Learn how to find the Grub in the Resting Grounds in Hollow Knight!
Team Cherry’s Metroidvania action-adventure game, Hollow Knight, follows the journey of a nameless warrior called the Knight as he travels through Hallownest, now a kingdom ruined by a supernatural disease. As the Knight journeys through Hallownest, he will encounter various characters that will help fully unravel the story in the game. Some of these characters are cute little creatures called Grubs.
Grubs are small green creatures trapped inside glass jars that the Knight will find throughout Hallownest. These Grubs were trapped by a Void creature named The Collector, who loves to collect dead and alive bugs all around Hallownest and preserve them in glass jars.
The Knight will know if there is a Grub nearby as its high-pitched crying can be heard in its general direction. Then, once the Knight finds one, the Knight can free them by striking the glass jar with the Nail to break it. After the Knight frees a Grub, it will do a little high-pitched shout of joy and burrow into the ground to return to its colony with the Grubfather.
There are a total of 46 Grubs all over Hallownest, and there are a few rewards for freeing a specific number of Grubs:
- For the first four Grubs found, the Grubfather, found in the northwesternmost part of the Forgotten Crossroads, will reward the Knight with Geo (10 Geo for the first Grub, 20 Geo for the second, 30 Geo for the third, and 40 Geo for the fourth Grub found).

This guide will teach you how to find all the Grubs in the Resting Grounds!
Resting Grounds Grub
There is only one Grub in the Resting Grounds area. One can be found inside a hidden breakable wall on the southeastern side of the Resting Grounds.
The Knight will encounter various enemies in Royal Waterways. Still, the Knight will specifically encounter the following enemies on the way to the Grub in the Resting Grounds: a Winged Sentry, a Great Husk Sentry, Entombed Husks, and a Belfly.
Before the Knight can find the Grub that was mentioned, it is required that the Knight has the Mantis Claw ability, which allows the Knight to cling to walls and jump off of them. The Knight must also purchase the Lumafly Lantern, which helps the player see in the dark, from Sly in Dirtmouth. Also, even though not needed, it would help if the Knight has the Monarch Wings ability, which allows the Knight to perform a double jump in mid-air, or the Mothwing Cloak ability, which allows the Knight to perform a horizontal dash forward. Finding the Grub in the Resting Grounds will be no challenge with this item and these abilities.
To find the Grub in the Resting Grounds, this is what the Knight must do:
- Starting from the Resting Grounds Stagway Station Bench, head to the left to exit the area, drop down to the bottom of the room, take the exit on the left side of the room, then head to the leftmost side of the next room and take the exit.
- Next, head to the left, drop down on the next exit that leads downwards, head to the right, drop down the gap to the bottom of the room, continue heading to the right, jump up the elevated platform, drop down the gap on the right, continue heading to the right where the Knight will encounter a Winged Sentry and a Great Husk Sentry, take the exit on the rightmost part of the room, then, in the room with the big elevator, take the next exit on the right.
- Then, the next room will be dark, where the Lumafly Lantern will help light the room up. Head to the right, where the Knight will encounter an Entombed Husk; then, at the end of the path, the wall is breakable. Strike the wall a few times to break it.
- After that, continue heading to the right, jump up the elevated platform, drop down the gap on the right, continue heading to the right, drop down the platforms on the right, head to the right, jump across the gap towards the platform on the right where there is an Entombed Husk under it, continue heading to the right, jump across the gap towards the platform below on the right, jump up the elevated platform on the right where the Knight will encounter another Entombed Husk.
- Then, just after the Entombed Husk, head up the next gap above, where there is a breakable wall. Jump up and strike the breakable ceiling to open a path.
- Finally, head up the path where the Knight will encounter a Belfly and another Entombed Husk (it is worth mentioning that there is a Geo Chest on the left), then head to the right where the Knight will find a Grub inside a glass jar! The Knight can now strike the glass jar and free the Grub!
After finding the Grub in the Resting Grounds, the Knight is one step closer to finding them all, receiving the Grubberfly’s Elegy Charm and unlocking the Metamorphosis Achievement!
