Three bombsites? No problem.
Cypher will naturally be a powerful pick on maps such as Lotus that feature tight chokepoints leading to its bomb sites. A site on Lotus alone has several entryways that Cypher players can use to set up powerful Trapwires to catch enemies entering the bomb site. The same goes for Lotus B-site and C-site.
The recent buff to Cypher’s Trapwire has given the ability more overall length, which allows you to use anchor points you previously couldn’t with the old Trapwire’s range. This will come in handy when playing Defense on one of Lotus’ many bombsites and covering your team’s flank on Lotus.
We have compiled the best Cypher Trapwire setups that you can use to Defend Lotus in this guide.
Lotus A-site Cypher Trapwire
A-site is arguably the most important bombsite on Lotus because of the small breakable wall that creates a new flanking lane that leads to B-site.
This is why the current Lotus meta is concentrated at full-team pushes into A-site (Lotus’ most contested bombsite) and then rotating to B-site through A-Link if the opportunity presents itself.
The Attacking team can also immediately go through A-Main or A-Tree and play a Default strategy on the bomb site. If you are playing A-site as Cypher, you must cover A-Entrance and A-Tree to defend A-site effectively.
The Trapwire setups featured below will help you cover A-site Entrance and the A-Tree Entrance and hopefully deter the enemy team from attempting another A-site take on Lotus.
A-Tree Trapwire
Place a Trapwire along the A-Tree Entrance, as shown below. You can also place a Cyber Cage to mask your position as you shoot at any enemy caught in the Trapwire.
For this Trapwire, you can play at A-Backsite or A-Silent Drop. The former will be safer as you can escape through A-Rope if things do not go as planned.
A-Entrance Trapwire
For A-site Entrance, place a Trapwire along the edge of the entryway. Place a Cyber Cage to mask your position from the enemy.
You can play this Trapwire from the back of the site. You can use A-Rope as a fallback plan.
Lotus B-site Cypher Trapwire
B-site is equally important on Lotus as the bombsite that the Attacking team can opt to rotate to in case their A-site push goes south.
Fortunately, B-site features narrow choke points that you can easily cover with Cypher’s Trapwires. Just make sure you cover A-Link and B-site Entrance with your Trapwires.
B-Entrance Trapwire
Place this Trapwire as close to the edge of the B-Entrance wall as possible. This ensures you will get a good sightline to any enemy caught by the Trapwire from B-Upper. Follow up with a Cyber Cage to mask your position in B-site.
Ensure you use a Phantom since the Vandal will give away your position with its bullet tracers.
A-Link Trapwire
Place the Trapwire for A-Link as close as possible inside B-site. This will give you a direct sightline from B-Upper.
Use a Cyber Cage to mask your position, and make sure you’re using a Phantom so you don’t throw out bullet tracers.
Lotus C-site Cypher Trapwire
C-site is the least popular bombsite to Attack on Lotus because of the bombsite’s layout. The C-site entrance features L-shaped lanes, giving the Defending team easy crossfire angles on the incoming enemy players.
When playing Defense as Cypher on C-site, you must ensure that the incoming Attackers are punished as soon as they enter C-site through the C-site Entrance.
A simple Trapwire setup along C-Entrance and one along the small lane leading to C-Waterfall should do the trick.
C-Entrance Trapwire
Place the Trapwire along the C-site Entrance. You can hold this spot easily from C-Backsite or C-Waterfall.
C-Waterfall Lane Trapwire
Place the second Trapwire in this narrow lane leading to C-Waterfall. This will protect your team’s rotation lane to C-site. You can also hold this position from C-Waterfall safely.
Feel free to place a Cyber Cage on both the C-Entrance and C-Waterfall Trapwire to mask your position as you shoot at enemies caught by the Trapwire.
Instant Deterrent
Simply picking Cypher on Lotus is enough to make the Attacking team rethink their strategy on the map. Cypher’s powerful traps allow him to cover multiple lanes simultaneously, making him a valuable asset on a triple bombsite map such as Lotus.
However, pick your bombsite carefully throughout the match, as your traps will be useless if the enemy team doesn’t come to your bomb site anyway.
Playing A-site or B-site will be your best bet, as these two bombsites are naturally linked and are important lanes for the Attacking team on Lotus.
