Every kid growing up in the 90s has been in touch with Sennheiser and most likely the HD 200s series. I remember Sennheiser as a quality audio brand with the most comfortable and best sound-quality headphones on the market. But now they’re here again with their latest shot as entering the gaming market with the GSP670 Wireless Gaming Headset. This is a true competitor to the Astro A50. Let’s see how it compares.
Sennheiser Wireless Gaming Headset
The market demands wireless gaming headsets and Sennheiser delivers. Sennheiser promises 20 hours of gaming time which is more than twice what I get with Astro A50 and a solid 10 meter range while still running on their low latency connection. This all sounds promising, but how does it work in reality?
The Design
The GSP 670 looks like a combination of a spaceship and a tank. It’s absolutely massive and with some very hard lines that makes it look masculine and futuristic.
It fits perfectly and very comfortable with the leather wrapped around your ears. It’s not as good as the Astro soft-touch but almost as good. It can easily be adjusted to fit people with small and large heads. The adjustable system is actually made out of metal and feels like it’s a high-quality product. Way better than the cheap Logitech headsets size adjust system.
The mic is attached to the left side of the headset and automatically mutes when in the upright position. Just like it should so you can easily mute your mic if your mums start yelling at you. However, I am missing a stand for this headset like the A50 from Astro comes with.
The headset has four buttons which does the following:
- Pair Device Button (Push to pair device)
- Scroll wheel to adjust the sound volume
- Smaller scroll wheel to adjust the chat volume
- A smart-button you can program to do whatever you’d like – SMART!
The Functionalities
GSP 670 is build for PC and PS4. It can also be connected to any device with Bluetooth such as your smartphone. Very convenient for having talks on the phone or while watching a movie on the airplane.
GSP comes with 7.1 Sennheiser Binaural Rendering Engine which, I guess is there fancy way of saying Dolby Digital sound. It all sounds very good and there’s clearly a quality difference between this and the A50 from Astro.
Sennheiser claims that the battery will last for 16-20 hours while the Astro only lasts for 15 hours. My experience tells me that this is always 3-5 hours longer than what I usually gets. My Astro usually runs out of battery after 12 hours of inctense gaming while I have currently been using the Sennheiser for 13 hours and still going strong.
The Sennheiser is good for 10 meters of range while Astro only goes for 9 meters. I must admit that if I move just 5 meters away from my Astro it already starts cutting out and ultimately I loose all sound.
The Price & Verdict
Sennheiser GSP 670 starts at 387 USD which is just a tiny bit more than the Astro at around 330 USD. Now is it worth it? I’d say so. The headset has a longer range, better battery time and better sound quality. It may not be just as comfortable as the top of the class Astro A50 but I can live with that. If 50 USD is not a factor for you, then I would go for the GSP 670 any day.
It’s easy to set up the Sennheiser GSP 670 using the Sennheiser Gaming Suite. You can download it here or simply search for it online.
The main differences between these two headsets are the noisecancelling on GSP 600, GSP 600 is cheaper and the GSP 670 is wireless where the GSP 600 comes with a cord.
The GSP 670 comes with the headset, a dongle for the wireless access and a USB cable for charging.
Not very well. The Sennheiser GSP 670 only works with PS, Mac, PS4 and devices with Bluetooth.
If your mic doesn’t work, try going into your recording settings and see if its enabled. You access this in your process bar in the bottom right corner. Right click sounds and click Recording.
You can adjust the mic settings in two ways. There’s a small scrollwheel on the headset itself and then there’s the Recording settings on your PC.
The Sennheiser Gaming Suite is downloadable from their website.
I do not recommend setting up SupremeFX with Sennheiser GSP 670. It will conflict with the Sennheiser Binaural Rendering Engine.
You need to download the Sennheiser Gaming Suite available at their website to configure your Sennheiser headset in Windows 10.
It’s easy to set up the Sennheiser headset. Simply download the Sennheiser Gaming Suite and follow the instructions.
The GSP 670 was released in 2019.
If you feel like the quality is not great there are a few things you can do. Try updating the firmware of your headset through the Gaming Suite or do a factory reset.
