Character Background

Known for having an amber left eye and being Aaru Village’s Guardian, Candace always shows great kindness to all visitors. In her view, as long as the village’s rules are respected, anyone can rest in it. If one decides to do otherwise, one will find that Candace’s lance and shield are the most frightening weapons.

candace 002

Candace is a descendant of King Deshret and has a fighting ability capable of warding off an entire tide of foes. A former Eremites member once warned his companions that the terrifying village Guardian is a true descendant of King Deshret.

That the shield in her hand possesses the blessing of Al-Ahmar, such that if Candace so wishes, she could even send forth a huge sandstorm to engulf all her foes. In truth, Candace doesn’t often use her lance and shield as debating tools.

candace 003 1

The gods found Candace and approved when Aaru Village faced various unprecedented circumstances. Some of the former guardians have long been dissatisfied with her for abandoning their traditions, as they claim. However, she stood her ground and told them that if they only wished to protect the past of this village, then they should do it themselves.

Candace swore that she would not let the people of Aaru Village be bound by the past forever and that it was up to her to protect their future. The old Guardians were intimidated by her, her young, fiery eyes making it impossible for them to come forward and question her further. As she stormed away from the dispute, Candace noticed a Hydro Vision at the tip of her spear as if a response to her conviction.

How to Get Candace

Candace is a 4-star character added as a permanent 4-star item in all wish banners. Using Primogems, Acquaint Fates, and Intertwined Fates, you can make wishes on the Standard and Character Event Wish Banners to get a copy of her. However, the best time to make wishes on the banner is when Candace is one of the featured characters. By then, the rate of chance to get her will be increased.

Please see our guide here to know more about acquiring characters in Genshin Impact.

Team Role and Playstyle

Candace’s role lies between being a support and damage dealer for the team. She can use her shield to create a barrier and absorb the damage thrown in by the opponents. Aside from that, all her other moves lean towards boosting her team, including herself, and dealing with damage. Her Elemental Burst will enhance the active character’s Elemental Normal Attacks, making her a good damage booster for most characters.

candace 005

With this in mind, the way to maximize her potential is to taunt enemies and have them attack her while raising her shield and then casting her Elemental Burst to increase the damage of her Normal and Charged attacks. In a solo setup, this is pretty easy, and you can simply switch to your main DPS character. But in a coop play setup, only Candace herself gets the boost.

Talents

candace 006

Combat Talents

Normal Attack: Gleaming Spear – Guardian Stance

This talent allows Candace to perform up to 4 consecutive spear strikes if the button is pressed multiple times. Holding the said button down will have her lunge forward and deal damage to opponents in her path. This manner deals higher damage but will consume a certain amount of Stamina.

candace 013 2

Candace can also use this talent from mid-air, which will have her make a Plunging Attack. She will strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AOE Damage upon impact.

Elemental Skill: Sacred Rite: Heron’s Sanctum

“The oath of the guardians is more stalwart yet than the shields they inherit.”

candace 016

Candace’s Elemental Skill can be used in two ways; one is by tapping the talent button, and the other is by holding it down. When tapped, Candace will rush forward with her shield to deal Hydro Damage to opponents. She will raise her shield by holding the button down to form a barrier and block incoming attacks.

Candace’s barrier absorbs damage based on her Max HP and can absorb Hydro damage 250% more effectively. It can last until a certain duration or when the talent button is released.

Candace charges up while raising her shield, and when she finishes charging if the skill button is released, the skill’s duration expires, or when the shield is broken, she will perform a leaping strike that deals Hydro Damage to opponents in front of her.

The basic damage when the skill is tapped, the charged-up damage, and the damage the shield can absorb are all based on Candace’s Max HP. Therefore, the more HP she has, the more damage she can deal with and block off.

Elemental Burst: Sacred Rite: Wagtail’s Tide

“This secret rite has been passed down through Candace’s clan from generation to generation. Though the old faiths have become lost over the years, the sands still protect the heirs of the ancient realm.”

candace 019

Using this talent will have Candace raise her weapon on high to call upon a divine blessing that deals AOE Hydro Damage based on her Max HP. She will then continuously confer the Prayer of the Crimson Crown on the active character, granting them the following effect properties:

  • The character deals increased Elemental Damage with their Normal Attacks.
  • Whenever a character takes the field, they unleash a rippling wave of water that deals Hydro Damage to nearby opponents. However, this can only be triggered in a limited number in the duration of this talent.
  • Characters who wield swords, claymore, and polearms will have their weapons infused with Hydro while under this effect.

The second effect property of the Prayer of the Crimson Crown can only be triggered if you control at least two characters, including Candace, in a party, which is uncommon in a coop play. In such a setup, a rippling wave of water may not be unleashed during Candace’s Elemental Burst.

Passive Talents

Aegis of Crossed Arrows

The barrier that Candace creates is enhanced when this passive talent is unlocked. Because with this activated, if Candace is hit by an attack while holding down Sacred Rite: Heron’s Sanctum, the talent will finish charging instantly. Meaning you can immediately release the shield to perform a fully-charged leaping strike.

Celestial Dome of Sand

Unlocking the Celestial Dome of Sand will enhance the effect of the Prayer of the Crimson Crown created by Candace’s Elemental Burst. With this passive active, if the characters affected by the said effect deal Elemental Damage with their Normal Attacks, that character will have 0.5% increased damage to opponents for every 1,000 points of Candace’s Max HP.

The effect of this passive talent is another reason to increase Candace’s Max HP and spam her Elemental Burst.

Utility: To Dawn’s First Light

Thanks to this utility passive talent, if Candace is in the party, you will consume 20% less Stamina when climbing. However, this cannot be stacked with passive skills with the same effects.

Constellation: Sagitta Scutum

candace 022

Constellation Level 1: Returning Heiress of the Scarlet Sands

Unlocking Candace’s first constellation level will increase the duration of Crimson Crown’s prayer effect created by Sacred Rite: Wagtail’s Tide by 3 seconds.

Constellation Level 2: Moon-Piercing Brilliance

This second constellation level will increase Candace’s Max HP by 20% for 15 seconds when her Elemental Skill hits opponents. This way, the damage of her Elemental Burst and damage boost granted by the Prayer of the Crimson Crown effect is increased. Unlocking this level will affect her playstyle because you would want to hit an opponent with her Elemental Skill before using her Elemental Burst.

Constellation Level 3: Hunter’s Supplication

The third constellation level of Sagitta Scutum will increase the level of Candace’s Elemental Burst and upgrades its maximum level from 10 to 15.

Constellation Level 4: Sentinel Oath

Unlocking Sagitta Scutum’s fourth level will shorten the cool-down time of Candace’s Elemental Skill to be the same as that of the Tapping cool-down. Regardless of how you use the talent, it will have the same cool-down time.

Constellation Level 5: Heterochromatic Gaze

The third constellation level of Sagitta Scutum will increase the level of Candace’s Elemental Burst. It also upgrades its maximum level from 10 to 15.

Constellation Level 6: The Overflow

Candace’s team-boosting capability will be enhanced when the last level of her constellation is unlocked. With this, an attack wave will be unleashed when characters are affected by the Prayer of the Crimson Crown caused by Sacred Rite: Wagtail’s Tide deals Elemental Damage to opponents using Normal Attacks. Such wave deals AOE Hydro Damage equal to 15% of Candace’s Max HP, is considered Elemental Burst Damage, and can be triggered every 2.3 seconds.

The only downside to this effect is that Candace cannot trigger it, making it useless in a coop play setup where you cannot switch to any other character.

How to Build Candace

candace 007 1

Max HP

Candace’s shield has a damage absorption that scales off his Max HP. Similarly, her Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst has damage and damage-boosting effect based on her Max HP. To increase the strength of her shield, her damage, and the damage boost she gives her team, Candace needs a lot of HP.

Physical and Hydro Damage (Non-Conventional)

A non-conventional and not recommended build for Candace is to increase her Physical and Hydro damage. Although she can deal with Hydro Damage from her Elemental Skill, and when her Elemental Burst infuses Hydro to her weapon, the damage granted by these still scales off of her Max HP. This may increase the damage of his normal and charged attacks, but it will compromise her capabilities to receive more damage and boost the team’s damage.

Weapon: Polearm

Polearm is Candace’s weapon, and the ones you need to equip her should increase the stats that boost her supporting capabilities. Among the existing and available polearms as of the writing of this article, you can choose between the damage-boosting ones and the ones that increase her Energy Recharge. As of this guide’s writing, only one polearm has Max HP as its secondary stat. The ones that boost this stat have it on their passive effects.

5-Star Polearms

Staff of Homa

“A “firewood staff” what was once used in ancient and long-lost rituals.”

polearm card staff of homa 1

This 5-star polearm has a secondary stat of Critical Damage, which will easily increase the overall output of any DPS character.

The Staff of Homa’s passive effect, Reckless Cinnabar, increases the character’s HP by at least 20% and provides an ATK bonus based on the weapon user’s max HP. Another effect is that if the character’s remaining HP is below 50%, the ATK bonus will be increased by an additional percentage of the character’s max HP.

This weapon is not the best for Candace, but given her vulnerability while raising her shield with her Elemental Skill, she can take a lot of damage and lose a lot of HP. With the effects of Staff of Homa, the more Candace loses HP, the higher the ATK boost she gets.

Skyward Spine

“A polearm that symbolizes Dvalin’s firm resolve. The upright shaft of this weapon points towards the heavens, clad in the might of sky and wind.”

polearm card skyward spine 1

Skyward Pride is a permanent 5-star item you can get by making wishes on the Standard and Weapon Banners.

This weapon’s secondary stat is Energy Recharge, and its passive effect, called Black Wing, increases the character’s Critical Rate and Attack Speed. Black Wing can occur no more than once every 2 seconds. Additionally, when normal and charged attacks hit opponents, there is a 50% chance it triggers a vacuum blade. The said vacuum blade will deal at least 40% of ATK as damage in a small AOE.

Although not the best weapon for Candace, Skyward Spine will still increase her overall damage output. Since her playstyle involves many Normal Attacks, Candace can easily trigger the additional bonus of this weapon’s passive effect. The secondary stat of this polearm will also allow her to spam her Elemental Burst.

Engulfing Lightning

“A naginata used to “cut grass.” Any army that stands before this weapon will probably be likewise cut down…”

polearm card engulfing lightning

This time-limited 5-star weapon has energy Recharge as its secondary stat and a passive effect titled Timeless Dream: Eternal Stove that increases the ATK of the character by a certain percentage of Energy Recharge over the base 100%. After using an elemental burst, the character will gain 30% Energy Recharge for 12 seconds.

This polearm will not only allow Candace to spam her Elemental Burst, given its low Energy Cost of 60 but also increase the damage of the talent based on her Energy Recharge. This weapon works best paired with the Emblem of Severed Fate artifact set because it increases the damage of the user’s Elemental Burst based on their Energy Recharge.

Primordial Jade Winged-Spear

“A jade polearm made by the archons, capable of slaying ancient beasts.”

polearm card primordial jade spear 1

The Primordial Jade Winged-Spear (PJWS) is the most flexible polearm for characters that lean towards being a damage dealer. Given that the secondary stat of this weapon is a Critical Rate bonus, having this weapon will be easy to build the decent amount needed for consistent critical hits.

Eagle Spear of Justice, PJWS’s passive effect, will increase the character’s ATK by at least 3.2% for 6 seconds after hitting an opponent. You can obtain a max of seven stacks, and while in possession of the maximum possible stacks, the damage the character deals increases by at least 12%. However, this effect can only occur once every 0.3 seconds.

With Candace’s play style involving many high-speed normal and charged attack combos, she will easily trigger the maximum stack of the PJWS’s passive effect.

Vortex Vanquisher

“This sharp polearm can seemingly pierce through anything. When swung, one can almost see the rift it tears in the air.”

polearm card vortex vanquisher

This weapon’s passive effect, Golden Majesty, increases the weapon user’s Shield and ATK stats whenever hitting an opponent. You can stack this effect up to 5 times and double that if a shield protects that character.

Such an effect may boost the strength of Candace’s shield, and since she can hold her shield to block the enemies’ attacks, it can easily stack up.

Calamity Queller

“A keenly honed weapon forged from some strange crystal. Its faint blue light seems to whisper of countless matters now past.”

polearm card calamity queller

With this weapon’s secondary stat, the character using it will greatly increase their maximum ATK and elemental damage by 12%. This makes this a great option for a DPS polearm-type character.

As part of this polearm’s passive effect called Extinguishing Precept, every time the character uses their Elemental Skill, they will obtain the Consummation, increasing their ATK by 3.2% for 20 seconds. You can only stack Consummation up to 6 times, which is a great way to boost the character’s damage if their Elemental Skill has a low cooldown time.

With 6 seconds of cool down time of Candace’s Elemental Skill, she can obtain up to 3 stacks of Consummation from this weapon. If the playstyle you are going for with Candace is of a DPS role, this weapon can be a good option because this style will benefit from its elemental damage boost.

4-Star Polearms

The Catch

“In the distant past, this was the beloved spear of a famed Inazuman bandit.”

polearm card the catch

The Catch is a weapon with Energy Recharge as its secondary stat and a passive effect titled Shanty that increases the Elemental Burst damage of the character and the Critical Rate of that skill.

This 4-star polearm is one of the weapons you can get for free by crafting it with the town Smithy. It is a good alternative to Engulfing Lightning if you make Candace a support character in your team. All you need is to unlock the fishing mini-game feature of the game and catch the necessary materials for it.

Prototype Starglitter

“A hooked spear discovered hidden away in the Blackcliff Forge. The glimmers along the sharp edge are like stars in the night.”

polearm card protottype starglitter

This weapon’s secondary stat is Energy Recharge which can help prepare the character’s Elemental Burst. The passive effect, Magic Affinity, increases the Normal and Charged attack of the character after using an elemental skill. Each stack of Magic Affinity lasts up to 12 seconds, and you can stack them twice.

It is a decent temporary weapon for Candace, especially when you cannot get any good weapon from the Wish Banners. You can obtain this crafting with the town smithy with the necessary materials.

Since the cool-down of Candace’s Elemental Skill is 6 seconds, she can maximize the potential of the Prototype Starglitter.

Deathmatch

“A sharp crimson polearm that was once a gladiator’s priceless treasure. Its awl has been stained by the blood of countless beasts and men.”

polearm card deathmatch 2

This Battle Pass polearm is known for its high Critical Rate bonus as a secondary stat. It can provide the highest possible Critical Rate from any polearm and be considered the 4-star version of the Primordial Jade Winged-Spear. It can give a 36.8% Critical Rate at weapon level 90, much higher than the 22.1% that the Primordial Jade Winged-Spear gives.

Gladiator, this weapon’s passive effect, will increase the user’s ATK and Defense by at least 16% if at least two opponents are nearby. If only one opponent is nearby, then only the user’s ATK increases by at least 24%. Deathmatch is a good alternative to a 5-star polearm if you can spend real money and purchase the game’s Battle Pass.

Deathmatch is a good weapon for Candace, especially if she is one of your DPS characters. With this equipped, she’ll have more chances of dealing Critical hits to opponents.

Blackcliff Pole

“A weapon made of blackcliff and aerosiderite. There is a dark crimson glow on its cold black sheen.”

polearm card blackcliff pole

The Blackcliff Pole spear is one of the best 4-star options for a DPS polearm user because of its secondary stat that gives a Critical Damage Bonus. Press the Advantage’s passive effect increases the character’s ATK by at least 12% for 30 seconds after defeating an enemy. This effect has a maximum stack of 3, and the duration of each stack is independent of the others.

With Candace’s high-speed attacks and easy-to-cast Elemental Skill, using the Blackcliff Pole in situations with smaller and weaker enemies will maximize its features. However, you can only obtain this 4-star polearm by exchanging Masterless Starglitters in the Paimon’s Bargains shop.

3-Star Polearm

Black Tassel

“An exceptionally powerful polearm that also offers a simple but elegant solution to the issue of the easily stained white tassel.”

polearm card black tassel

You can equip Candace with the Black Tassel if you don’t mind a low Base ATK for a weapon. This is a 3-star polearm with a secondary stat of HP. Although this weapon cannot increase Candace’s overall damage output, its HP bonus can help strengthen the shield he creates.

Artifacts

4-Piece Sets

Tenacity of the Millelith

card tenacity of millelith

The 2-piece set increases HP by 20%, and the 4-piece set increases all party members’ ATK and shield strength when the artifact user hits an opponent with an Elemental Skill. This effect lasts 3 seconds but can trigger even if the artifact user is not on the field.

The tenacity of the Millelith is designed for characters that focus on the main role as a supporting character that provides shield and off-field attacks with their Elemental Skills, like Candace. Although she can still trigger the 4-piece set effect of this artifact, she can only do this once every 6 seconds, which is how long it takes for her Elemental Skill to cool down and be used again.

Heart of Depth

card heart of depth

The 2-piece set of this artifact gives the Hydro DMG bonus, and with the 4-piece set, after the character uses an elemental skill, their Normal and Charged attack damage increases by 30% for 15 seconds.

With Candace’s Elemental Skill’s 6 and 9 seconds cooldown time, she can easily trigger the artifact’s effect set. All you have to do is use the talent and continue throwing Normal and Charged attacks. This set is a very good option for a DPS type of playing.

Noblesse Oblige

card noblesse 2

For an off-field support type character with a play style that is more into casting Elemental Burst, the Noblesse Oblige is a good artifact set. With four pieces equipped, the artifact user’s Elemental Burst damage increases by 20%. When the same character uses that talent, all party members will have an ATK boost of 20% for 12 seconds.

Given that one of the best ways for Candace to throw a lot of damage is to spam her Elemental Burst, then the 4-piece Noblesse Oblige will be great for her and her team.

Retracing Bolide

card retracing bolide 3

The 2-piece set of the Retracing Bolide will increase the shield’s strength around the artifact user by 35%. With the 4-piece set, while a shield protects the character, they will gain an increase of 40% to the damage of their Normal and Charged attacks.

The devs designed this artifact for DPS characters who can summon a shield over themselves and deal damage with their Normal or Charged attacks. However, you can only maximize the 2-piece set for Candace. This is because the shield she creates does not stay on as she makes other attack moves.

Shimenawa’s Reminiscence

card shimenawa

This artifact’s 2-piece set will grant users an 18% increase to their ATK. With four pieces equipped, an additional bonus will be granted to the user depending on their current Energy. If that character has 15 or more energy, they will lose 15 more energy after using an elemental skill, but the damage of their Normal, Charged, and Plunging attacks will be increased by 50% for 10 seconds.

Since Candace’s play style involves a lot of Normal Attacks, the 4-piece set of this artifact can be a good choice to boost her damage.

Gladiator’s Finale

card gladiators finale

The devs designed this artifact set to fit melee characters whose play style involves flawlessly normal attacks. Equipping the character with four pieces of this artifact set will increase their ATK by 18% and further damage their normal attacks by 35% if they use a sword, polearm, or claymore as a weapon.

Candace’s playstyle mostly uses Normal Attacks, and the 4-piece set effects of this artifact will boost her overall damage output.

2-Piece Sets Combination

Tenacity of Millelith, Retracing Bolide, and Heart of Depth

You can combine the 2-piece set of these artifacts for Candace to have a decent build. The Tenacity of Millelith will increase her HP, Retracing Bolide will enhance the strength of her shield, and Crimson Witch of Flames will grant her Hydro Damage Bonus. You can try mixing and matching these three sets and see what works.

Artifact Parts’ Main Stat

diona arti tenacity 1

Since the damage absorption of her shield, her damage output, and the damage bonus granted by her talent to her and her team all scale off of Candace’s Max HP, it is recommended to equip her with Circlet of Logos, Goblet of Eonothem, and Sands of Eon that have HP as their main stat. For the Goblet of Eonothem, you can choose one that gives a Hydro Damage bonus, which will still work fine with her.

Candace’s Character Ascension

What is Character Ascension in Genshin Impact

Each character has a certain level cap depending on their current ascension phase, and a character can be ascended to 6 phases to reach the maximum character level of 90. Passive talents and special ascension stats will also be unlocked when a character is ascended to certain phases.

Ascension Materials

Ascending a character requires several items as ascension materials, and for Candace, we list the materials and the amount needed for each ascension phase below.

Mora: 420,000

other mora 2

Mora is Genshin Impact’s main currency unit. It is accepted in all the nations of Teyvat and is used to upgrade weapons, artifacts, talents, and character levels.

Light Guiding Tetrahedron: 46

boss drop world liht guiding tetrahedron

This item is a core component of a mysterious ruined machine that has not forgotten the dreams of its masters or their duties, such as building a thousand places, administering three thousand machines, and even recreating a paradise now buried beneath the desert sands. This core component can be obtained when defeating the Tomb Guard of the Desert King, known as the Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network found in the Hypostyle Desert, Sumeru.

Henna Berry: 168

specialty henna berry

Henna berry is a fruit that grows even in the most hostile of desert environments. Its extremely bright color makes it look beautiful and even lovelier against a backdrop of yellow sand. This vibrant crimson fruit has become an important part of the desert people’s lives as it is said to have been used as a dye for the fiery banner of the Eremites.

Eremite Red Fabric

The Eremites use these red cloths to cover their eyes for reasons only known to them. One is believed to be because a seasoned warrior can detect weaknesses from their foe’s eyes and thus take advantage. Another is that the Eremites are more than convinced that all things betray, even their own eyes. While others believe that when the King of the Desert was still alive, his people covered their eyes as they dared not look upon him, whose brilliance was beyond that of the sun.

The red fabric that the Eremites use to cover their eyes come in several types and decorations, but they are all red. Some are slightly torn like the Faded Red Satin, some are silk trimmed with simple decorations, and others use a red brocade woven with golden thread.

These materials can only be obtained when you defeat all Eremite enemies, and different types are dropped depending on their level. The amount needed for each material type to ascend Candace is as follows: Faded Red Satin: 18; Trimmed Red Silk: 30; Rich Red Brocade: 36.

Varunada Lazurite

These mineral crystals can be obtained from boss enemies manipulating the Hydro element. Boss enemies include the Hydro Hypostasis, Oceanid, Tartaglia, aka Childe (Weekly Boss), and Azhdaha. You can also get these from quest and commissions rewards by crafting them using the ones with lower rarity levels.

The amounts needed for each are as follows: Varunada Lazurite Sliver: 1; Varunada Lazurite Fragments: 9; Varunada Lazurite Chunks: 9; Varunada Lazurite Gemstones: 6.

Candace’s Talent Level-Up Materials

What are the Talent Level-Up Materials for Candace

Aside from Mora and Eremite Red Fabric, you will need a few Tears of the Calamitous God to increase Candace’s combat talents.

Tears of the Calamitous God

boss drop weekly raiden tears of the calamitous god

This item is shaped like the baleful Eye of Stormy Judgment, representing how even a baleful gaze must wash with tears. Since they can bring down curses and catastrophes with a mere gaze, it might seem natural to blame life’s misfortunes on calamitous deities.

Tears of the Calamitous God are weekly drop items you can obtain by defeating the Everlasting Lord of Arcane Wisdom, Shouki no Kami, the Prodigal in Joururi Workshop Trounce Domain in Sumeru.

Talent Level Book: Admonition

The talent-level books of the “Admonition” series are needed for Candace’s combat talents. You can obtain these by completing the challenge in the Steeple of Ignorance Domain of Master: Full Moon, available on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

These books include The Teachings of Admonition, Guide to Admonition, and The Philosophies of Admonition. The last two can be crafted using the crafting bench in the town.
