Viper has one of the highest win rate percentages on Icebox. Learn these Viper One-way Smokes on Icebox to level up your Viper gameplay.
Viper’s kit is a special combination of smokes and mollies that allow her to essentially fit into the role of both a Controller and a Sentinel at any given time.
Does your team need a smoker? Viper has her Toxic Screen and Poison Cloud that can cover a decent amount of space. Do you need help in slowing down or stopping an incoming Attacker rush? Snake Bite might do the trick. Viper’s hybrid role capability helped skyrocket the American Chemist’s status as a meta-defining Agent back in Episode 3.
For Episode 4, we’ve gone on a mission to compile the most useful Viper One-way Smokes to take advantage of Viper’s Poison Cloud ability.
Today, this mission has taken us to VALORANT’s icy and snowy map, Icebox, where we look at some of the best Viper One-way Smokes on Icebox.
Viper Poison Cloud
Viper’s Poison Cloud is a spherical smoke-type ability commonly seen on Controller-type Agents.
What sets Poison Cloud apart from other smoke abilities in VALORANT is Viper’s ability to redeploy and manually toggle the smoke throughout the round (there is an 8-second delay when reactivating the Poison Cloud).
Poison Cloud runs off of Viper’s Fuel Bar – a passive ability that “fuels” her Toxic Screen and Poison Cloud abilities.
Unlike other smoke abilities such as Omen’s Dark Cover and Brimstone’s Sky Smoke (which both have a predetermined duration), Viper’s Poison Cloud’s duration is purely dependent on the amount of “Fuel” Viper currently has available.
Poison Cloud does not just function as a smoke cover, though, as any enemy passing through the Poison Cloud will immediately be inflicted with 50 Decay Damage.
As you already probably realized, Poison Cloud is a value-packed ability that can serve multiple functions for just about every situation. Knowing how to maximize its benefits will help you solo-defend bombsites when playing Viper.
Icebox A-site: A-Belt Viper One-way Smoke
Deny the Attacking team’s vision towards A-site with this Viper One-way Smoke for A-Belt.
A-Belt is a slightly elevated platform that gives the Attacking team an excellent vantage point towards most angles in A-site.
From A-Belt, Attackers have sightlines towards A-Rafters, A-Nest, 410, A-Pipes, A-Screens, and many more. With that in mind, it might be in the Defending team’s best interest to deny the Attacking team any information on A-site.
This Viper One-way Smoke for A-Belt will block off almost all of these sightlines and, as a bonus, provide a One-way effect that will allow you to see the enemy’s legs, which you can then use to spam them with a Phantom.
- With the barrier still up, stand against the barrier while keeping yourself centered with this dark grey stripe:
2. Look up towards A-Nest. Vertically, aim for this light stripe. Horizontally, aim along the middle of this triangular indention on A-Nest:
3. Left-click-throw Viper’s Poison Cloud:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud container should land along the edge of the A-Nest wall:

Icebox A-site: A-Screens Viper One-way Smoke
Catch Attackers coming from Icebox’s Middle off guard at A-Screen with a Viper One-way Smoke.
If you’ve previously read a couple of articles in our VALORANT: Best Smoke Spots series, you’ve probably already heard us talk about how vital Middle control is for maps that have them.
The same holds for Icebox, which also features a Middle lane. The Attacking team will want to take control of the A-site from both A-Main/A-Belt and A-Middle/A-Screen since a double-entry is the best way of overwhelming the Defending team on any bombsite in VALORANT.
With that in mind, if you start noticing the enemy team is consistently trying to take Middle control on their A-site takes, then this Viper One-way Smoke for A-Screen will come in handy.
- Stand in this corner at A-Rafters:
2. Look towards the A-Screen entrance:
3. Aim along the black steel frame of the A-Screen entrance and along the middle of this tile on the wall:
4. Left-click-throw Viper’s Poison Cloud:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud container should land on top of the A-Screens entryway frame:
Enemy POV:
Icebox A-site – A-Maze Viper One-way Smoke
Attackers will want to take control of A-Maze to cut off Defender rotations coming from A-Screen.
The Attacking team can take two lanes to enter to A-site; these lanes are the A-Ultimate Orb lane and A-Maze.
For the Attacking team, the A-Maze area provides a powerful sightline towards A-Screen that helps cut off any Defender rotations coming from that area.
As a Defender, A-Maze should be one of your top priorities if your team plans on playing for an A-site retake. Without A-Maze control, your teammates rotating from Middle or B-site will have limited entry options toward A-site, making retakes more difficult.
Here’s a quick and easy Viper One-way Smoke for A-Maze:
- Keep yourself centered with the Kingdom Logo at 410 while standing against the A-Nest wall:
2. Look down, then align yourself with the thick vent grille:
3. Move a little to the right until you’re aligned with the second thin grille:
4. Walk forward until your crosshair is centered with this gray plating:
5. Look up, then aim along 410’s light-colored wall and along this line on A-Nest:
6. Jump, then quickly follow up with a right-click-throw:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud container should land on the edge of 410:
Enemy POV:
Icebox A-site: A-Main Viper One-way Smoke
Pushing towards A-site without vision and information about enemy locations can be a death sentence. Take away the enemy team’s vision towards A-site with this Viper One-way Smoke.
As we mentioned in the A-Maze Viper One-way Smoke, A-Ultimate Orb, and A-Maze are the two most common lanes that the Attacking team will take to get to the A-site.
A standard smoke placement along the A-Ultimate Orb lane should be enough to deter the enemy team from pushing towards the A-site.
However, this 410 Viper One-way Smoke will give you and your team a great one-way effect towards A-Main and block the A-Belt and A-Nest Attackers’ vision towards A-site.
- Stand in this corner by the Generator:
2. Look up towards the ceiling:
3. Aim at the point of intersection between these two lines on the ceiling:
4. Left-click-throw Viper’s Poison Cloud:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud should land on this corner on 410:
Enemy POV:
Icebox B-site: B-Green Viper One-way Smoke
B-Green is already pretty tight and claustrophobic. Make it feel even more cramped with this Viper One-way Smoke for B-Green.
For Icebox B-site, the Attacking team has two entry options – B-Green and B-Orange.
Icebox’s B-Green got its annual spring cleaning service courtesy of Riot in Patch 4.04. Some of the most apparent changes for Icebox’s B-site are the widened B-Green lanes and the revision to the B-Garage entryways.
Revisions aside, B-Green is still a narrow chokepoint that the Attacking team will want to explode out of because of how dangerous this position is for the Attacking team.
Help stall or even stop the Attacker push at B-Green with this simple Viper One-way Smoke for B-Green:
- Align yourself with this edge of the container van at B-Green:
2. Turn around and look towards the orange crane hanging above B-Green:
3. Aim along the right edge of the crane vertically and along the upper line of the crane support horizontally:
4. Jump then right-click-throw Viper’s Poison Cloud:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud should land on top of the middle B-Green container van:
Enemy POV:
Icebox B-site – B-Kitchen Viper One-way Smoke
Deter the Attacking team from pushing towards B-Kitchen with a Viper One-way Smoke.
B-Kitchen is one of the most critical spaces your team must secure as a Defender on B-site.
The Defending team’s retake and rotation towards B-site will become disastrous quickly if they concede control of B-Kitchen. B-Kitchen grants sightlines towards the Defender Spawn and B-Orange, which the Attacking team can use to effectively cut off rotations before the Defending team can set foot within B-site territory.
With that in mind, you can easily rotate between B-site defense and B-Kitchen defense if you stand inside B-Hall with this Viper One-way Smoke for B-Kitchen:
- Stand in this corner in B-Kitchen:
2. Turn around and look towards this CCTV camera:
3. Aim for the base of the CCTV arm:
4. Left-click-throw Viper’s Poison Cloud:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud should slot in nicely behind the CCTV camera:
Enemy POV:
Cold Blooded Viper
Icebox is one of the stronger maps for Viper mains. Viper’s Toxic Screen and Poison Cloud are powerful utilities that can help secure map position around Icebox.
Although Viper’s Poison Cloud should have no problems functioning as a standard smoke around Icebox, exerting a little more effort to set up Viper One-way Smokes should net you and your team a few easy kills around bombsites.
With that said, hopefully, you enjoyed reading our article on Viper One-way Smokes on Icebox. We highly recommend you try and learn a few Viper Snake Bite Lineups on Icebox for post-plant, as some of those might come in handy when you’re out playing as an Attacker on Icebox.
