The player still has plenty of things to do in the post-game of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, some of which are taking on the former Team Star squads and their bosses again in a rematch, participating in the Academy Ace Tournament, or rechallenging every single Pokemon Gym Leader in a rematch.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet: Ultimate Gym Leader Rematch Guide

In this Ultimate Gym Leader Rematch guide, you will learn how to defeat every Pokemon Gym Leader in a rematch in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!

Consider this your spoiler alert, as several post-game details will be discussed!

Rematch Unlock

The player is returned to their dorm room and summoned to Director Clavell’s office after completing “The Way Home,” the game’s final main quest. Exit the dorm room and select the “Director’s Office”  on the menu.

After some dialogue, Nemona suggests holding a Pokemon battle at the academy to commemorate the player’s achievement of becoming a Champion. Top Champion Geeta then enters the room and says the Pokemon League would be delighted to help organize this contest.

After that, however, Top Champion Geeta says she cannot participate in this contest because she has much work to do. However, she might have some free time to participate if the player helps with her work.

Select “I’d be delighted to help!” from the prompt then Top Champion Geeta will ask the player to conduct an inspection on every Pokemon Gym in the Paldea region on her behalf so that they can continue to serve as a source of power and motivation for every trainer aspiring to the Champion Rank.

This can be accomplished by entering each Pokemon Gym and challenging the Gym Leader to a rematch.

The player can now challenge the Paldea region’s Gym Leaders to a rematch in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!

Instead of using Fighting-type Pokemon against Larry’s Braviary and Staraptor, it is advised that the player use a Pokemon with a type that is neutral to or can resist Flying-type moves.

This is because Braviary and Staraptors Flying-type moves can deal super effective damage to Fighting-type Pokemon, which can make using them risky. So, it’s advised that the player use a Pokemon that is not a Fighting-type but has Fighting-type moves.

Tips

It is advised that the player use Pokemon that are Level 67 and higher with Dark-type, Fairy-type, and Steel-type moves, as Dark-type moves are great against Ryme’s Banette, Houndstone, and Terastallized Toxtricity; Fairy-type moves are great against Ryme’s Spiritomb; and Steel-type moves are great against Ryme’s Mimikyu.

The player is also recommended to use Dark-type Pokemon because they can resist Ghost and Dark-type moves that Ryme’s Pokemon may use.

Kingambit can be a great Dark-type Pokemon to use as it can resist; some, even completely, will not affect many of Ryme’s moves. However, watch out for Spiritomb’s Will-O-Wisp, a Fire-type move that Kingambit is weak to, Mimikyu and Houndstone’s Play Rough, and Toxtricity’s Overdrive, a Fairy-type and an Electric-type move that will deal the normal amount of damage to Kingambit. Also, Kingambit can learn many different Dark-type and Steel-type moves which are great against almost all of Ryme’s Pokemon.

Normal-type Pokemon are also recommended because they are entirely immune to Ghost-type moves, used mainly by Ryme’s Pokemon.

Farigiraf can be a great Normal-type Pokemon to use as, again, it is immune to Ghost-type moves, and it can learn some Dark-type, Fairy-type, Steel-type, and even Ghost-type moves which are great against Ryme’s Pokemon. However, one disadvantage of using Farigiraf is that it is vulnerable to Dark-type moves and will be damaged by a wide range of moves.
