The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to come out this week, and Illumination and Nintendo have been hard at work at promoting the release of the film. Just in, we have a new spot that gives us more on Mario and Luigi, as well as the Tanooki costume that lets Mario fly.
Check this out:
For a movie called The Super Mario ‘Bros.’, we don’t really get that much on the dynamic between Mario and Luigi. So far, the movie has kind of been obsessed with selling the magical world of the Mushroom Kingdom. They’ve even been sparing when it comes to Chris Pratt’s Mario voice which we barely hear in the official trailers.
Even if that’s the case, I think Pratt will actually do a good job in the role, and I can’t wait to see this more scrappy, movie version of Mario which has been given a character arc and more to work with.
Here’s the synopsis:
While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt; Jurassic World and The LEGO Movie franchises) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day; It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi.
With the assistance of a Mushroom Kingdom resident Toad (Keegan-Michael Key; The Lion King) and some training from the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy;The Queen’s Gambit), Mario taps into his own power.
Watch out for The Super Mario Bros. Movie when it hits cinemas on April 7.
