The Subterranean Trials of Drake and Serpent is part of the From Dusk to Dawn in Byakuyakoku quest series in Genshin Impact. It is one of the many world quests you need to complete to access and explore the region named Enkanomiya fully.
This world quest series will be unlocked and be available to you once you complete the Entrance to Tokoyo world quest, which will give you access to the mysterious region beneath Watatsumi Island.
As part of the Subterranean Trials of Drake and Serpent, you need to restore something called the Reins of Revival, which will be used to access a deeper area where the Bathysmal Vishap Herd is locked away.
To do this, you need to find its fragments scattered and hidden away in critical locations around the Dainichi Mikoshi.
In this guide, we will walk you through how and where to get the Three Fragments of the Reins of Revival so that you can complete the quest in the shortest time possible.
As mentioned by Aru, a nether person of the past projected by the properties of Byakuyakoku, the three locations are The Narrows, the Evernight Temple, and the Serpent’s Heart.
After Aru fills you in with the details of the next task, an achievement will be unlocked, and this one is titled “Of Sun and Moon.”
Dreams in the Gaps
This subquest is the mission you need to fulfill to get the hidden fragment in The Narrows.
The easiest way to get to where the fragment is is to teleport to the Waypoint on the southern part of The Narrows.
A little to the eastern side of the Teleport Waypoint is a lower area with a small waterfall and a door to ruin next to it.
The area will have a Bathysmal Vishap lurking about it, and you have to defeat it before you can interact with the mechanism used to enter the ruin.
Outside the ruin, entrance is the Of Sun and Moon mechanism used to switch between the Evernight and the Whitenight state of Enkanomiya. Make sure that the region’s current state is in Evernight so that you can see and interact with the Triangular Mechanism inside the ruin entrance.
Hitting the Triangular Mechanism with a direct attack will activate it and open the metal gate.
Go inside the ruin until you get to the area where a Seelie is floating around.
Follow this Seelie as it moves to the upper area by going through a hole in the ceiling.
Upon ascending, you will come across a Place of Worship with a Mooncrux. Go near it to collect the Mooncrux and use the power of Evernight later.
In this upper area, you will see another Enkanomiya state switch next to an area protected by a blue barrier. To take down this barrier, you need to switch the state of Enkanomiya to Whitenight.
When you switched to Whitenight, the Triangular Mechanism also disappeared along with the blue barrier. But, since you collected the Mooncrux earlier, the power of Evernight will have the Triangular Mechanism appear again by just going near its base.
Open the Exquisite Chest to get the fragment of the Reins of Revival in The Narrow.
The Heart of Ouroboros
For the fragment hidden away in The Serpent’s Heart, you will be following the tasks given under the quest titled The Heart of Ouroboros.
There is a Teleport Waypoint right at the old structure where the fragment can be obtained. If you have not unlocked that Waypoint yet, you can teleport to any waypoint available on that part of Enkanomiya and glide your way to the exact location.
As mentioned above, the site is an old structure that looked like a tower.
At the center of this building is a Sunfire Phantasm, and for you to be able to interact with it, you need to switch to a different state of Enkanomiya.
Go outside the building, look for a nearby Of Sun and Moon mechanism, and switch the region’s state to Evernight.
After doing so, go back inside the structure, and you will see that five symbol markings have appeared on the floor.
When you activate it, triangle markings will appear next to the five symbols, and the doorways adjacent to the symbols will have a barrier activated as well.
If you try to walk through the said barriers, you will be sent back to the center of the building.
Looking closely at the symbols on the floor, the order of how you should walk through the barriers is indicated by the number of triangle markings next to it.
After going through all five barriers in the right order, an Exquisite Chest will appear, and one of the items inside it is the Fragment of the Reins of Revival.
The Trail of Drake and Serpent
This last sub-quest will be the mission to obtain the third and last fragment of the Reins of Revival. The location is the southern area of the Evernight Temple.
If you had not explored the entire Enkanomiya region before and only followed the quest Entrance to Tokoyo, you mostly have not unlocked all the Teleport Waypoints. The Evernight Temple was not part of the areas you need to traverse while doing the said quest, and thus it is the least explored one.
The easiest way to get to the next area is to teleport to the Waypoint at the eastern part of Dainichi Mikoshi. Then, glide down to the piece of floating rock closest to the Evernight Temple.
At the end of the said floating rock, you will find an orb-like thing that works similar to the Phase Gates. This transport system will teleport you to the western part of Evernight Temple.
Once you get to the area, go deep into the cave and stay on the east side.
When you get past a Thunderhelm Lawachurl, climb up the cliffs to the east until you see an old structure or building opening.
Please take note that if Enkanomiya is in Whitenight state, there will be a barrier over this opening to prevent you from entering. If this is the case, go back down where you fought the Thunderhelm Lawachurl and follow that path leading to the West’s ruins.
There will be Of Sun and Moon mechanism that you can use to switch Enkanomiya to Evernight state.
Inside the eastern ruin, look for an opening above and climb up there to ascend to the upper area of Evernight Temple.
Once on the surface, walk around the huge rock and glide to the southern area.
You will need to follow and investigate three claw marks made by the Bathysmal Vishaps when you get there.
The said marks will lead you to the secret room where the last fragment is kept.
At the end of the path, you will see another Of Sun and Moon mechanism, and if it is Evernight, a Daisy of Night will also appear near the ruined wall. You will not see this second mechanism if it is Whitenight. Therefore, you need to switch to the correct state.
However, the Daisy of Night is sealed because Rifthounds lurk around it. Defeat a few waves of these monsters to remove the seal on the mechanism and interact with it.
Activating the Daisy of Night will open the wall near it, which will be the entrance to the secret room.
How to Solve the Secret Room Puzzle in the Evernight Temple
When you get inside the secret room, you will be greeted by a puzzle where you need to open metal gates to go further.
This puzzle involves an Of Sun and Moon mechanism, a Triangular Mechanism, and two levers on two separate columns. These mechanisms will close and open the metal gates and move an entire wall.
Follow the steps below to adjust the gates and the said wall easily.
- Step 1: Activate the lever on the right column.
- Step 2: Activate the lever on the left column.
- Step 3: Using the Of Sun and Moon mechanism, switch Enkanomiya’s state to Whitenight in order for you to see the Triangular Mechanism’s complete form.
- Step 4: Hit the Triangular Mechanism several times until it moves to cover the opening at the center.
- Step 5: Activate the lever on the left column once more. Since the stone wall is already at the center, the metal gate for this position can not close down, but the other closed gate that leads further into the secret room will now be opened.
Now that the path is clear go to the secret room, which is the area where a sealed Exquisite Chest can be found.
When you get to the secret room, a Rockfond Rifthound and a Thundercraven Rifthound will appear along with its Whelps.
You need to defeat them first before you can collect the treasure chest’s contents.
The Exquisite Chest will also hold the third and last fragment of the Reins of Revival.
