There has been a lot of renewed interest for Cyberpunk ever since the Edgerunners anime came out on Netflix, and a lot of people are loving Studio Trigger’s original take on Night City.
Though you won’t see characters like David walking around the game, he was originally conceived to look like a character from Cyberpunk 2077. This was shared by Edgerunners showrunner Rafal Jaki on Twitter:
Marek Madej, who provided the concept art for David here, is actually a senior concept artist for CD Projekt Red, so essentially Trigger was working on a design from art that would have fit into the world of the Cyberpunk game—they just added their own anime flare to it like the big hair and more exaggerated proportions.
If this is how David is supposed to look like in the game, I’m curious about what the other characters would have looked like through a more realistic lens. I’m sure there are a lot of fans who would like to mod some version of Lucy in the game; but it would probably be hard to try and emulate Rebecca who has the body of an anime loli.
For now, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is sitting on top of a lot of great reviews, and has renewed interest in CDPR’s game. Though the anime is pretty self-contained, Night City is large enough that it can tell a completely different story with a new set of characters.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is now streaming on Netflix. Cyberpunk 2077 is now playable for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4|5.
