Have you ever wondered if there were mobs in Minecraft that served no purpose to the player? Well, we are about to answer that question. Here are the top 5 least useful mobs in Minecraft 1.18.

Top 5 least useful mobs in Minecraft 1.18

Minecraft is a sandbox game where most mobs are based on creatures in real life. Not only do realistic mobs such as dolphins, horses, and cows exist, but there are also mystical creatures such as zombies, endermen, and phantoms. Each mob in Minecraft has its own unique approach and interaction with the player. And while most passive, neutral, and hostile mobs prove to be useful for players one way or another, some only exist to enhance the gaming experience and do not necessarily provide the player with anything worthwhile, especially in survival mode.

5. Goat

Ever since goats were added in the 1.17 Caves & Cliffs update, they have yet to be helpful for players. Besides being a source of milk—which cows already provide—and goat horns, they do not drop anything players need. They are, however, visually relevant as they create a sense of life in mountain biomes ever since they were included in the update.

4. Polar Bear

When venturing in snow and icy biomes, you might encounter polar bears. Polar bears are neutral mobs that have a unique personality. They stay passive towards the player as long as the player does not provoke them. However, polar bears do not provide anything useful other than being a source of raw cod or raw salmon when killed. They only exist to enhance the feel and experience of players in icy biomes.

3. Panda

Pandas were added into Minecraft along with the 1.14 Village and Pillage update. And although they are one of the most adorable mobs in Minecraft, they do not provide anything of use to players. When a panda is killed, it only drops one bamboo—which is essentially useless considering pandas only spawn in jungle biomes where bamboo is already predominant. The only thing that makes pandas special is their unique individual personalities and innate cuteness.

2. Silverfish

Silverfish are small, hostile mobs that spawn when breaking infested blocks, usually in strongholds, igloo basements, and woodland mansions. These tiny mobs are practically useless, considering they do not drop any item and only provide five experience points to players when killed. However useless they may be, they still pose a threat to players as they often fight in groups and often call other silverfish nearby when one of them is attacked. It is best to take caution when fending off a single one as they are never alone.

1. Bat

Bats are practically the most useless mob in Minecraft to date. Mojang even confirmed that bats were only added as an atmospheric mob. As Jens Bergensten once said, “An atmospheric mob is a mob that constantly spawns, similar to the Squid, but also constantly despawns because when a player is not around it no longer serves a purpose.” This fact is exemplified as bats neither drop experience points nor items when killed, making them the least useful mob in the game. But although they do not provide players with any item or experience points, they are still relevant as the presence of bats completes the dark ambiance of deep caves and caverns.
