Legendary Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet
In the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet base game, the player can catch nine Legendary Pokemon. Consider this your spoiler alert for a few game details! Here are the Legendary Pokemon that the player can get:
How to Get Legendaries: Koraidon
Koraidon is the Legendary Pokemon featured in the box art for Pokemon Scarlet. This Legendary Pokemon is a Fighting and Dragon-type Paradox Pokemon. This Pokemon has different builds depending on the situation or how it travels around Paldea.
Koraidon’s body is mostly scarlet-colored with white highlights on its face, body, limbs, and tail. It has a huge plume on its head and two long, slender, twisted antennae. Its backside has a similar but much larger plume. Koraidon’s plumes and antennae are white with a blue-purple base.
It has a pair of yellow eyes with brown pupils. Koraidon has webbed feet, blue elbows and shoulders, and blue frills flowing down its neck. A big circular protrusion on its chest resembles a rubber tire. It has the same texture and black color as the base of its tail.
Koraidon, as previously noted, is a Fighting and Dragon-type Pokemon. So, it means the following:
Weak to: | 4x | Fairy-type moves |
2x | Bug-type, Dark-type, Electric-type, Fire-type, Grass-type, Rock-type, and Water-type moves
Resistant to: | 0.5x | Bug-type, Dark-type, Electric-type, Fire-type, Grass-type, Rock-type, and Water-type moves |
Not only that, but Koraidon also possesses the ability to use Orichalcum Pulse. While Harsh Sunlight is active, this Ability will alter the weather to Harsh Sunlight for five turns and increase its Attack stat by 30%.
How to Catch Koraidon
Before anything else, it is important to point out that the player can only get Koraidon in Pokemon Scarlet. Getting Koraidon in Pokemon Violet is possible, but this can only be done through trading.
The player will get Koraidon quite early on in the game. After the player is taught how to catch Pokemon, the player will find and help a weakened Koraidon. Then, the player must follow it through the Inlet Grotto. After going through the area, the player can now mount Koraidon. This is similar to the bikes in the previous Pokemon games.
At this point of the game, however, the player will not be able to use Koraidon in battle yet, only as a mount. As the player defeats the Titan Pokemon around the Paldea region, the player’s Koraidon will become more powerful and gain abilities. These abilities include sprinting, jumping higher, swimming, climbing, and gliding down.
To use the Koraidon in battle, the player must first complete the game’s main story. The final mission in the game is called “The Way Home” quest. Near the end of the mission, the player will use Koraidon in battle and defeat the final boss of the main story.
After completing this mission and watching the credits roll, the player can use Koraidon in battle. To do that, ensure at least one free space in the player’s party. Then, navigate to Koraidon at the bottom and press the A button.
After that, select “Yes” on the prompt when asked if you want to change Koraidon into its battle form. Finally, Koraidon is added to the player’s party! The player can now use Koraidon in battles! It is important to mention that pressing the + button to ride the Koraidon will remove it from the player’s party.
How to Catch the 2nd Koraidon
During the post-game, the player can catch another Koraidon. This is the final boss that the player defeated in the last main mission of the game. To find this Koraidon, the player must do the following:
- First, fast travel to the Zero Gate. To do that, press the Y button to open the map and navigate northwest of the Great Crater of Paldea. Here, there is a fast travel point to Zero Gate. Press the A button and select “Fly here” on the prompt. Then, select “Yes” on the prompt to confirm.
- Next, enter the Zero Gate. Inside, approach the green portal in the middle. On the prompt, select “Research Station No. 4”.
- After that, exit the Research Station. Press the + button to mount Koraidon, then jump and glide down the cliff ahead to reach the lowest level of the cavern. On the way down, the player will see a large crystal structure with a road that leads up to it. Head down towards this road.
- Finally, head up this road, and the player will find another Koraidon near the wall of the crystal structure. Approach the Koraidon and press the A button to interact with it. Then, a battle against the Koraidon will begin!
The Battle
The player will battle against a Level 72 Koraidon. The best way to catch Koraidon, and even other Pokemon, is to weaken it. Then, attack it to make it get a status condition. After that, the player can use different kinds of Poke Balls to catch it.
Alternatively, the player can use the Master Ball that Professor Clavell gave the player after the game’s credits. It is important to emphasize, however, that this is the only Master Ball that the player will get in the game.
If the Koraidon is accidentally defeated, do not worry, as it will only flee. The player must wait about 10 to 60 minutes in-game to battle it again. These periods can differ every time, so don’t be concerned if it takes longer than usual. While waiting, the player can explore the area without leaving the cave and return to see if the Koraidon has respawned.
How to Get Legendaries: Miraidon
Miraidon is the Legendary Pokemon featured in the box art for Pokemon Violet. This Legendary Pokemon is an Electric and Dragon-type Paradox Pokemon. This Pokemon has different builds depending on the situation or how it travels around Paldea. Miraidon’s body is mostly violet, but its face, claws, abdomen, and tail are gray. It also has bright blue accents on its shoulders and legs.
When its legs are folded, they resemble jet engines. It has a dark purple casque on its head, round purple cheeks, two pairs of antennae, and black eyes. Its pupils are yellow-cyan and feature a pixelated appearance. There is purplish-yellow energy inside Miraidon’s body, with light blue stripes accenting it. This energy is mostly focused on its neck, tail, and antennae.
Miraidon, as mentioned, is an Electric and Dragon-type Pokemon. So it is:
Weak to: | 2x | Fire-type, Flying-type, Grass-type, Steel-type, and Water-type moves |
Resistant to: | 0.5x | Fire-type, Flying-type, Grass-type, Steel-type, and Water-type moves |
0.25x | Electric-type moves |
Also, Miraidon has Hadron Engine ability. This activates Electric Terrain for five turns and increases its Special Attack stat by 30% while active.
How to Catch Miraidon
Before we go any further, it is vital to note that the player can only obtain Miraidon in Pokemon Violet. The player can get Miraidon in Pokemon Scarlet, but only through trading.
Miraidon will be available to the player early on in the game. After learning to catch Pokemon, the player will locate and assist a wounded Miraidon. The player must then follow it via the Inlet Grotto. After traversing the area, the player can mount Miraidon.
However, at this stage in the game, the player can only use Miraidon as a mount, not in battles. As the player defeats Titan Pokemon, the player’s Miraidon gains power and abilities. These talents include sprinting, jumping higher, swimming, climbing, and gliding down.
To use the Miraidon in battle, the player must complete the “The Way Home” quest, the game’s final mission. Towards the finale of the quest, the player will utilize Miraidon in the battle to eliminate the main story’s final boss.
After finishing this quest and watching the credits, the player can use Miraidon in battle. To do so, ensure the player’s party has at least one empty slot. Then, below the player’s party, select Miraidon and press the A button.
After that, when prompted, choose “Yes” to transform Miraidon into its battle form. Miraidon is added to the player’s party and can be used in battle! It is vital to note that riding the Miraidon using the + button will remove it from the player’s party.
How to Catch the 2nd Miraidon
After completing the game’s main story, the player may get a different Miraidon. This Miraidon is the final boss the player defeats in the game’s final quest. To locate this Miraidon, the player needs to perform the following actions:
- Fast travel to the Zero Gate. To do so, open the map using the Y button and navigate northwest of the Great Crater of Paldea. There is a fast travel point to Zero Gate. Select the travel point and select “Fly here” from the prompt. Then, to confirm, click “Yes” on the prompt.
- Enter the Zero Gate next. Approach the green circle in the center of the room. Choose “Research Station No. 4” from the popup.
- Then, leave the Research Station. To mount Miraidon, use the + button, then jump and glide down the ledge ahead to reach the cavern’s lowest level. The player will notice a gigantic crystal structure with a road leading up to it on the way down. Go towards the road that leads to it.
- Finally, continue on this road to find a Miraidon near the crystal structure’s wall. To engage with the Miraidon, approach it and hit the A button. The battle against Miraidon will then commence!
The player will face a Level 72 Miraidon. Weakening Miraidon is an excellent way to catch them. After that, attack it to give it a status condition. The user can then use various types of Poke Balls to catch it. Alternatively, the player may utilize the Master Ball given by Professor Clavell after the game’s credits. However, it is important to note that this is the player’s only Master Ball in the game.
If the Miraidon is unintentionally eliminated, it will simply flee. The player must wait between 10 and 60 minutes in-game to battle it again. These times can vary from time to time, so it may take longer than normal. While the player waits, they can wander the area without exiting the cave and return to check if the Miraidon has respawned.
How to Get Legendaries: Wo-Chien
Wo-Chien is one of the group of four Legendary Pokemon known as the Treasures of Ruin. This Pokemon is a Dark and Grass-type Ruinous Pokemon and is the 393rd Pokemon in the Paldean Pokedex. Wo-Chien has a snail body covered in dark green moss and a head coated with dark green and yellow leaves.
It has two pairs of long curling vines on both sides of its head. These contain its eyes with green eyelids, green pupils, and orange sclerae. It also features a row of wooden tablets wrapped around its back like a snail’s shell.
Wo-Chien, as previously stated, is a Dark and Grass-type Pokemon, which implies it is:
Weak to: | 4x | Bug-type moves |
2x | Fairy-type, Fighting-type, Fire-type, Flying-type, Ice-type, and Poison-type moves
Resistant to: | 0.5x | Dark-type, Electric type, Ghost-type, Grass-type, Ground-type, and Water-type moves |
Immune to: | 0x | Psychic-type moves |
Additionally, Wo-Chien has the Ability called Tablets of Ruin. This reduces the Attack stat of the Pokemon in play by 25%. This Ability does not stack, and its Pokemon becomes immune to opposing Tablets of Ruin.
How to Catch Wo-Chien
The player can find Wo-Chien inside the Grasswither shrine, which can be identified through its purple door. The player can only open this shrine once the player has pulled out all eight purple stakes over Paldea.
Before attempting to remove the purple stakes, it is crucial to note that some purple stake locations may require the player’s Koraidon or Miraidon (depending on the player’s version of the game) to unlock some of its abilities.
Purple Stake Locations
The player can go to the following areas to find the purple stakes:
- At the edge of a cliff in the southwestern South Province (Area Three). The stake is east of Mesagoza or northwest of South Province Area Five.

To take out a stake, press the A button to interact with it and pull it out. It will then crumble and vanish. After removing all eight stakes, the player will hear a weird cry from the shrine.
Grasswither Shrine Location
Before reaching the Grasswither Shrine, the player’s Koraidon or Miraidon must have gained the climbing ability. This ability is acquired after the player locates and defeats Dondozo, the False Dragon Titan.
The player will find the Grasswither Shrine in the southeast of South Province (Area One) or southwest of the South Province (Area Five) Pokemon Center. The location of this shrine is a bit south of where the purple stake facing the sea was found.
When the player finds Grasswither Shrine, approach the purple door and press the A button to interact with it. The player will then hear a weak sound from inside the shrine. If the player wants to touch the shrine to open it, select ‘Yes.‘
The Legendary Pokemon Wo-Chien will emerge from the shrine and start a battle. This is the player’s opportunity to capture Wo-Chien!
Catching Wo-Chien
The player will battle a Level 60 Wo-Chien, a Dark and Grass-type Pokemon. It is vital to remember that Wo-Chien will employ Dark and Grass-type moves. Because of that, the player should use Pokemon that are resistant or immune to these moves.
Also, be cautious while utilizing Pokemon with super effective damage against Wo-Chien, as you don’t want to defeat it unintentionally. With that in mind, save the game before visiting the Grasswither Shrine. This allows you to reload the game if Wo-Chien is mistakenly defeated. If that happens, you can respawn the eliminated Legendary Pokemon after waiting 10 minutes and restarting the game.

The legendary Pokemon Chien-Pao will emerge from the shrine and engage the player in battle. The player now gets the chance to capture Chien-Pao!
Catching Chien-Pao
The player will battle against a Level 60 Dark and Ice-type Pokemon so that it will use these types of moves. Because of that, it would be best to use Pokemon that are resistant to these moves. Also, use caution when utilizing Pokemon with attacks that might cause significant damage to Chien-Pao. You wouldn’t want to eliminate it by accident.
Furthermore, save your progress before visiting the Icerend Shrine. This is so you can reload the game if Chien-Pao is unintentionally defeated. If that happens, wait 10 minutes and restart the game to respawn Chien-Pao.
