The only person who can choose what to do in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the player: disband the evil Team Star, complete the Pokedex by catching all of them, discover the mysterious new Titan Pokemon, or defeat all of the Pokemon Gyms, become champion, and become the best like no one ever was. However, once this is completed, the player can still do much post-game. One of these is a rematch challenge to all Pokemon Gyms!

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet: Gym Leader Brassius Rematch Guide

This guide will teach us to defeat Brassius, Artazon’s Gym Leader, in a rematch! Consider this your spoiler alert for the game’s main story ending!

The Beginning of the Post Game

After the credits roll after completing “The Way Home,” the game’s final main quest, the player will be returned to their dorm room and summoned to Director Clavell’s office. Exit the dorm room, then choose “Director’s Office” from the prompt. Directo Clavell will speak to Penny, Nemona, Arven, and the player, saying that he is not angry but wants to discuss their accomplishment in shutting down the time machine that prevented the ancient/future Pokemon from destroying the Paldea region’s ecosystem. In addition, Director Clavell will state that he is willing to overlook that they entered a restricted area because it was necessary. Then, Director Clavell will give the player a Master Ball.

After a few exchanges, Nemona suggests that they hold a Pokemon battle contest at the academy to commemorate the player becoming a Champion. Then, Top Champion Geeta will enter the room and say that the Pokemon League would be delighted to assist in organizing this contest before suggesting that students and staff compete for the title of strongest trainer at the academy, as everyone has the potential to be the greatest. Then, Top Champion Geeta will say she cannot participate unless the player assists her with her work. Choose “I’d be delighted to assist!” on the prompt, and Top Champion Geeta will request that the player inspect the various Pokemon Gyms in the Paldea region on her behalf to ensure that they are still serving as beacons of strength and inspiration for all those aspiring to the Champion Rank. She will explain that the player can do this by bringing their full might as Champion and challenging each Pokemon Gym leader to a battle. Then, Top Champion Geeta will depart with Penny to complete some tasks.

After a few lines of dialogue, the player can challenge the Pokemon Gym Leaders to a rematch!

Artazon Gym: Rematch!

Gym Leader Brassius can be found inside the Artazon Gym located near the middle of the city of Artazon, which is the first city in the east of Mesagoza City, just ahead of the path of South Province (Area Three) (southwest of Levincia City or southeast of East Province Area One).

Upon entering the Artazon Gym building, approach Gym Leader Brassius near the receptionist, and he will immediately recognize the player. Select any of the responses on the prompt, and Gym Leader Brassius will say that he wishes to face the player again and that he is so glad that the player is here. After a few bits of dialogue, Gym Leader Brassius will realize that the player is here on Top Champion Geeta’s behalf. He will say he does not care because the player is here just as long as they can make a masterpiece together again.

Then, Gym Leader Brassius will ask if the player is ready to open the door to the world of art, so select “Yes” on the prompt, and the player will be brought to the battle court in the middle of the city to start a battle against Gym Leader Brassius!

On the battle court, Gym Leader Brassius will explain that Artazon’s windmill catches the winds that blow across the Paldea region and continue to spin on slowly yet powerfully and that he leaps from that windmill to appear to Trainers challenging his Gym to add depth to their battles. He will continue that he does not need to jump from the windmill as he is sure they can still create their greatest masterpiece without it. Then, the battle against Gym Leader Brassius will commence!

Gym Leader Brassius will use five Grass-type Pokemon: a Level 66 Lilligant, a Level 65 Arboliva, a Level 65 Tsareena, a Level 65 Breloom, and a Level 66 Sudowoodo, which has a Grass Tera Type.

With that in mind, it is important to note that Lilligant is a Grass-type Pokemon which means that it has a weakness to the Bug-type, Fire-type, Flying-type, Ice-type, and Poison type moves (super effective) and resistance to Electric-type, Grass-type, Ground-type, and Water-type moves (not very effective).

Gym Leader Brassius’ Lilligant will use the following moves:

  • Petal Blizzard is a physical Grass-type move with 90 Power and 100 Accuracy.
  • Light Screen is a Psychic type status move that will reduce the damage from Special Attacks by 50% in Single Battles and 33% in Double Battles for five turns on the user’s side of the battle.
  • Quiver Dance is a Bug-type status move that increases the Pokemon’s Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed stats by one stage.
  • Hyper Beam is a special Normal-type move with 150 Power and 90 Accuracy that, aside from dealing damage, will stop the Pokemon from attacking the next turn.

Arboliva is a Grass and Normal-type Pokemon which means that it has a weakness to the Bug-type, Fighting-type, Fire-type, Flying-type, Ice-type, and Poison-type moves (super effective), a resistance to Electric-type, Grass-type, Ground-type, and Water-type moves (not very effective), and immunity to Ghost-type moves (no effect).

Gym Leader Brassius’ Arboliva will use the following moves:

  • Terrain Pulse, which is a special Normal type with 50 Power and 100 Accuracy that, aside from dealing damage, will become the same type as the type of terrain active in the battle and deal double damage.
  • Energy Ball, a special Grass-type move with 90 Power and 100 Accuracy that, aside from dealing damage, also has a 10% chance of lowering the Special Defense stat of the opposing Pokemon by one stage.
  • Leech Seed, which is a Grass-type status move with 90 Accuracy that steals an eighth of the target Pokemon’s HP to regain the user’s HP.
  • Grassy Terrain, which is a Grass-type status move that will heal the HP of the Pokemon on the ground by 6.25% of its HP per turn and increase the damage of Grass-type moves by 30% for five turns.

Aside from its moves, Gym Leader Brassius’ Arboliva has the Ability called Seed Sower, which will summon Grassy Terrain on the active field for five turns if the Pokemon with the Ability is hit by an attack.

Tsareena is a Grass-type Pokemon which means that it has a weakness to the Bug-type, Fire-type, Flying type, Ice-type, and Poison-type moves (super effective) and resistance to Electric-type, Grass-type, Ground type, and Water-type moves (not very effective).

Gym Leader Brassius’ Tsareena will use the following moves:

  • Trop Kick, which is a physical Grass-type move with 70 Power and 100 Accuracy that, aside from dealing damage, will also lower the Attack stat of the opposing Pokemon by one stage.
  • High Jump Kick, which is a physical Fighting type move with 130 Power and 90 Accuracy that, if the attack misses, will deal damage to the Pokemon who used the move that is equal to half of its maximum HP.
  • Play Rough, a physical Fairy-type move with 90 Power and 90 Accuracy that, in addition to causing damage, has a 10% chance of lowering the opposing Pokemon’s Attack stat by one stage.
  • Zen Headbutt, which is a physical Psychic type move with 80 Power and 90 Accuracy that, in addition to delivering damage, has a 20% chance of making the enemy Pokemon flinch.

Breloom is a Grass and Fighting-type Pokemon which means that it has a weakness to Fairy-type, Fire-type, Ice-type, Poison-type, Psychic-type, and especially Flying-type moves (super effective), and resistance to Dark-type, Electric type, Grass-type, Ground-type, Rock-type, and Water-type moves (not very effective).

Gym Leader Brassius’ Breloom will use the following moves:

  • Mach Punch, which is a physical Fighting type move with 40 Power and 100 Accuracy that, aside from dealing damage, also has an increased Speed priority of 1 which allows it to move faster than most moves.
  • Seed Bomb is a physical Grass-type move with 80 Power and 100 Accuracy.
  • Thunder Punch, which is a physical Electric-type move with 75 Power and 100 Accuracy that, aside from dealing damage, also has a 10% chance of paralyzing the opposing Pokemon.
  • Spore is a Grass-type status move with 100 Accuracy that will put the opposing Pokemon to sleep.

Aside from its moves, Gym Leader Brassius’ Breloom has the Ability called Effect Spore, which has a 10% chance of inflicting Paralyze, Poison, or Sleep on the opposing Pokemon if the Pokemon with the Ability is hit with a physical move.

Sudowoodo is a Rock-type Pokemon, but, as Gym Leader Brassius will Terastallize his Sudowoodo, it will change into a Grass-type because of its Tera-Type, so it also now has a weakness to the Bug-type, Fire-type, and Flying-type, Ice-type, and Poison-type moves (super effective) and resistance to Electric-type, Grass-type, Ground-type, and Water-type moves (not very effective).

Gym Leader Brassius’ Sudowoodo will use the following moves:

  • Trailblaze, which is a physical Grass-type move with 50 Power and 100 Accuracy that, aside from dealing damage, will also raise the Speed stat of the Pokemon using the move by one stage.
  • Stone Edge, a physical Rock type move with 100 Power and 80 Accuracy, is also an attack that has increased the Critical Hit ratio by one stage.
  • Fire Punch, a physical Fire-type move with 75 Power and 100 Accuracy that, aside from dealing damage, also has a 10% chance of burning the opposing Pokemon.
  • Ice Punch, which is a physical Ice type move with 75 Power and 100 Accuracy that, aside from dealing damage, also has a 10% chance of freezing the opposing Pokemon.

Aside from its moves, Gym Leader Brassius’ Sudowoodo has the Ability called Sturdy, which allows it to survive with 1 HP remaining if it is hit by a move that can knock it out with one hit or by One hit KO moves.

As Gym Leader Brassius’ Pokemon are Level 65 and 66, it is recommended that the player use Pokemon that are Level 67 and above with Flying type moves as these will deal super effective damage to all of Gym Leader Brassius’ Pokemon, especially Breloom.

Aside from Flying-type moves, moves that are Fire type, Ice type, and Poison-type will also deal super effective damage to all of Gym Leader Brassius’ Pokemon.

Also, the player should watch out for Gym Leader Brassius’ Breloom as, again, it has the Effect Spore Ability, which has a 30% chance of inflicting Paralyze, Poison, or Sleep on the opposing Pokemon if the Pokemon with the Ability is hit with a physical move.

So, even though the chances are quite low, make sure to attack it with special attacks to prevent the player’s Pokemon from getting status conditions.

After winning the battle, Gym Leader Brassius will compare the player to a unique gradient that subtly changes hues. He thinks the player looks riotous yet gentle.

He will continue and say that his battles with the player are truly a gift that makes him remember how he felt long ago when he first entered this art world. Then, Gym Leader Brassius will ask the player to report his Gym to Top Champion Geeta as the player sees fit.

After defeating Gym Leader Brassius in the rematch, the player can continue challenging other Gym Leaders in rematches and other post-game quests!
