The Last of Us was a pretty dark narrative about forming relationships in an unforgiving world, but fans weren’t ready for the places the sequel would go when The Last of Us Part II released back in 2020. With HBO currently gearing up for the premiere of their Last of Us series based on the first game, we have confirmation that they are also planning to adapt the sequel focused on Ellie.
This was confirmed via a synopsis in Empire Magazine (via @DomTheBomb):
With the series planning to cover Left Behind and expand on some elements from the first game, I have a feeling that the show won’t be able to cover the entirety of Part I, and will instead leave some story from the game to take place in the second season.
Since there is a significant time jump between Part I and Part II, I think that Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have planned to inject some more story taking place in between both games, and that could constitute one or two more seasons. The whole deal with Abby will probably take place sometime in Season 3 or 4.
Then again, I’m just speculating here. What are the odds they do something completely different that nobody could have even guessed?
For now, fans await the premiere of The Last of Us on HBO Max this coming Jan. 16, 2023. The Last of Us games are currently playable for PlayStation 4|5.
