We’re heard about cursed video tapes before, but what about a cursed video game?

Choose or Die: A Retro Video Game is Cursed in New Trailer from Netflix

This new trailer from Netflix for Choose or Die imagines a retro video game in the middle of a Saw meets The Ring plot. Watch this:

After firing up a lost 80s survival horror game, a young coder unleashes a hidden curse that tears reality apart, forcing her to make terrifying decisions and face deadly consequences.

Looking at the trailer, you can see that the game Cursor has some inspiration for the real-life strategy game Rogue. I think it’s also a hint that they’re taking inspiration from the Rogue game, seeing that Cursor came out in the 80s, and Rogue came out in 1980.

We also see a Nightmare on Elm Street poster in the background, and Freddy Kreuger actor Robert Englund is part of the cast. It’s also seems like a case of meta-casting when it comes to putting Asa Butterfield in the movie. Though he’s best known by audiences as the lead of Netflix’s Sex Education, he’s also a professional eSports player and is part of Team Liquid. Forget his acting skills, because he can professionally compete in Smash and DOTA as well.

With a release date so close, I wonder why we’re only getting a trailer for this movie now. Either way, I think it will be a fun romp for anyone who loves 80s horror and video games. It really hits that nostalgia spot for the Stranger Things target audience.

Choose or Die comes to Netflix this April 15.
