Format and Schedules
While LoL Worlds 2024 follows a format similar to last year’s, the host has made some key changes. The tournament is split into three stages of face-offs, detailed as follows:
Play-Ins (September 25-September 29)
The play-ins will kick off at Riot Games Arena in Berlin, featuring 8 of the 20 teams qualified for LoL Worlds 2024. This stage includes the 1st and 2nd seeds from VCS and PCS, teams from LLA and CBLOL, and the 3rd seeds from LEC and LCS.
These 8 teams will compete in a best-of-three double-elimination bracket. The top two teams from the winner’s bracket after round 2 will advance to the next stage. Meanwhile, the two losers from round 2 of the winner’s bracket will face off against the two winners from round 1 of the loser’s bracket to secure the final two spots for advancement.
Swiss Stage (October 3-October 13)
The 4 teams from the Play-ins will join the 1st and 2nd seeds from the LEC and LCS, the top 4 seeds from the LPL, the MSI winners, Gen G, and the remaining top 3 seeds from the LCK, making a total of 16 teams. These teams will be matched into 8 best-of-one games based on their seeding.
After the 1st round, a new draw will pair teams with the same record for the 2nd round. This process will be repeated until the third round, matching teams with even records until they either reach three wins to advance or three losses to be eliminated from the tournament. On the 9th day of the inter-regional play, 8 teams will move on to the knockouts.
Note: While the initial rounds are best-of-one, all advancement and elimination matches will be best-of-three. The tournament host also made it clear that “Teams will not face rematches against previous opponents.”
Knockout Stage (October 17-October 27)
The 8 teams advancing from the Swiss stage will head to Paris for the Knockouts, where the top two winners will be decided through best-of-5, single-elimination bracket.
Grand Final (November 2)
The Knockouts will lead to the Grand Final at the 02 Arena in London, where we determine the LoL Worlds 2024 Champion, marking the end of the tournament.
Conclusion
The LoL Worlds 2024 competition has a massive prize pool of $2,225,000, with the winner taking $450,000. If you can’t make it in person, you can catch all the action live on the LoL Esports official page to stay updated.
