One of the Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Shae Katha Shrine or Shae Katha’s Blessing. The shrine itself is no challenge at all. As you enter the Shae Katha Shrine, Link can access the shrine’s chest, and he will also reach the altar and talk to the monk immediately. The real challenge is completing the Serpent’s Jaws Shrine Quest – a pre-requisite to access Shae Katha Shrine. In this guide, you will learn how to complete the Serpent’s Jaws Shrine Quest to access and complete Shae Katha Shrine and obtain the chest inside.

Link is rewarded with Spirit Orbs for completing Shrines. You can exchange these Spirit Orbs for more Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels. A total of 120 Shrines stand all over Hyrule so that Link can get 120 Spirit Orbs. With these orbs, you can choose whether you want Link to have more Hearts or more Stamina.

The Shae Katha Shrine can be found just ahead of the Spring of Courage at the very north end of the Zonai Ruins and Damel Forest. You can find the entrance to the path that leads to the Spring of Courage and the Shae Katha Shrine if you head east, along the path from Pumaag Nitae Shrine (the same way as the path from Lake Hylia). The Shae Katha Shrine is one of six shrines in the Lake Tower region.

As mentioned above, Link must first complete the Serpent’s Jaws Shrine Quest for the Shae Katha Shrine to appear.

Serpent’s Jaws Shrine Quest

Start the Serpent’s Jaws Shrine Quest, follow the path near the Pumaag Nitae Shrine, and head east until you find the Rito bard named Kass. Talk to him, and he will tell you an ancient verse about the area:

“Where the forest dragon splays its jaws,

a shrine sleeps with noble cause.”

Then, Kass will reveal that the forest the verse refers to is Damel Forest, which you can find just north of the area. After the interaction with Kass, the Serpent’s Jaws Shrine Quest will be started.

If you look at the map, you will see that there is a river called the Dracozu River just north of where you saw Kass. This river looks like a dragon or a serpent with Dracozu Lake as its head. Dracozu Lake flows through the Damel Forest to the north of the Zonai Ruins.

To complete the Serpent’s Jaws Shrine Quest, you must reach the Spring of Courage and offer a Farosh’s Scale. After that, the Shae Katha Shrine will appear! To do just that, you must find a Farosh’s Scale first.

Farosh’s Scales

You can find Farosh’s Scale from – you guessed it – a giant, long, and lightning-filled dragon named Farosh. The closest area to the Spring of Courage where you can find this magnificent giant creature is in Lake Hylia, west of the Spring of Courage, or in Lake Floria near Floria bridge just east of the Faron Tower. It is essential to mention that Farosh only appears at the northwestern part of Lake Hylia at midnight and Lake Floria at 6 PM and 8 PM.

To get a Farosh’s Scale from Farosh, you need to hit it with an arrow. However, it is important to note that you have to shoot Farosh in the body as shooting elsewhere, like the head, horns, and claws, will yield different drops, specifically the Shard of Farosh’s Fang, Shard of Farosh’s Horn, and Farosh’s Claw.

Shooting Farosh with an arrow is easier said than done. Fortunately, like the other dragons of Hyrule, there will be updrafts surrounding Farosh whenever it’s around, so it would be best to start from a high position. Glide and ride on the updrafts and take advantage of the slow-motion window that happens while aiming Link’s bow and arrow to hit Farosh’s body.

Upon hitting the dragon’s body, the spot where you hit it will glow. Go near it and pick up your Farosh’s Scale. Then, the glowing scale will drop from its body.

The Spring of Courage

Now that you have a Farosh’s Scale, it is time to head to the Spring of Courage to access the Shae Katha Shrine. You can start from Zonai Ruins and continue up the path that leads north until you reach the Spring of Courage right by Dracozu Lake. However, it is worth mentioning that you will encounter a lot of monsters and enemies, so make sure you have enough weapons, shields, and food to restore health to survive.

Upon reaching the Spring of Courage, talk to the Goddess Statue, and she will congratulate you for reaching the spring. She will then tell you to offer the Farosh’s Scale to the Spring of Courage. Press the + button to go to your Inventory, select the Farosh’s Scale, hold it, press B to go back to the game, and, finally, press A to drop it on the spring. After that, a cutscene will play where the Farosh’s Scale will glow, and a door will open behind the Goddess Statue. Behind that door is the Shae Katha Shrine, and the Serpent’s Jaws Shrine Quest will be complete!

Shae Katha’s Blessing

Now that you have completed the Serpent’s Jaws Shrine Quest, you can enter the Shae Katha Shrine. This shrine will no longer have a challenge or puzzle inside as the puzzle was finding out how to access the shrine. Upon entering, this is what Link must do:

  1. When you enter the Shae Katha Shrine, head up the stairs, and open the chest to obtain a Thunderspear.
  2. Then, move forward and talk to the monk to claim your Spirit Orb!

The Shae Katha Shrine or Shae Katha’s Blessing is one of six shrines in the Lake Tower region. The other shrines are the Ka’o Makagh Shrine or the Metal Doors Open the Way, the Ya Naga Shrine or Shatter the Heavens, the Shoqa Tatone Shrine or A Modest Test of Strength, the Ishto Soh shrine or the Bravery’s Grasp, and the Pumaag Nitae Shrine or A Minor Test of Strength.
