/6/12/25
x2 | Times you have seen it use X-Scissor | 1/3/6/12/25 |
x2 | Times you have seen it use an agile style move | 1/3/8/20/40 |
Number of different forms you’ve obtained | 2 |
The player can increase the research level of an entry by one by completing one of a research task’s objectives. Completing a Research Task objective with a multiplier of x2 results in an entry receiving two Research Levels rather than just one. A Pokemon must have a Research Level of 10 to have its Pokedex entry considered complete.
To quickly complete Scyther’s Pokedex entry, the player can catch four Scythers, then defeat two more using Rock-type moves. Doing these will tick the first, second, and third objective of the “Number caught” Research Task to add six Research Levels thanks to its x2 Multiplier; tick the first and second objective of the “Number defeated” Research Task which will raise two more Research Levels, and tick the first and second objective of the “Number you have defeated with Rock type moves” Research Task to add two more Research Levels and reach Research Level 10.

Relevant Request
Scyther is involved in Request 51, called “Coming Up Roses.”
To unlock this request, the player must first unlock Basculegion as a rideable Pokemon, which is part of ‘The Lordless Island’ Mission (mission 10), where the player must quell the frenzied Noble Hisuian Arcanine.
After accomplishing that, go to the northwestern part of Ramanas Island, the island in the southwest of the Obsidian Fieldlands. There, the player will find Hiemo, a member of the Diamond Clan, looking like he is kneeling on the ground. Talk to Hiemo, and he will be surprised that the player has Pokemon with them, and he will then think that fate must have his back for bringing the player to him.
He will then ask the player to bring him the Pokemon that has a scythe on each arm. Then, the “Coming Up Roses” request has begun! After confirming, Hiemo will not tell why he needs it and says that the player should just bring the Pokemon to him.
Now, the player must catch a Scyther and bring it to Hiemo. Again, Scyther can be found in the Obsidian Fieldlands (around the Grandtree Arena in the southeastmost part of the Obsidian Fieldlands) and the Coronet Highlands (west of Primeval Grotto and Celestica Trail).
Once the player has caught a Scyther, go back to Hiemo, talk to him, and select the Scyther you want to show him on the prompt. Hiemo will then check the Scyther’s blades and say they will make short work out of what he was planning for the Scyther to do.
Then, Hiemo will show the player that roses are blooming all over Ramanas Island, and he will say that he has to gather every last one. He will mention that he has been trying to pluck all the roses all day, but now that he has a Scyther, plucking all the roses will be much easier. Hiemo will explain that he will give all the roses to his wife as she wants to fill their garden with all the Ramanas roses.
But, after a moment of clarity, Hiemo will realize that his wife just wants to plant a few roses in their garden and will then say that he is thankful that the player came before he plucked every one of the roses on the island. Instead, Hiemo will only bring some of the roses’ seeds home for him and his wife to raise together.
Finally, the “Coming Up Roses” Request is completed, and Hiemo will reward the player with one Seed of Mastery for your efforts! Scyther can be a valuable ally in completing missions, requests, or Arceus’ quest for the player to catch ’em all!
