Master Jean, as what Mondstadters call her, is the most reliable member of the Knights of Favonius, who almost everyone in the City of Freedom goes to whenever they need help. Staying true to her title, Jean has a role that leans towards being the team’s healer while dealing damage to the opponents.
Jean Gunnhildr was trained in all the things a knight must know and all the qualities they must exhibit. She was also trained to maintain peak swordsmanship and physical fitness. All this is not only because she was aiming to be a knight but because the duty to serve Mondstadt has always been in the Gunnhildr Clan.
How to Get Jean
Jean is one of the permanent 5-star characters in both the Standard Wish Banner and the Time-Limited Character Event Wish Banners. You need Primogems or Intertwined and Acquaint Fates to make wishes on the said banners. Please see this guide to know more about getting characters in Genshin Impact.
Team Role and Build
Jean’s team role is designed to be a support character. Since the element of her Vision is Anemo, she works well against most enemies except those immune to the said element like Anemo Slimes and Specters. But since her regular attacks do physical damage, she could still provide decent damage support to the team.
Jean’s elemental burst instantly heals all party members, recovering a huge amount of HP that fully heals everyone many times. This talent also creates a Dandelion Field that continuously regenerates the HP of characters inside it, and enemies entering and entering this field will suffer damage.
One of Jean’s passive talents, Wind Companion, gives her regular attacks a 50% chance to heal all party members. The HP amount recovered through this talent equals 15% of Jean’s ATK.
This talent needs Jean to keep making normal attacks to have more chances of triggering the healing effect. When more than one enemy is hit and activates a heal, the amount of HP that the entire party members get is multiplied by the number of enemies hit.
All of Jean’s healing scales off of her ATK. Most players build Jean’s stat almost similar to that of a DPS character.
Given Jean’s healing capabilities based on her talents, leaning more towards a damage dealer is better. If you do this, you would want her to have a high ATK, and more high ATK also means a higher amount of HP that Jean can heal.
Weapons
The weapons to use for Jean, like all other characters, depends on the build and play style that you want her to be. You need something that increases Jean’s ATK for the hybrid support type—a character that both heals the party and deals damage.
Aquila Favonia
This 5-star weapon is probably the best for Jean to maximize her kit as a hybrid support character.
This sword has the highest base ATK of 674 with an additional 20% ATK bonus from its passive effect. Another effect is that if Jean takes damage, she gets healed with an HP amount equivalent to 100% of her ATK.
Although this weapon’s secondary stat is Physical Damage bonus, which does not affect Jean’s heal to the party, it can boost the damage of her regular attacks.
Skyward Blade
This sword is also 5-star in rarity but has a lower base ATK than the Aquila Favonia. Its secondary stat is an Energy Recharge Rate bonus which makes up for the 80 energy cost of Jean’s elemental burst.
Based on this weapon’s stats and passive effect bonuses, it is suitable for a Jean that focuses on healing and would need her elemental burst to be ready most of the time.
Summit Shaper
The Summit Shaper may not be the most aesthetically suiting weapon for Jean, but the secondary stat that increases ATK boosts the HP amount of her healing.
However, the passive effect of this 5-star sword is useless unless you have a shielder in the team.
Amenoma Kageuchi
This 4-star weapon is one of the swords you can craft via the city blacksmith. Its secondary stat is ATK which is suitable for Jean’s healing power.
The passive effect of this sword can be maximized by Jean’s elemental skill, which has a very low cooldown. This effect is helpful for the energy requirement of Jean’s elemental burst because it gives the talent more uptime, thus more healing amount to provide to the team.
Other Swords
All other swords like The Flute, Lion’s Roar, Royal Longsword, Festering Desire, Favonius Sword, and Sacrificial Sword can still be used for a healer or hybrid-built Jean. However, the ones listed above are the best to use for her.
If you aim to build a DPS Jean, weapons that increase her damage output should be considered. These swords include Mistsplitter Reforged, Primordial Jade Cutter, the Black Sword, and Blackcliff Longsword.
Artifacts
Maiden Beloved
The Maiden Beloved is the most accessible artifact set to equip for healers because of the character healing effectiveness bonus from the 2-piece set. The 4-piece set of this artifact further increases the healing received by all party members after the character equipped with this artifact set uses an elemental skill or elemental burst.
Gladiator’s Finale and Shimenawa’s Reminiscence
Since Jean’s healing amount scales off of her maximum ATK points, a combination of a 2-piece set Gladiator’s Finale and Shimenawa’s Reminiscence can be a good choice.
You can also replace one of these 2-piece with the 4-star artifact Brave Heart.
Healing with ATK Increase Bonus
You can also combine a 2-piece Maiden Beloved with another 2-piece set of Gladiator’s Finale, Shimenawa’s Reminiscence, or Brave Heart.
Ascension Materials
The ascension materials you need to farm to ascend Jean to the maximum level and power are listed below.
Hurricane Seed
This butterfly of pure Anemo energy can only be obtained by defeating the Anemo Hypostasis.
Dandelion Seed
A Mondstadt exclusive or local specialty; you can gather some of these items by casting Anemo attacks to dandelions that you see all around the Mondstadt.
Vayuda Turquoise Silvers, Fragments, Chunks, and Gemstones
These mineral crystals can be obtained from boss enemies that use Anemo. You can also get these from quest and commissions rewards, and crafting these is also possible.
Damaged, Stained, and Ominous Mask
These items are masks worn by the Hillicurls. You can collect these by defeating the said monsters.
Talent Level-Up Materials
Aside from Mora and Hillichurl Masks, you also need Dvalin’s Plume to increase the level of Jean’s active talents. The last item mentioned can only be obtained by defeating the Stormterror Dvalin.
The talent books you need to collect and/, or craft are the Teachings, Resistance, and Philosophies of Resistance.
