I still remember the day I first tried Windlands on PSVR. I remember it so vividly because I was sick as a dog after 10 minutes of play, yet I still went back in for more, even though I knew I’d be kneeling over the toilet bowl a short while after.
Windlands was so extreme for me that I couldn’t even finish the game for my review, though I still hold in a very high regard as one of the best PSVR games available. Guess what? I’ve been back and I’ve come out relatively unscathed, despite being flung around like a novice Spider-Man.
Yesterday saw the release of Windlands’ long-awaited update that brought PS4 Pro and PS Move support. The latter is what is of interest to most as the game will not let you aim your grappling hooks by using the PS Move wands. The original control scheme – which is still available, by the way – was all DualShock 4.

There’s a video up above of me throwing myself around one of the game’s early worlds. It’ll be immediately obvious that I’m no Spider-Man, but despite the somewhat fiddly controls, I had an absolute blast. Movement isn’t as easy using the PS Move’s face buttons, but it gets the job done. You’ll definitely find it awkward at first, but I found that after a while I was turning and strafing with relative ease.
While movement is a little finicky, swinging is even harder. It’s easy enough to point your grapple at a tree and go flying towards it, but trying to pull of a string of sweet swings is bloody difficult. That being said, it was all the more satisfying when I did manage to get a good run going before eventually falling to my death. Best of all is that I didn’t puke. Not once. Whether that’s because I’ve finally grown a VR-ready stomach or the game doesn’t feel as disjointed by using your arms, I can’t say.
I can’t stress enough just how brilliant this update has been for the game. If you’ve got Windlands in your download library, get it updated and give it a go. If you don’t own Windlands, get it and experience being Spider-Man.
