The general of the Tenryou Commission, Kujou Sara, is a bold, decisive, and skilled leader in battle. Due to her strong sense of duty, she became known to the Inazuma people as a stern and ruthlessly efficient military person. Her goal is to serve and support the Almighty Shogun’s will to manifest Eternity and she is willing to do whatever it takes to pursue her duties.
Because she is known and introduced as a support character, this Tengyu warrior is not as popular as DPS characters. But what most players do not know is that Kujou Sara’s kit offers flexibility when it comes to playstyles.
Roles, Playstyles, and Talents
Kujou Sara’s normal attack—Tengu Bowmanship—has one of the most well-designed move set animations for bow users. It allows her to perform up to 5 consecutive shots while gracefully wielding her bow.
However, her elemental skill Tengu Stormcall will force you to switch to charged aimed shots. After using this talent, Kujou Sara will gain a Crowfeather Cover that will last for 18 seconds.
The Crowfeather Cover will be consumed when firing a fully-charged aimed shot and then leave a Crowfeather at the target location.
After a short while, the Crowfeather will explode triggering Tengu Juurai: Ambush that deals Electro damage.
The passive talent Immovable Will also enhances Kujou Sara’s aimed shots by reducing its charge time by 60% whenever she has a Crowfeather Cover active. This further shows that charged aimed shots are her main damage-dealing play style.
The characters within the AOE of Tengu Juurai: Ambush, as well as that of Subjugation: Koukou Sendou—Kujou Sara’s elemental burst talent—will gain an ATK bonus based on Kujou Sara’s Base ATK.
Build Suggestions
Although Kujou Sara’s play style and team role seem to be complicated, it is actually as simple as building any other DPS character.
Since the ATK bonus that Kujou Sara gives her team only scales off of her Base ATK, the only way to increase this is to get a bow with high Base ATK and increase Kujou Sara’s level.
Below are the equipment to consider in building your Tenryou Commission General.
Weapons
Skyward Harp, Amos’ Bow, Thundering Pulse, and Polar Star
All these 5-star bows can help boost Kujou Sara’s damage output as well as increase the amount of ATK bonus she can provide her teammates. This is because 5-star weapons have higher Base ATK than any other 4-star weapon.
However, Skyward Harp will be the best weapon when considering Kujou Sara’s support capability. It has the highest Base ATK among the four and the secondary stat makes it easy to build a critical rate for more consistent damage output.
Alley Hunter, Mouun’s Moon, and Blackcliff Warbow
Among all the released 4-star bows in the game, these three have the highest Base ATK of 565. One of these should be the weapon to equip Kujou Sara if you intend to offer a high ATK bonus to your teammates.
In a co-op game where Kujou Sara stays on the field, the passive effect of the Alley Hunter will go to waste because it will only activate and stack when its wielder is off the field.
Prototype Crescent, Royal Bow, and The Viridescent Hunt
These three bows are also good for Kujou Sara and should be considered if the other 4-star weapons above are not available to you.
Hamayumi
This Inazuma-themed bow fits perfectly for our tengu warrior when it comes to aesthetics. However, it has the lowest Base ATK but makes up for it with its secondary stat of 55% ATK bonus and a passive effect that increases the damage of the wielder’s normal and charged attacks.
Although the ATK buff that Kujou Sara gives the party is lesser when using this weapon, her damage output will be greater. It is safe to say that the Hamayumi is for a build that focuses on being a DPS rather than a support or hybrid type.
The Stringless
This weapon’s secondary stat is Elemental Mastery and it is for an experimental burst build that other players are having fun building.
With this build, the playstyle is to summon Kujou Sara mainly to cast her elemental burst. The tricky part about this build is that you have to properly consider your party composition to include characters that will apply the first element before Kujou Sara’s Electro attack in order to trigger an elemental reaction.
You will also most likely need Elemental Mastery and damage boosters to maximize this play style.
Artifacts
Artifacts with flat ATK and ATK% bonuses will not do anything to a character’s base ATK, thus equipping Kujou Sara with these artifacts won’t do much as a support type.
4-Piece Noblesse Oblige
This set will increase the damage Kujou Sara’s elemental burst and then increase all party members’ ATK. Since the talent will also give an ATK Bonus to anyone within its AOE, pairing it with the buff provided by the 4-Piece Noblesse Oblige makes this set perfect for support or hybrid type.
4-Piece Shimenawa’s Reminiscence
The 4-piece set of this artifact is perfect for increasing Kujou Sara’s damage output because if she has 15 or more energy when she uses her elemental skill, her normal, charged, and plunging attacks will have increased damage of 50%.
As a DPS, her playstyle will always be casting her elemental skill and then followed by a fully charged aimed shot. This sequence or rotation will trigger and maximize the 4-piece set effect of Shimenawa’s Reminiscence.
2-Piece Gladiator’s Finale and 2-Piece Shimenawa’s Reminiscence
You can also have a combination of 2-Piece Gladiator’s Finale and Shimenawa’s Reminiscence. Both will give an ATK bonus of 18% for a total of 36%.
Thundering Fury and Thundersoother
If you want to increase Kujou Sara’s Electro damage you can try experimenting with the Thundering Fury and Thundersoother artifact sets.
Using two Thundering Fury artifacts will give an Electro DMG bonus of 15%, while Thundersoother can increase the damage dealt against opponents affected by Electro only when you are using four pieces of this set.
For higher Electro damage make sure to have a goblet with Electro DMG Bonus as mains stat.
A circlet with either Critical Rate or Critical DMG bonus will also improve your character’s damage output.
Kujou Sara’s playstyle may seem to lie between a DPS and a support, but in actual gameplay, all you have to do is gear her up like any other DPS. Her combat style is staying a good enough distance to shoot her arrows and at the same time boost her teammates’ ATK.
