Some Agents will play better than others on specific maps in VALORANT. It all comes down to how the map is laid out, what type of abilities an Agent possesses, and how these two things mesh to help accentuate the latter’s ability to create value and impact on the team.
Viper is a powerful Controller Agent that stays relevant in both the Attacking and Defending sides in VALORANT. Her Toxic Screen is arguably the strongest cover ability in the game, and her double Snake Bite charges can help delay the Spike defuse by up to 11 seconds on post-plant. Oh, and don’t forget about her Viper’s Pit Ultimate as well – nobody wants to soak their feet into that.
Nevertheless, for this guide, we will focus on Viper’s underrated smoke ability, Poison Cloud, and how you can set up powerful one-way smokes that can help you on both site Defense and post-plant.
Viper One-way Smokes on Pearl A-site
A-Link Defensive One-way Smoke
The enemy team has no choice but to cross A-Link to make their way into A-site proper. This makes A-Link a powerful spot that provides a great sightline towards A-site on Defense.
- Stand against this wall:
2. Look up towards this small window:
3. Aim a little to the left from the middle of the window frame:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud canister should land in the window:
And give a nice one-way smoke effect for A-site:
Viper One-way Smokes on Pearl Middle
A-Art Defensive One-way Smoke
If you’re defending Pearl Middle alone, it might not be a good idea to peek out and try to take kills at Middle. The better move might be to hang around in A-Art and wait for unsuspecting Attackers to make their way into the area.
With this Viper one-way smoke on A-Art, you can secure a few kills before the enemy team even sees you from the other side of the smoke.
- Stand in this corner at A-Art at the round start barrier:
2. Place the left tip of the Viper’s Pit icon line on this corner of the tiles:
3. Left-click-throw Viper’s Poison Cloud:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud canister should land on top of one of the planks in A-Art:
And provide a nice one-way smoke effect towards the Middle:
Mid Doors One-way Smoke
If the Attacking team decides to take control of the B-site, you can expect a few Attackers to make their way through Middle Doors to seize control of the B-Link area.
Take them down before they can even make their way towards B-Link with this one-way smoke for Middle Doors.
- Stand in this corner in B-Link:

Viper One-way Smokes on Pearl B-site
B-Link One-way Smoke
This Viper one-way smoke for the B-Link entrance can help you secure a few kills on enemy players at the B-Link area.
- Stand next to this wall at B-Link:
2. Aim towards this small gap on the arch:
3. Left-click-throw Viper’s Poison Cloud:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud should land in the gap:
And give you a great one-way smoke effect from B-Halls:
B-Main One-way Smoke
B-Main is where most Attackers will be if the Attacking team decides to take control of B-site. Pick off a few unsuspecting Attackers from deep within B-Main with this one-way smoke.
- Stand on top of this point in the tiles:
2. Place the tip of the left HUD line along the bottom third of this piping:
3. Left-click-throw Viper’s Poison Cloud:
When done correctly, Viper’s Poison Cloud should land in the small light strip:
And give you a nice one-way smoke effect for B-Main:
One-way Road
Setting up these Viper one-way smokes on Pearl will take a few seconds of your time pre-round start, but it will be worth it. These one-way smokes will often deter enemies from pushing further into your site, but most of the time, you can get some free kills from these smokes, especially in the lower ranks where players have no idea what your smoke setup does in the first place.
