In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the player must dismantle the reportedly despicable Team Star, locate the mysterious new Titan Pokemon, discover and catch every species of Pokemon in the region to finish Pokedex, or defeat every Pokemon Gym in the region to take part in the Pokemon League, become a Paldea Champion, and be the very best like no one ever was.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet: Caph Squad (Fighting Crew) Rematch Guide

Even after completing all these and the game’s main story and then watching the credits, the player still has plenty of things to do in the post-game. One of these will be a rematch between former Team Star squads!

This guide will teach you everything you need to know to emerge victorious in a rematch against Team Star’s Caph Squad/Fighting Crew! Consider this your spoiler alert for some post-game details!

Location

The Team Star squad bases have been renamed Star Training Centers post-game. Like before, the Caph Squad Base can be found in the north of North Province (Area Two) (southeast of North Province Area One or northeast of Tagtree Thicket) in the upper right part of the map of the Paldea Region.

Aside from using a Flying Taxi to get there, the player can reach the Caph Squad Base by starting from the Glaseado Gym in Glaseado Mountain and heading northeast to North Province (Area One).

From there, head a little south towards the North Province (Area One) Pokemon Center, continue a little more south, follow the path on the southeast, then head northeast through some bamboo shoots, and the player will find the Caph Squad Base there.

Star Barrage: Rematch!

image 101

After completing the main story and watching the credits, the player can challenge the newly reorganized Star Training Center’s Caph Squad in a Star Barrage rematch. In a Star Barrage, the player must battle a certain number of Pokemon in a certain amount of time by pressing the R button to throw out a few Pokemon, particularly the first three Pokemon in the player’s party, and let them battle the Grunts’ Pokemon at the same time.

Suppose the player’s Pokemon are nearly depleted of their health. In that case, the player can ask Director Clavell, still weirdly dressed as Clive, at the base’s entrance to heal the player’s Pokemon, or the player can interact with any of the vending machines inside the base.

The player can also retreat and give up by pressing the Y button before the timer runs out. The player will lose if the timer runs out or all three of the player’s Pokemon run out of health.

Confirming

Go to the base’s gate, interact with the bell with a glowing button, and confirm on the prompt that the player wants to train at the STC to begin the Star Barrage rematch against Team Star’s Caph Squad.

After confirming the Star Barrage rematch against the Caph Squad, Eri will announce over the speakers that the player must eliminate 50 of the Caph Squad’s Pokemon within 10 minutes (rather than 30 as in the player’s main game attempts).

This Star Barrage rematch can be easily defeated by using three Pokemon that are powerful enough or have the capacity to deal super effective damage to Fighting-type Pokemon.

As this is the Fighting crew’s base, all of the Grunts inside will use a Fighting-type Pokemon (some will have dual types, but one will be Fighting). Therefore, it is worth noting that Fighting-type Pokemon have a weakness to Fairy-type, Flying-type, and Psychic-type moves (super effective), so using three Pokemon with these types to defeat the grunts’ Pokemon quickly is recommended.

The player will receive a different amount of LP based on how quickly the Star Barrage was completed. As a result, the faster the player defeats 50 Caph Squad Grunts, the more LP the player will receive.

Caph Squad Boss Eri: Rematch!

It’s also possible to challenge to rematch the recently reformed Star Training Center Squad Bosses. In the game, the Squad Bosses can only be challenged to a rematch once per day.

Enter the Caph Squad base and follow the path inside. Then proceed to the large tent with a large Poke Ball sign to challenge Eri, the boss, to a rematch. To begin the battle against Eri, speak with her and select ‘Yes’ on the prompt! Eri and a couple of Grunts will be present.

Eri will use five Fighting-type Pokemon: a Level 65 Primeape, a Level 65 Toxicroak, a Level 65 Passimian, a Level 65 Lucario, and a Level 66 Annihilape. She will not Terastallize any of her Pokemon nor use the Caph Starmobile.

Eri’s Primeape

With those in mind, it is important to mention that Primeape is a Fighting-type Pokemon that is weak (super effective) to Fairy-type, Flying-type, and Psychic-type moves and resistant (not very effective) to the Bug-type, Dark-type, and Rock-type moves.

Eri’s Primeape will use the following moves during the Caph Squad rematch:

  • Gunk Shot is a physical Poison-type move with 120 Power and 80 Accuracy. Aside from inflicting damage, it also has a 30% chance of inflicting the status condition Poison on the opposing Pokemon.
  • Stomping Tantrum is a physical Ground-type move with 75 Power and 100 Accuracy. It can deal double damage if the Pokemon using the move’s previous move fails.
  • Cross Chop is a physical Fighting-type move with 100 Power and 80 Accuracy with a 1-stage increased Critical Hit ratio.
  • Rock Slide is a physical Rock-type move with 75 Power and 90 Accuracy. It deals damage and has a 30% chance of making the opposing Pokemon flinch.

Also, Eri’s Primeape has the Ability called Vital Spirit, making it immune from getting inflicted with the Sleep status condition.

Eri’s Toxicroak

Toxicroak is a Poison and Fighting-type Pokemon that is weak (super effective) to Flying-type, Ground-type, and especially Psychic-type moves and resistant (not very effective) to Dark-type, Fighting-type, Grass-type, Poison-type, Rock-type, and especially Bug-type moves

  • Ice Punch is a physical Ice-type move with 75 Power and 100 Accuracy. Aside from causing damage, it also has a 10% chance of inflicting the status condition Freeze on the opposing Pokemon.

Aside from its moves, Eri’s Toxicroak has the Ability called Anticipation, which will warn the Pokemon with the Ability if the opposing Pokemon has a move that can deal super effective damage or can knock out the Pokemon with the Ability with one hit.

image 98

Eri’s Passimian

Passimian is a Fighting-type Pokemon, so it is weak (super effective) to Fairy-type, Flying-type, and Psychic-type and resistant (not very effective) to the Bug-type, Dark-type, and Rock-type.

Eri’s Passimian will use the following moves during the Caph Squad rematch:

  • Close Combat is a physical Fighting-type attack with 120 Power and 100 Accuracy. It will inflict damage and lessen the attacking Pokemon’s Defense and Special Defense stat by one stage.
  • Gunk Shot is a physical Poison-type move with 120 Power and 80 Accuracy. In addition to causing damage, it has a 30% chance of inflicting Poison on the target Pokemon.
  • Seed Bomb is a physical Grass-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy.
  • Earthquake is a physical Ground-type move with 100 Power and 100 Accuracy. It will hit all Pokemon in the field and deal double damage if a Pokemon uses the move Dig.

Additionally, Eri’s Passimian has the Ability called Receiver, which will copy the ability of one of its Ally Pokemon that has already fainted in the battle.

image 99

Eri’s Lucario

Lucario is a Fighting and Steel-type Pokemon that is weak (super effective) to Fighting-type, Fire-type, and Ground-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Dark-type, Dragon-type, Grass type, Ice-type, Normal-type, Steel-type, and especially Bug-type and Rock-type moves, and immunity (no effect) to Poison-type moves.

Eri’s Lucario will use the following moves during the Caph Squad rematch:

  • Dragon Pulse is a special Dragon-type attack with 85 Power and 100 Accuracy.
  • Aura Sphere is a special Fighting-type attack with 80 Power that will never be missed.
  • Dark Pulse is a special Dark-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. It inflicts damage and has a 20% chance of causing the target Pokemon to flinch.
  • Extreme Speed is a physical Normal-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy. It has an increased Speed priority of 2, making it go before most moves.

Aside from that, Eri’s Lucario has the Ability called Steadfast, which will increase the Speed stat of the Pokemon with the Ability by one stage each time the Pokemon with the Ability flinches.

Eri’s Annihilape

Annihilape is a Fighting and Ghost-type Pokemon that is weak (super effective) to Fairy-type, Flying-type, Ghost-type, and Psychic-type moves, resistant (not very effective) to Poison-type, Rock-type, and especially Bug-type moves, and immunity (no effect) to Fighting-type and Normal-type moves.

Eri’s Annihilape will use the following moves

  • Rage Fist is a physical Ghost-type move with 50 Power and 100 Accuracy. It will have more power if the Pokemon using the move has been hit by attacks.
  • Close Combat is a physical Fighting-type move with 120 Power and 100 Accuracy. It will cause damage and decrease the attacking Pokemon’s Defense and Special Defense stat by one stage.
  • Ice Punch is a physical Ice-type attack with 75 Power and 100 Accuracy. It deals damage and has a 10% chance to freeze the target Pokemon.
  • Gunk Shot is a physical Poison-type attack with 120 Power and 80 Accuracy. It deals damage and has a 30% chance of inflicting Poison on the target Pokemon.

In addition, Eri’s Annihilape has the Ability called Vital Spirit, which makes it unable to fall asleep.

Caph Squad Rematch Tips

As Eri’s Pokemon are Level 65 and 66, it is advised that the player use Level 67 and higher Pokemon with Psychic-type and Ground-type moves

This is because Psychic-type moves can deal super effective damage to almost all of Eri’s Pokemon, specifically, Eri’s Primeape, Passimian, Annihilape, and especially Toxicroak, and Ground-type moves can deal super effective damage to Eri’s Lucario and, again, Toxicroak.

Flying-type and Fairy-type moves can also be great against Eri’s Pokemon as Flying-type moves can also deal super effective damage to almost all of Eri’s Pokemon, particularly Eri’s Primeape, Toxicroak, Passimian, and Annihilipe, and Fairy-type moves can deal super effective damage to Eri’s Primeape, Passimian, and Annihilape.

Psychic-type moves are recommended even if Eri’s Pokemon have more common weaknesses, like Flying-type and Fairy-type, because Eri’s Pokemon have moves that can counter and deal super effective damage to the Pokemon types that they are weak to, except for Psychic-type Pokemon.

The only exception is Eri’s Toxicroak which has a move that can counter Psychic-type Pokemon, so it is recommended to defeat it quickly using a Pokemon with Psychic-type moves and a high-Speed stat.

It is also recommended to take down Eri’s Annihilape as quickly as possible because Rage Fist has a move that will increase its damage output each time an attack hits Eri’s Annihilape. Again, Annihilape is weak against Fairy-type, Flying-type, Ghost-type, and Psychic-type moves.

The player will receive 11,880 Pokemon Dollars after defeating Caph Squad’s boss, Eri. The player can still challenge the other former Team Star Squad Bosses in the Paldea region in a rematch, but the player will have to patiently wait until the next in-game day to challenge Eri to another rematch.
