The Submersible is only one of two underwater vehicles in GTA 5.
Underwater travel is probably the least preferred method of getting around Los Santos and Blaine County in GTA 5. Nevertheless, six different underwater vehicles are available between GTA 5 and GTA Online, two of which are playable in GTA 5, while all six can be acquired and driven in GTA Online.

This guide will show you how to get the Submersible in GTA 5.
Kraken Submersible
The Kraken Submersible is a sub-aquatic vehicle produced by Kraken Submersibles in the Grand Theft Auto HD universe games. Kraken makes three of the six sub-aquatic vehicles in GTA 5 and GTA Online – The Kraken Kraken, the Kraken Submersible, and the Kraken Avisa.
Story-wise, players get a first glimpse of the Submersible in the pre-heist mission named ‘Minisub,’ where Trevor steals a Submersible from the Port of Los Santos. The other time the Submersible appears in one of the story missions is in the Merryweather Heist, where Trevor uses the Submersible to scout the waters.
Compared to the other Kraken sub-aquatic vehicle – the Kraken Kraken – the Submersible is visually less modern, with hoses and railings exposed on the exterior of the aquatic vehicle.
Both sub-aquatic vehicles share a dive limit of 500 ft. However, the Submersible is slower and less maneuverable than the Kraken due to its single rear-mounted propeller.
Where to find the Kraken Submersible in GTA 5
You can try two ways to get the Submersible in GTA 5 – purchase the Sonar Collections Dock or steal the Submersible from the Sandy Shores Airfield with a Cargobob. Both of these require you to complete The Merryweather Heist first.
Sonar Collections Dock
If you have enough cash to spare, the quickest way to acquire a Submersible in GTA 5 is by buying out the Sonar Collections Dock for $250,000.
You can find the Sonar Collections Dock at Paleto Cove in Blaine County. However, you must complete The Merryweather Heist first to purchase the property. After buying the Sonar Collections Dock, a Submersible will regularly spawn at the dock.
Sandy Shores Airfield
The Submersible only will regularly spawn at the Sandy Shores Airfield if you choose the ‘offshore’ approach when completing the Merryweather Heist.
Like the Sonar Collections Dock method above, the Sandy Shores Airfield method will require you to complete The Merryweather Heist first. After which, the Submersible will regularly spawn in the airfield’s garages.
Unfortunately, the only reliable way to take the Submersible from the Sandy Shores Airfield is to use a Cargobob chopper to lift it from its location.
The Submersible will only spawn in the Sandy Shores Airfield if you’re playing as Trevor.
Underwater Exploration
There is a good reason underwater vehicles aren’t as widespread as other vehicles in GTA 5 – there isn’t much to see underwater in GTA 5. However, there are 12 Hidden Packages that players can only acquire through sub-aquatic vehicles such as the Kraken and Submersible. So knowing where to find these two underwater vehicles is only the beginning of a much more interesting underwater adventure in GTA 5.
